The antioxidant effects of red pitaya extract (PE) were evaluated in pork patties for 18 days at 2 °C. The following treatments were prepared control (CON, without antioxidant), sodium erythorbate (ERY, 500 mg kg-1), PE low dose (PEL, 250 mg kg-1), PE medium dose (PEM, 500 mg kg-1), and PE high dose (PEH, 1000 mg kg-1). No significant effect was observed on chemical composition and cooking loss with the addition of PE, while a significant effect was noticed in cohesiveness (P less then 0.05). The intense pink colour of PE enhanced the colour stability during storage (9.33, 7.92 and 7.69 vs. 6.77 for PEH, PEM and PEL vs. CON, respectively; (P less then 0.05). TBARS (1.21 vs. 2.44 mg MDA/kg) and carbonyl values (5.45 vs. 6.87 nmol carbonyl/mg) of treated samples were lower than those observed in CON. Similar values were found between samples with PE and ERY. PE improved colour acceptance and the preference of pork patties. Therefore, PE is a very effective natural antioxidant by delaying colour and oxidative deterioration.Pathogenic contamination has been considered as a significant worldwide water quality concern. Due to providing promising opportunities for the production of nanocomposite membranes with tailored porosity, adjustable pore size, and scaled-up ability of biomolecules incorporation, electrospinning has become the center of attention. This review intends to provide a detailed summary of the recent advances in the fabrication of antibacterial and antiviral electrospun nanofibers and discuss their application efficiency as a water filtration membrane. The current review attempts to give a functionalist perspective of the fundamental progress in construction strategies of antibacterial and antiviral electrospun nanofibers. The review provides a list of antibacterial and antiviral agents commonly used as water membrane filters and discusses the challenges in the incorporation process. We have thoroughly studied the recent application of functionalized electrospun nanofibers in the water disinfection process, with an emphasis on their efficiency. Moreover, different antibacterial and antiviral assay techniques for membranes are discussed, the gaps and limitations are highlighted and promising strategies to overcome barriers are studies.Beyond the contact and respiratory transmission of the COVID-19 virus, it has recently been reported in the literature that humidity, temperature, and air pollution may be effective in spreading the virus. However, taking the measurements regionally suspects the accuracy or validity of the data. In this research, climate values (temperature, humidity, number of sunny days, wind intensity) of 81 provinces in Turkey were collected in March 2020. Also, the population, population density of the provinces, and average air pollution data were taken. The findings of the study showed that population density and wind were effective in spreading the virus and both factors explained for 94% of the variance in virus spreading. Air temperature, humidity, the number of sunny days, and air pollution did not affect the number of cases. Besides, population density mediated the effect of wind speed (9%) on the number of COVID-19 cases. The finding that COVID-19 virus, invisible in the air, spreads more in windy weather indicates that the virus in the air is one threatening factor for humans with the wind speed that increases air circulation.Rapeseed (Brassica napus L.) is extremely sensitive to both boron (B) and phosphorus (P) deficiencies. Application of chemical fertilizers is generally considered to be an effective agronomic practice to improve crop productivity, and it also affects soil bacterial community. However, there are few studies of the effects of balanced B and P fertilizer applications on crop yield and bacterial communities. In the present study, field experiments with five P application rates (0, 45, 90, 135 and 180 kg P2O5 ha-1) and four B application rates (0, 4.5, 9 and 18 kg Na2B4O7·5H2O ha-1) were conducted in 2016-2017 and 2017-2018 to investigate their effects on seed yield and P use efficiency (PUE) of B. napus. The smallest seed yields were obtained when B or P fertilizers were not applied (P90B0 or P0B9). Balanced B and P applications benefitted yields. The P45B4.5 treatment produced greater seed yield and PUE than the P45B18 treatment, and the P180B18 treatment produced greater seed yield and PUE than the P180B4.5 treatment. Sequencing of 16S rRNA genes revealed that the P90B9 treatment had greater soil bacterial diversity, and a different bacterial community composition, compared with the P90B0 or P0B9 treatments. Overall, our results underline the importance of balanced B and P nutrition for maximal seed yield of B. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/art0380.html napus and the effects of B and P fertilizers on the soil bacterial community of B. napus.We investigated the efficiency of a benthic diatom-associated bacteria in removing benzo(a)pyrene (BaP) and fluoranthene (Flt). The diatom, isolated from a PAH-contaminated sediment of the Bizerte Lagoon (Tunisia), was exposed in axenic and non-axenic cultures to PAHs over 7 days. The diversity of the associated bacteria, both attached (AB) and free-living bacteria (FB), was analyzed by the 16S rRNA amplicon sequencing. The diatom, which maintained continuous growth under PAH treatments, was able to accumulate BaP and Flt, with different efficiencies between axenic and non-axenic cultures. Biodegradation, which constituted the main process for PAH elimination, was enhanced in the presence of bacteria, indicating the co-metabolic synergy of microalgae and associated bacteria in removing BaP and Flt. Diatom and bacteria showed different capacities in the degradation of BaP and Flt. Nitzschia sp. harbored bacterial communities with a distinct composition between attached and free-living bacteria. The AB fraction exhibited higher diversity and abundance relative to FB, while the FB fraction contained genera with the known ability of PAH degradation, such as Marivita, Erythrobacter, and Alcaligenes. Moreover, strains of Staphylococcus and Micrococcus, isolated from the FB community, showed the capacity to grow in the presence of crude oil. These results suggest that a "benthic Nitzschia sp.-associated hydrocarbon-degrading bacteria" consortium can be applied in the bioremediation of PAH-contaminated sites.

