Therefore, proteins involved in apoptosis are prime targets in multiple therapies. Bcl-xL is an antiapoptotic protein. Compared to other antiapoptotic proteins, the expression of Bcl-xL is common in solid tumors and, to an extent, in some leukemias and lymphomas. The overexpression of Bcl-xL is also linked to survival and chemoresistance in cancer and senescent cells. Therefore, Bcl-xL is a promising anticancer and senolytic target. Various nanomolar range Bcl-xL inhibitors have been developed. ABT-263 was successfully identified as a Bcl-xL /Bcl-2 dual inhibitor. Here, we report a self-blinking fluorophore that achieved 12 nm spatial resolution and 20 ms time resolution under acidic lysosomal conditions. This fluorophore was successfully applied in super-resolution imaging of lysosomal dynamics over 40 min. The pH dependence of the dye during blinking made the fluorophore sensitive to lysosomal pH. This probe enables simultaneous dynamic and pH recognition of all lysosomes in the entire cell at the single-lysosome-resolved level, which allowed us to resolve whole-cell lysosome subpopulations based on lysosomal distribution, size, and luminal pH. Here, we used an insect model, the Spialia butterflies, to gather genomic evidence of hybridization as a promoter of novel diversity. By using double-digest RADseq (ddRADseq), we explored the phylogenetic relationships between Spialia orbifer, S. rosae and S. sertorius, and documented two independent events of interspecific gene flow. Our data support that the Iberian endemism S. rosae probably received genetic material from S. orbifer in both mitochondrial and nuclear DNA, which could have contributed to a shift in the ecological preferences of S. rosae. We also show that admixture between S. sertorius and S. orbifer probably occurred in Italy. As a result, the admixed Sicilian populations of S. orbifer are differentiated from the rest of populations both genetically and morphologically, and display signatures of reproductive character displacement in the male genitalia. Additionally, our analyses indicated that genetic material from S. orbifer is present in S. sertorius along the Italian Peninsula. Here, we studied LZ with and without auditory stimulation during wakefulness and different sleep stages in five cats implanted with intracranial electrodes, as well as under subanaesthetic doses of ketamine (5, 10, and 15 mg/kg i.m.). In line with previous results, LZ was lowest in NREM sleep, but similar in REM and wakefulness. Furthermore, we found an inverted U-shaped curve following different levels of ketamine doses in a subset of electrodes, primarily in prefrontal cortex. However, it is worth noting that the variability in the ketamine dose-response curve across cats and cortices was larger than that in the sleep-stage data, highlighting the differential local dynamics created by two different ways of modulating conscious state. These results replicate previous findings, both in humans and other species, demonstrating that neural complexity is highly sensitive to capture state changes between wake and sleep stages while adding a local cortical description. We undertook a systematic review and meta-analysis to investigate the association between social isolation, lack of social support and loneliness and cardiovascular disease (CVD) incidence among people living in Australia and New Zealand.

Four electronic databases were systematically searched for longitudinal studies published until June 2020. Two reviewers undertook title/abstract screen and one reviewer undertook full-text screen and data extraction. Quality was assessed using the Newcastle - Ottawa Quality Assessment Scale.

Of the 725 unique records retrieved, five papers met our inclusion criteria. These papers reported data from three Australian longitudinal datasets, with a total of 2137 CHD and 590 stroke events recorded over follow-up periods ranging from 3 to 16years. Reports of two CHD and two stroke outcomes were suitable for meta-analysis. The included papers reported no association between social health and incidence of CVD in all fully adjusted models and most unadjusted models.

Our systematic review is inconclusive as it identified only a few studies, which relied heavily on self-reported CVD. Further studies using medical diagnosis of CVD, and assessing the potential influence of residential remoteness, are needed to better understand the relationship between social health and CVD incidence in Australia and New Zealand.

The objective of this study was to develop prediction models and explore the external validity of the models in a large sample of patients with chronic widespread pain (CWP) and fibromyalgia (FM).

Patients with CWP and FM referred to rehabilitation services in Norway (n=986) self-reported data on potential predictors prior to entering rehabilitation, and self-reported outcomes at one-year follow-up. Logistic regression models of improvement, worsening and work status, and a linear regression model of health-related quality of life (HRQoL), were developed using lasso regression. Externally validated estimates of model performance were obtained from the validation set.

