On the morning of October 7th, Israel suffered the deadliest day in its 75 year history when Hamas fighters killed over 1,400 Israelis in a surprise attack on towns bordering the Palestinian territory of Gaza. Israel responded to the attack by launching a massive barrage of airstrikes and artillery on Hamas' positions, killing over 2,800 Palestinians in the process. Israel's political leadership has since formed a unity government in preparation for a ground offensive into the Palestinian territory.