The antioxidant effects of red pitaya extract (PE) were evaluated in pork patties for 18 days at 2 °C. The following treatments were prepared control (CON, without antioxidant), sodium erythorbate (ERY, 500 mg kg-1), PE low dose (PEL, 250 mg kg-1), PE medium dose (PEM, 500 mg kg-1), and PE high dose (PEH, 1000 mg kg-1). No significant effect was observed on chemical composition and cooking loss with the addition of PE, while a significant effect was noticed in cohesiveness (P less then 0.05). The intense pink colour of PE enhanced the colour stability during storage (9.33, 7.92 and 7.69 vs. 6.77 for PEH, PEM and PEL vs. CON, respectively; (P less then 0.05). TBARS (1.21 vs. 2.44 mg MDA/kg) and carbonyl values (5.45 vs. 6.87 nmol carbonyl/mg) of treated samples were lower than those observed in CON. Similar values were found between samples with PE and ERY. PE improved colour acceptance and the preference of pork patties. Therefore, PE is a very effective natural antioxidant by delaying colour and oxidative deterioration.Pathogenic contamination has been considered as a significant worldwide water quality concern. Due to providing promising opportunities for the production of nanocomposite membranes with tailored porosity, adjustable pore size, and scaled-up ability of biomolecules incorporation, electrospinning has become the center of attention. This review intends to provide a detailed summary of the recent advances in the fabrication of antibacterial and antiviral electrospun nanofibers and discuss their application efficiency as a water filtration membrane. The current review attempts to give a functionalist perspective of the fundamental progress in construction strategies of antibacterial and antiviral electrospun nanofibers. The review provides a list of antibacterial and antiviral agents commonly used as water membrane filters and discusses the challenges in the incorporation process. We have thoroughly studied the recent application of functionalized electrospun nanofibers in the water disinfection process, with an emphasis on their efficiency. Moreover, different antibacterial and antiviral assay techniques for membranes are discussed, the gaps and limitations are highlighted and promising strategies to overcome barriers are studies.Beyond the contact and respiratory transmission of the COVID-19 virus, it has recently been reported in the literature that humidity, temperature, and air pollution may be effective in spreading the virus. However, taking the measurements regionally suspects the accuracy or validity of the data. In this research, climate values (temperature, humidity, number of sunny days, wind intensity) of 81 provinces in Turkey were collected in March 2020. Also, the population, population density of the provinces, and average air pollution data were taken. The findings of the study showed that population density and wind were effective in spreading the virus and both factors explained for 94% of the variance in virus spreading. Air temperature, humidity, the number of sunny days, and air pollution did not affect the number of cases. Besides, population density mediated the effect of wind speed (9%) on the number of COVID-19 cases. The finding that COVID-19 virus, invisible in the air, spreads more in windy weather indicates that the virus in the air is one threatening factor for humans with the wind speed that increases air circulation.Rapeseed (Brassica napus L.) is extremely sensitive to both boron (B) and phosphorus (P) deficiencies. Application of chemical fertilizers is generally considered to be an effective agronomic practice to improve crop productivity, and it also affects soil bacterial community. However, there are few studies of the effects of balanced B and P fertilizer applications on crop yield and bacterial communities. In the present study, field experiments with five P application rates (0, 45, 90, 135 and 180 kg P2O5 ha-1) and four B application rates (0, 4.5, 9 and 18 kg Na2B4O7·5H2O ha-1) were conducted in 2016-2017 and 2017-2018 to investigate their effects on seed yield and P use efficiency (PUE) of B. napus. The smallest seed yields were obtained when B or P fertilizers were not applied (P90B0 or P0B9). Balanced B and P applications benefitted yields. The P45B4.5 treatment produced greater seed yield and PUE than the P45B18 treatment, and the P180B18 treatment produced greater seed yield and PUE than the P180B4.5 treatment. Sequencing of 16S rRNA genes revealed that the P90B9 treatment had greater soil bacterial diversity, and a different bacterial community composition, compared with the P90B0 or P0B9 treatments. The diatom, isolated from a PAH-contaminated sediment of the Bizerte Lagoon (Tunisia), was exposed in axenic and non-axenic cultures to PAHs over 7 days. The diversity of the associated bacteria, both attached (AB) and free-living bacteria (FB), was analyzed by the 16S rRNA amplicon sequencing. The diatom, which maintained continuous growth under PAH treatments, was able to accumulate BaP and Flt, with different efficiencies between axenic and non-axenic cultures. Biodegradation, which constituted the main process for PAH elimination, was enhanced in the presence of bacteria, indicating the co-metabolic synergy of microalgae and associated bacteria in removing BaP and Flt. Diatom and bacteria showed different capacities in the degradation of BaP and Flt. Nitzschia sp. harbored bacterial communities with a distinct composition between attached and free-living bacteria. The AB fraction exhibited higher diversity and abundance relative to FB, while the FB fraction contained genera with the known ability of PAH degradation, such as Marivita, Erythrobacter, and Alcaligenes. Moreover, strains of Staphylococcus and Micrococcus, isolated from the FB community, showed the capacity to grow in the presence of crude oil. These results suggest that a "benthic Nitzschia sp.-associated hydrocarbon-degrading bacteria" consortium can be applied in the bioremediation of PAH-contaminated sites.