The number of participants in the development and the validation sets was 771 and 215 respectively; only participants with outcome data (n=519-532 and 185, respectively) were included in the analyses. On average, HRQoL and work status changed little over one year. The prediction models included 10-11 predictors. Discrimination (AUC statistiediction models were nearly as accurate and may have more potential for use in clinical practice.

Endometriosis is a chronic inflammatory disease associated with the growth and proliferation of endometrial-like tissues outside the uterus. Although the exact etiology and mechanism of the pathogenesis of the disease have not been fully elucidated, the immune system cells and the mediators produced by them can be named as effective factors in the onset and progression of the disease.

Abundant production of inflammatory mediators by neutrophils and macrophages and reduced cytotoxicity of defined cells promote endometriosis at the early stages of the disease. Following an increase in the inflammation of the environment, the body takes compensatory mechanisms to reduce inflammation and establish homeostasis. For this purpose, the body produces remodeling and anti-inflammatory factors leading to slow conversion of the inflammatory environment into a non-inflammatory environment with proliferative and immunosuppressive properties. Environmental conditions induce M2 macrophages, TH2 cells, and Tregs differentiation, promoting disease progression by producing angiogenic and immunosuppressive factors. However, the exact molecular mechanism involved in changing inflammatory to non-inflammatory conditions is not yet fully understood.

At the landscape level, the greatest biomass discrepancies resulted from height measurements (41%) and, unexpectedly, a few large missing trees contributing to a third of the overall discrepancies. We show that 85% of the biomass discrepancies at the tree level were caused by measurement taken on large trees (DBH ≥50 cm), even though they consisted of only 14% of the stems. We demonstrate that programmes that engage local people can provide high-quality forest carbon data that could help overcome barriers to reducing forest carbon emissions in developing countries. The DFT calculations further indicate that the reaction involves a [3 + 2] cycloaddition between 2 and alkene, and the regioselectivity in the aminohydroxylation of unsymmetrical alkenes is determined by the orientation that bears less steric hindrance from the tosylamino group, which leads to the energetically more preferred product isomer.In the Americas, women with Indigenous American ancestry are at increased risk of intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy (ICP), relative to women of other ethnicities. We hypothesized that ancestry-related genetic factors contribute to this increased risk. We collected clinical and laboratory data, and performed biochemical assays on samples from U.S. Latinas and Chilean women, with and without ICP. The study sample included 198 women with ICP (90 from California, U.S., and 108 from Chile) and 174 pregnant control women (69 from California, U.S., and 105 from Chile). SNP genotyping was performed using Affymetrix arrays. We compared overall genetic ancestry between cases and controls, and used a genome-wide admixture mapping approach to screen for ICP susceptibility loci. We identified commonalities and differences in features of ICP between the 2 countries and determined that cases had a greater proportion of Indigenous American ancestry than did controls (p = 0.034). We performed admixture mapping, taking country of origin into account, and identified one locus for which Native American ancestry was associated with increased risk of ICP at a genome-wide level of significance (P = 3.1 x 10(-5), Pcorrected = 0.035). This locus has an odds ratio of 4.48 (95% CI 2.21-9.06) for 2 versus zero Indigenous American chromosomes. This locus lies on chromosome 2, with a 10 Mb 95% confidence interval which does not contain any previously identified hereditary 'cholestasis genes.' Effects of trend, volumes, and speed limit changes are controlled for as well. On road sections between 100m upstream and 1km downstream of the speed cameras a statistically significant reduction of the number of injury crashes by 22% was found. For killed and severely injured (KSI) and on longer road sections none of the results are statistically significant. However, speed cameras that were installed in 2004 or later were found to reduce injury crashes and the number of KSI on road sections from 100m upstream to both 1km and 3km downstream of the speed cameras. Larger effects were found for KSI than for injury crashes and the effects decrease with increasing distance from the speed cameras. The morphological and crystallographical characteristics of Ag thin films with different Ge nucleation layer thicknesses were assessed by cross-sectional transmission electron microscopy (XTEM), reflection high-energy electron diffraction (RHEED), X-ray diffractometry (XRD), grazing incidence X-ray diffractometry (GIXRD), X-ray reflection (XRR), and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). The surface roughness of Ag thin films was found to decrease significantly by inserting a Ge nucleation layer with a thickness in the range of 1 to 2 nm (i.e., smoothing mode). However, as the Ge nucleation layer thickness increased beyond 2 nm, the surface roughness increased concomitantly (i.e., roughing mode). For the smoothing mode, the role of the Ge nucleation layer in the Ag film deposition is discussed by invoking the surface energy of Ge, the bond dissociation energy of Ag-Ge, and the deposition mechanisms of Ag thin films on a given characteristic Ge nucleation layer. Additionally, Ge island formation, the precipitation of Ge from Ag-Ge alloys, and the penetration of Ge into SiO2 are suggested for the roughing mode. This demonstration of ultrasmooth Ag thin films would offer an advantageous material platform with scalability for applications such as optics, plasmonics, and photonics.
To study the effect of a universal prevention intervention targeting cannabis use in individual children with different risk profiles.

