The list includes libertarian groups like Cato Institute, immigrant advocacy groups like ACLU, Christian and civil rights groups such as American Center for Law & Justice, privacy advocates such as 511 campaign as well as state-level opposition groups like North Carolinians Against Real ID as well as consumer and labor protections groups like AFL-CIO, and gun rights groups.

A Real ID, issued by the government includes your legal name with a unique template biometric to help identify you. It also has a photo and your signature. The process to obtain an Real ID requires an in-person visit to a Secretary of State Driver Services office. The website allows you to find the closest DMV office, and then you can schedule an appointment online. You'll need current, valid driver's ID or license and two documents proving your address. These documents must include your full name including middle and/or surnames. Documents that only show a post box are not acceptable.

Real IDs in New York cost $30 for an application for a license, and $15 for identification cards. The process can take up to four weeks and you will have to bring your original or certified documentation along with the application. The process can take a bit longer than applying for a regular driver' license, because there are additional steps.