The quinazoline derivative lapatinib (LAP) is used since 2007 as dual TKI in the treatment of metastatic breast cancer and currently, it is used as an oral anticancer drug for the treatment of solid tumors such as breast and lung cancer. Although hepatotoxicity is its main side effect, it makes sense to investigate the ability of LAP to induce photosensitivity reactions bearing in mind that BRAF (serine/threonine-protein kinase B-Raf) inhibitors display a considerable phototoxic potential and that afloqualone, a quinazoline-marketed drug, causes photodermatosis. Metabolic bioactivation of LAP by CYP3A4 and CYP3A5 leads to chemically reactive N-dealkylated (N-LAP) and O-dealkylated (O-LAP) derivatives. In this context, the aim of the present work is to explore whether LAP and its N- and O-dealkylated metabolites can induce photosensitivity disorders by evaluating their photo(geno)toxicity through in vitro studies, including cell viability as well as photosensitized protein and DNA damage. As a matter of fact, our work has demonstrated that not only LAP, but also its metabolite N-LAP have a clear photosensitizing potential. They are both phototoxic and photogenotoxic to cells, as revealed by the 3T3 NRU assay and the comet assay, respectively. By contrast, the O-LAP does not display relevant photobiological properties. Remarkably, the parent drug LAP shows the highest activity in membrane phototoxicity and protein oxidation, whereas N-LAP is associated with the highest photogenotoxicity, through oxidation of purine bases, as revealed by detection of 8-Oxo-dG.Quantum chemical theoretical computation was performed on gaseous molecular reaction systems to simulate parallel synthesis of energetic primary explosive precursor 4,6-dinitrobenzofuroxan (4,6-DNBF) and its isomeric derivatives. The extent of such removal has not been widely quantified. The amount quantity of soil and organic matter lost with sod harvest and the associated cost of nutrients lost from six sod farms in the Marmara region of Turkey were determined. Soil loss ranged from 166 to 243 Mg ha-1 year-1, while the associated organic matter loss ranged from 1 to 6 Mg ha-1 year-1. The amount of soil loss increased with increases in gravimetric water, clay, and silt contents, and duration under sod harvest, while it decreased with an increase in sand content. Annual nutrient lost ranged from 117 to 449 kg ha-1 for N, from 2 to 18 kg ha-1 for P2O5, and from 21 to 175 kg ha-1 for K2O. Replacing the nutrient lost would cost about $134 ha-1 year-1 for sandy soils and $444 ha-1 year-1 for fine-textured soils. Soil lost with sod harvest was 134 times higher than that from agricultural lands by erosion in the region, although the area under sod production is much smaller than that under croplands. Similarly, organic matter loss was 4 to 5 times higher than the accumulation rate under established turfgrass in golf courses and lawns in locations with similar climate. Overall, sod harvesting results in significant and costly soil, organic matter, and nutrient loss, which, although small in area, can be an important component of total soil erosion.Inconsistency of the results regarding the genetic variability within genes coding for receptor activator of nuclear factor κB (RANK) and its ligand (RANKL) in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) prompted us to study the RANK and RANKL polymorphisms as potential biomarkers associated with disease predisposition and response to anti-TNF treatment in a group of Polish patients with RA. This study enrolled 318 RA patients and 163 controls. RANK (rs8086340, C > G; rs1805034, C > T) and RANKL (rs7325635, G > A; rs7988338 G > A) alleles were determined by real-time PCR with melting curve analysis and related with clinical parameters. In addition, RANKL serum levels were measured by ELISA. The RANK rs8086340-G allele was overrepresented among patients as compared to controls (OD = 1.777, p = 0.038). C-reactive protein (CRP) levels were significantly (p  less then  0.05) associated with RANK rs8086340 polymorphism and were higher in the CC-homozygotes at the baseline while lower in the GG-carriers at the 12th week of the treatment. At the latter time point RANKL rs7325635-GG-positive patients also showed significantly lower CRP concentrations. Higher alkaline phosphatase levels before induction of anti-TNF therapy were observed in RANK rs8086340 and RANK rs1805034 CC homozygotes (p = 0.057 and p = 0.035, respectively). The GG homozygosity of both RANKL single nucleotide polymorphisms was significantly associated with the number of swollen joints (rs7988338 and rs7325635, before and at the 12th week of therapy, respectively, p  less then  0.05 in both cases). These results imply that polymorphisms within the RANK and RANKL genes affect RA susceptibility and anti-TNF treatment outcome.