A school-based randomized controlled prevention trial was conducted over a period of 33 months (n=1874 sixth-graders, baseline mean age 11.82). We used a two-level random intercept logistic model for panel data to predict the probabilities of cannabis use for each child. Specifically, we used eight risk/protective factors to characterize each child and then predicted two probabilities of cannabis use for each child if the child had the intervention or not. Using the two probabilities, we calculated the absolute and relative effect of the intervention for each child. According to the two probabilities, we also divided the sample into a low-risk group (the quarter of the children with the lowest probabilities), a moderate-risk group, and a high-risk group (the quarter of the children with the highest probabilities) and showed the average effect of the intervention on these gfactors. The predicted absolute effect and relative effect of any intervention for any selected risk/protective profile of a given child may be utilized in both prevention practice and research.Previous theory indicates that zygotic linkage disequilibrium (LD) is more informative than gametic or composite digenic LD in revealing natural population history. Here, we report that treatment with Galectin-8 (Gal-8), a tandem-repeat member of the galectin family, reduces retinal pathology and prevents photoreceptor cell damage in a murine model of experimental autoimmune uveitis. Gal-8 treatment increased the number of regulatory T cells (Treg) in both the draining lymph node (dLN) and the inflamed retina. Moreover, a greater percentage of Treg cells in the dLN and retina of Gal-8 treated animals expressed the inhibitory coreceptor cytotoxic T lymphocyte antigen (CTLA)-4, the immunosuppressive cytokine IL-10, and the tissue-homing integrin CD103. Treg cells in the retina of Gal-8-treated mice were primarily inducible Treg cells that lack the expression of neuropilin-1. In addition, Gal-8 treatment blunted production of inflammatory cytokines by retinal T helper type (TH) 1 and TH17 cells. The effect of Gal-8 on T cell differentiation and/or function was specific for tissues undergoing an active immune response, as Gal-8 treatment had no effect on T cell populations in the spleen. The main clinical features are abdominal pain and elevated trypsin levels in the blood. Common causes of acute pancreatitis include cholelithiasis, alcohol consumption and hyperlipidaemia, among which drugs are considered to be one of the rare causes of pancreatitis. The patient in this case was a 16-year-old adolescent female who developed acute severe pancreatitis during the treatment of cryptococcal meningitis with voriconazole for 35 days. Following diagnosis that pancreatitis was induced by voriconazole, the drug was immediately stopped and the patient was discharged after symptomatic treatment. The phenomenon of voriconazole-induced pancreatitis is extremely rare, but we hope that this report can arouse greater attention and vigilance of the majority of medical personnel to improve the safety of patients' medication, especially for children or minors.

To evaluate and compare fractional radiofrequency microneedling alone and in combination with autologous platelet-rich plasma (PRP) in neck rejuvenation.

20 patients with mild to moderate neck laxity were randomized to receive 3sessions of either fractional radiofrequency microneedling +PRP (group A) or fractional radiofrequency microneedling monotherapy (group B). Evaluation was done using optical coherence tomography to detect dermis thickness, measurement of cervicomental angle, a score done by two investigators blinded to used modality (GAIS) and patient satisfaction score.

Both Groups showed a statistically significant improvement in all parameters. Comparing the two groups, the mean dermal thickness after treatment was higher in group A compared with B but was found statistically insignificant. More favorable results were reported in group A according to GAIS. Other parameters showed comparable results.

