Even though most people seem to believe it - and the government definitely acts as if it were true, federal law is not “always supreme” - all the time. Arguing in support of that requires ignoring the words of the supremacy clause - and the history of the American Revolution, which was a rejection of this kind of unlimited, centralized power.

Our leaders’ concealment of the truth from the American people exposes their lack of respect for us and their rejection of our Constitution.

Senator Cruz Outraged by Rejection of Mayorkas Impeachment
The Senate voted along strict party lines to table the issue permanently. The 51-49 vote assured that Mayorkas will not face the potential of having his role in the southern border crisis elaborated in a public trial, nor will he have to worry about being disgracefully removed from office.
Senate Democrats claimed that the articles passed by the House did not meet the threshold for “high crimes and misdemeanors” which is the bar for impeachment according to the Constitution. Republicans maintain that failure to secure the country’s borders is one of the most vital functions of government, and Mayorkas as DHS chief is the man most responsible for that duty.