Despite the fact that there are already drugs for cancer, they still show strong toxicity to the human organism. That is why it is necessary to establish the factors affecting activity in order to develop new, more effective drugs aimed at tumor cells, minimizing harm to healthy cells. The present research is based on electronic properties calculation of the complexes using AlteQ approach. In the focus of this study are complexes of human dihydrofolate reductase (hDHFR) with a series of known inhibitors bound in the active site. Further, a statistical analysis was performed to establish the relationships between a myriad electronic characteristics and IC50. The change in total volume and the change of own electrons number of hydrogen atoms in their atomic basins are identified as the descriptors correlating the most with the hDHFR inhibition potency. Additionally, two lipophilic parts of protein (Thr56, Ser59, Ile60 and Ile7, Val8, Ala9) were found, which act as a key factor in decreasing bioactivity. The depth analysis of intermolecular interactions showed that the interactions between water molecules and ligand play a crucial role in hDHFR inhibition. Furthermore, the molecular dynamics simulations were used for deeper understanding of the structural inhibition, each for 50 ns time scale in explicit water conditions. Thus, the AlteQ approach made it possible to determine the factors influencing the activity and evaluate them not only qualitatively, but also quantitatively. Communicated by Ramaswamy H. Methods A retrospective chart-review was performed on patients with pain in the HFN presenting to a tertiary pain center in Turkey between January 2016 and January 2017. Women's expectations from healthcare providers regarding PCC are different based on their knowledge, experiences and culture. The purpose of this study was to explore Iranian women's preferences and expectations regarding PCC. In this qualitative content analysis 22 married women with intention to become pregnant were recruited from 22 healthcare centers in Mashhad, Iran, using purposive sampling. Data were collected through semi-structured in-depth interviews from March to October 2014. Interviews were transcribed verbatim and analyzed using a conventional content analysis approach. The main expectation of women regarding PCC was "being supported and receiving continuing care". This overarching theme consisted of five categories including continuity of care, couple-centered care, establishing effective communication, accessibility to preconception services and access to competent professionals. Women highlighted their expectations as the need of support and to receive continuing healthcare. They requested PCC for couples and emphasized the importance of the health professional's competency as well as access to information and services of PCC. Women's experiences manifested several areas within which changes could be applied to improve the quality of preconception care.
Pancreatic acinar cell carcinoma (PACC) is a rare tumor, accounting for about 1% of all pancreatic exocrine cancers. Consensus on the management of metastatic PACC remains unclear.

Starting from April 2019, a patient first received chemotherapy with two cycles of gemcitabine and nab-paclitaxel and two cycles of SOX regimen. After progression of disease evaluated based on RECIST 1.1, toripalimab and SOX regimen was administered because of PD-L1-positive expression, high tumor mutation burden (TMB), and somatic
deletion in the tumor. Both the primary and metastatic tumor mass shrank significantly after two courses. The patient exhibited sustained partial response for at least six courses with well-controlled toxic effects. Then the treatment had to be stopped for 2 months because of the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic. Computed tomography scan in March 2020 showed disease progression. Time from initiating treatment to tumor progression on toripalimab and SOX regimen treatment took up to at least 8 months.

Expanding public expenditure on long-term care servicesHas made policies encouraged informal caregiving. Burden of care describes challenges connected to informal caregiving. Dependent patients report feelings of being a burden. Few studies have focused on both the experience of caregiver burden and recipients' feelings of burden. This study explore the experiences of old patients and informal caregivers in the first 30 days after the patient's discharge. Method Aphenomenological approach was used to explore the subjective experiences of the participants . Semi-structured individual interviews were analysed thematically. Results The reults reflect imbalance regarding care needs relative to time, social roles, physical and emotional states, and formal care resources. Four themes emerged from the interviews 1) Bridging the gap, 2) Family is family, 3) Never enough, and 4) Stress and distress. Conclusions The participants face strains within their roles.