Hand eczema is one of the common occupational dermatoses, having high prevalence among healthcare professionals (HCP). We found no epidemiological data in the literature concerning the prevalence of hand eczema among HCP in Turkey.

The aim of the present study was to investigate the prevalence of hand eczema among HCP in Turkey and to determine the demographic characteristics and risk factors that cause eczema.

The survey response rate was 81.8%. The point prevalence of eczema was 27.6%, and the 12-month prevalence was 45.9%. Most vulvar squamous cell carcinomas are HPV-associated or TP53-mutant. A third category of HPV-independent, TP53-wild-type lesions is uncommon and not fully understood. Differentiated Exophytic Vulvar Intraepithelial Lesion (DEVIL) has been characterized as a precursor in this latter category. The reproducibility of DEVIL and its distinction from lesions with overlapping morphology has not been studied.

A set of 35 slides was evaluated by 8 reviewers (2 trainees, 6 practicing gynaecologic pathologists). The set included DEVIL as well as condyloma, established vulvar precursors (high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion (HSIL) and differentiated vulvar intraepithelial neoplasia (dVIN)) with superimposed acanthosis or verruciform growth, lichen simplex chronicus (LSC) and psoriasis. Kappa (κ) values were calculated. Overall, interobserver agreement was moderate (κ=0.56), improving to substantial (κ=0.7) when evaluated among practicing pathologists. Diagnosis of HSIL reached strong agreement (κ=0.88), wherhallenging diagnoses such as DEVIL, dVIN and psoriasis. Agreement is higher among practicing gynecologic pathologists, suggesting that training and experience improves reproducibility. Our findings support including DEVIL as a diagnostic entity in the classification of vulvar squamous lesions.
Child maltreatment is not unusual in our society but little is known about the medical management of cases in the Nordic countries. This study investigated physician knowledge and practice in cases of suspected physical and sexual abuse and neglect.

Using a patient vignette questionnaire, we assessed paediatrician knowledge and clinical decision-making on paediatric wards at 17hospitals in Norway. Experts and non-experts in child maltreatment responded to the survey which described six potential cases of physical and sexual abuse and neglect.

A total of 156 paediatricians, 67% of whom were female and with a mean age of 40, responded. There was a high level of unanimity in recognition of abuse, but wide variation and little consensus in clinical decision-making and adherence to national guidelines, with Fleiss kappa ranging from -0.002 to 0.468. In cases involving physical abuse concerns in infants and toddlers, less than half of all paediatricians reported they would order a full radiologic skeletal survey and head MRI/CT imaging, and less than 30% would plan follow-up consultations.

Therefore, proteins involved in apoptosis are prime targets in multiple therapies. Bcl-xL is an antiapoptotic protein. Compared to other antiapoptotic proteins, the expression of Bcl-xL is common in solid tumors and, to an extent, in some leukemias and lymphomas. The overexpression of Bcl-xL is also linked to survival and chemoresistance in cancer and senescent cells. Therefore, Bcl-xL is a promising anticancer and senolytic target. Various nanomolar range Bcl-xL inhibitors have been developed. ABT-263 was successfully identified as a Bcl-xL /Bcl-2 dual inhibitor. But it failed in the clinical trial (phase-II) because of its on-target platelet toxicity, which also implies an essential role of Bcl-xL protein in the survival of human platelets. This fluorophore was successfully applied in super-resolution imaging of lysosomal dynamics over 40 min. The pH dependence of the dye during blinking made the fluorophore sensitive to lysosomal pH. By using double-digest RADseq (ddRADseq), we explored the phylogenetic relationships between Spialia orbifer, S. rosae and S. sertorius, and documented two independent events of interspecific gene flow. Our data support that the Iberian endemism S. rosae probably received genetic material from S. orbifer in both mitochondrial and nuclear DNA, which could have contributed to a shift in the ecological preferences of S. rosae. We also show that admixture between S. sertorius and S. orbifer probably occurred in Italy. As a result, the admixed Sicilian populations of S. orbifer are differentiated from the rest of populations both genetically and morphologically, and display signatures of reproductive character displacement in the male genitalia. Additionally, our analyses indicated that genetic material from S. orbifer is present in S. sertorius along the Italian Peninsula. In line with previous results, LZ was lowest in NREM sleep, but similar in REM and wakefulness. Furthermore, we found an inverted U-shaped curve following different levels of ketamine doses in a subset of electrodes, primarily in prefrontal cortex. However, it is worth noting that the variability in the ketamine dose-response curve across cats and cortices was larger than that in the sleep-stage data, highlighting the differential local dynamics created by two different ways of modulating conscious state. These results replicate previous findings, both in humans and other species, demonstrating that neural complexity is highly sensitive to capture state changes between wake and sleep stages while adding a local cortical description. We undertook a systematic review and meta-analysis to investigate the association between social isolation, lack of social support and loneliness and cardiovascular disease (CVD) incidence among people living in Australia and New Zealand.

