War On Homeschool In Michigan
Tom McMillin, member of the State Board of Education and former Michigan State Representative, spoke up during a recent school board meeting regarding homeschool registration.
"The whole, homeschool thing is really um, quite disturbing. And one of the things that disturbs me about this, is the disingenuousness of the discussion.... she basically said we want this list to have unwarranted home entry. Without a warrant, and worthless home entry, of this particular target group."
The push for the registry comes after two couples in the Lansing area were accused of abusing and profiting from nearly 30 kids they adopted and homeschooled.
Attorney General Dana Nessel claimed the abuse was able to 'go unnoticed' as a result of poor oversight of homeschooling across her state.
McMillan went on to say, "We know that registration leads to confiscation. Registration leads to getting, rounding up. Registration is the first step, and it's not the only step. And I wish the debate were clear that it's going to be a lot further than registration."