Four electronic databases were systematically searched for longitudinal studies published until June 2020. Two reviewers undertook title/abstract screen and one reviewer undertook full-text screen and data extraction. Quality was assessed using the Newcastle - Ottawa Quality Assessment Scale.

Of the 725 unique records retrieved, five papers met our inclusion criteria. These papers reported data from three Australian longitudinal datasets, with a total of 2137 CHD and 590 stroke events recorded over follow-up periods ranging from 3 to 16years. Reports of two CHD and two stroke outcomes were suitable for meta-analysis. The included papers reported no association between social health and incidence of CVD in all fully adjusted models and most unadjusted models.

Our systematic review is inconclusive as it identified only a few studies, which relied heavily on self-reported CVD. Further studies using medical diagnosis of CVD, and assessing the potential influence of residential remoteness, are needed to better understand the relationship between social health and CVD incidence in Australia and New Zealand.

The objective of this study was to develop prediction models and explore the external validity of the models in a large sample of patients with chronic widespread pain (CWP) and fibromyalgia (FM).

Patients with CWP and FM referred to rehabilitation services in Norway (n=986) self-reported data on potential predictors prior to entering rehabilitation, and self-reported outcomes at one-year follow-up. Logistic regression models of improvement, worsening and work status, and a linear regression model of health-related quality of life (HRQoL), were developed using lasso regression. Externally validated estimates of model performance were obtained from the validation set.

The number of participants in the development and the validation sets was 771 and 215 respectively; only participants with outcome data (n=519-532 and 185, respectively) were included in the analyses. On average, HRQoL and work status changed little over one year. The prediction models included 10-11 predictors. Discrimination (AUC statistiediction models were nearly as accurate and may have more potential for use in clinical practice.

Endometriosis is a chronic inflammatory disease associated with the growth and proliferation of endometrial-like tissues outside the uterus. Although the exact etiology and mechanism of the pathogenesis of the disease have not been fully elucidated, the immune system cells and the mediators produced by them can be named as effective factors in the onset and progression of the disease.

We aim to attempt to review studies on the role of the immune system in endometriosis to better understand the pathogenesis of endometriosis.

Abundant production of inflammatory mediators by neutrophils and macrophages and reduced cytotoxicity of defined cells promote endometriosis at the early stages of the disease. Following an increase in the inflammation of the environment, the body takes compensatory mechanisms to reduce inflammation and establish homeostasis. For this purpose, the body produces remodeling and anti-inflammatory factors leading to slow conversion of the inflammatory environment into a non-inflammatory environment with proliferative and immunosuppressive properties. Environmental conditions induce M2 macrophages, TH2 cells, and Tregs differentiation, promoting disease progression by producing angiogenic and immunosuppressive factors. However, the exact molecular mechanism involved in changing inflammatory to non-inflammatory conditions is not yet fully understood.

At the landscape level, the greatest biomass discrepancies resulted from height measurements (41%) and, unexpectedly, a few large missing trees contributing to a third of the overall discrepancies. We show that 85% of the biomass discrepancies at the tree level were caused by measurement taken on large trees (DBH ≥50 cm), even though they consisted of only 14% of the stems. We demonstrate that programmes that engage local people can provide high-quality forest carbon data that could help overcome barriers to reducing forest carbon emissions in developing countries. The DFT calculations further indicate that the reaction involves a [3 + 2] cycloaddition between 2 and alkene, and the regioselectivity in the aminohydroxylation of unsymmetrical alkenes is determined by the orientation that bears less steric hindrance from the tosylamino group, which leads to the energetically more preferred product isomer.In the Americas, women with Indigenous American ancestry are at increased risk of intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy (ICP), relative to women of other ethnicities. We hypothesized that ancestry-related genetic factors contribute to this increased risk. We collected clinical and laboratory data, and performed biochemical assays on samples from U.S. Latinas and Chilean women, with and without ICP. The study sample included 198 women with ICP (90 from California, U.S., and 108 from Chile) and 174 pregnant control women (69 from California, U.S., and 105 from Chile). SNP genotyping was performed using Affymetrix arrays. We compared overall genetic ancestry between cases and controls, and used a genome-wide admixture mapping approach to screen for ICP susceptibility loci. We identified commonalities and differences in features of ICP between the 2 countries and determined that cases had a greater proportion of Indigenous American ancestry than did controls (p = 0.034). We performed admixture mapping, taking country of origin into account, and identified one locus for which Native American ancestry was associated with increased risk of ICP at a genome-wide level of significance (P = 3.1 x 10(-5), Pcorrected = 0.035). This locus has an odds ratio of 4.48 (95% CI 2.21-9.06) for 2 versus zero Indigenous American chromosomes. This locus lies on chromosome 2, with a 10 Mb 95% confidence interval which does not contain any previously identified hereditary 'cholestasis genes.' Our results indicate that genetic factors contribute to the risk of developing ICP in the Americas, and support the utility of clinical and genetic studies of ethnically mixed populations for increasing our understanding of ICP.The safety effects of 223 fixed speed cameras that were installed between 2000 and 2010 in Norway were investigated in a before-after empirical Bayes study with control for regression to the mean (RTM). Effects of trend, volumes, and speed limit changes are controlled for as well. On road sections between 100m upstream and 1km downstream of the speed cameras a statistically significant reduction of the number of injury crashes by 22% was found. For killed and severely injured (KSI) and on longer road sections none of the results are statistically significant. However, speed cameras that were installed in 2004 or later were found to reduce injury crashes and the number of KSI on road sections from 100m upstream to both 1km and 3km downstream of the speed cameras. Larger effects were found for KSI than for injury crashes and the effects decrease with increasing distance from the speed cameras. The morphological and crystallographical characteristics of Ag thin films with different Ge nucleation layer thicknesses were assessed by cross-sectional transmission electron microscopy (XTEM), reflection high-energy electron diffraction (RHEED), X-ray diffractometry (XRD), grazing incidence X-ray diffractometry (GIXRD), X-ray reflection (XRR), and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). The surface roughness of Ag thin films was found to decrease significantly by inserting a Ge nucleation layer with a thickness in the range of 1 to 2 nm (i.e., smoothing mode). However, as the Ge nucleation layer thickness increased beyond 2 nm, the surface roughness increased concomitantly (i.e., roughing mode). For the smoothing mode, the role of the Ge nucleation layer in the Ag film deposition is discussed by invoking the surface energy of Ge, the bond dissociation energy of Ag-Ge, and the deposition mechanisms of Ag thin films on a given characteristic Ge nucleation layer. Additionally, Ge island formation, the precipitation of Ge from Ag-Ge alloys, and the penetration of Ge into SiO2 are suggested for the roughing mode. This demonstration of ultrasmooth Ag thin films would offer an advantageous material platform with scalability for applications such as optics, plasmonics, and photonics.
To study the effect of a universal prevention intervention targeting cannabis use in individual children with different risk profiles.

A school-based randomized controlled prevention trial was conducted over a period of 33 months (n=1874 sixth-graders, baseline mean age 11.82). We used a two-level random intercept logistic model for panel data to predict the probabilities of cannabis use for each child. Specifically, we used eight risk/protective factors to characterize each child and then predicted two probabilities of cannabis use for each child if the child had the intervention or not. Using the two probabilities, we calculated the absolute and relative effect of the intervention for each child. According to the two probabilities, we also divided the sample into a low-risk group (the quarter of the children with the lowest probabilities), a moderate-risk group, and a high-risk group (the quarter of the children with the highest probabilities) and showed the average effect of the intervention on these gfactors. The predicted absolute effect and relative effect of any intervention for any selected risk/protective profile of a given child may be utilized in both prevention practice and research.Previous theory indicates that zygotic linkage disequilibrium (LD) is more informative than gametic or composite digenic LD in revealing natural population history. Here, we report that treatment with Galectin-8 (Gal-8), a tandem-repeat member of the galectin family, reduces retinal pathology and prevents photoreceptor cell damage in a murine model of experimental autoimmune uveitis. Gal-8 treatment increased the number of regulatory T cells (Treg) in both the draining lymph node (dLN) and the inflamed retina. Moreover, a greater percentage of Treg cells in the dLN and retina of Gal-8 treated animals expressed the inhibitory coreceptor cytotoxic T lymphocyte antigen (CTLA)-4, the immunosuppressive cytokine IL-10, and the tissue-homing integrin CD103. Treg cells in the retina of Gal-8-treated mice were primarily inducible Treg cells that lack the expression of neuropilin-1. In addition, Gal-8 treatment blunted production of inflammatory cytokines by retinal T helper type (TH) 1 and TH17 cells. The main clinical features are abdominal pain and elevated trypsin levels in the blood. Common causes of acute pancreatitis include cholelithiasis, alcohol consumption and hyperlipidaemia, among which drugs are considered to be one of the rare causes of pancreatitis. The patient in this case was a 16-year-old adolescent female who developed acute severe pancreatitis during the treatment of cryptococcal meningitis with voriconazole for 35 days. Following diagnosis that pancreatitis was induced by voriconazole, the drug was immediately stopped and the patient was discharged after symptomatic treatment. The phenomenon of voriconazole-induced pancreatitis is extremely rare, but we hope that this report can arouse greater attention and vigilance of the majority of medical personnel to improve the safety of patients' medication, especially for children or minors.

To evaluate and compare fractional radiofrequency microneedling alone and in combination with autologous platelet-rich plasma (PRP) in neck rejuvenation.

20 patients with mild to moderate neck laxity were randomized to receive 3sessions of either fractional radiofrequency microneedling +PRP (group A) or fractional radiofrequency microneedling monotherapy (group B). Evaluation was done using optical coherence tomography to detect dermis thickness, measurement of cervicomental angle, a score done by two investigators blinded to used modality (GAIS) and patient satisfaction score.

Both Groups showed a statistically significant improvement in all parameters. Comparing the two groups, the mean dermal thickness after treatment was higher in group A compared with B but was found statistically insignificant. More favorable results were reported in group A according to GAIS. Other parameters showed comparable results.

Hand eczema is one of the common occupational dermatoses, having high prevalence among healthcare professionals (HCP). We found no epidemiological data in the literature concerning the prevalence of hand eczema among HCP in Turkey.

The aim of the present study was to investigate the prevalence of hand eczema among HCP in Turkey and to determine the demographic characteristics and risk factors that cause eczema.

The survey response rate was 81.8%. The point prevalence of eczema was 27.6%, and the 12-month prevalence was 45.9%. Powdered glove react hands with alcohol-based lotions and applying a powder-free policy in all healthcare centers will reduce the prevalence of hand eczema among HCP.
Most vulvar squamous cell carcinomas are HPV-associated or TP53-mutant. A third category of HPV-independent, TP53-wild-type lesions is uncommon and not fully understood. Differentiated Exophytic Vulvar Intraepithelial Lesion (DEVIL) has been characterized as a precursor in this latter category. The reproducibility of DEVIL and its distinction from lesions with overlapping morphology has not been studied.

A set of 35 slides was evaluated by 8 reviewers (2 trainees, 6 practicing gynaecologic pathologists). The set included DEVIL as well as condyloma, established vulvar precursors (high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion (HSIL) and differentiated vulvar intraepithelial neoplasia (dVIN)) with superimposed acanthosis or verruciform growth, lichen simplex chronicus (LSC) and psoriasis. Kappa (κ) values were calculated. Overall, interobserver agreement was moderate (κ=0.56), improving to substantial (κ=0.7) when evaluated among practicing pathologists. Diagnosis of HSIL reached strong agreement (κ=0.88), wherhallenging diagnoses such as DEVIL, dVIN and psoriasis. Agreement is higher among practicing gynecologic pathologists, suggesting that training and experience improves reproducibility. Our findings support including DEVIL as a diagnostic entity in the classification of vulvar squamous lesions.
