The severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) outbreak is rising globally. However, clinically effective antiviral treatments are not established. Favipiravir may prevent pneumonia and acute respiratory distress syndrome aggravation. We describe SARS-CoV-2-positive patients, two of whom were in a critical condition and one of whom was in a severe condition, who were administered favipiravir for their deteriorating conditions and cured.
We investigated possible COVID-19 epidemic clusters and their common sources of exposure that led to a sudden increase in the incidence of COVID-19 in the Jewish community of Marseille between March 15 and March 20, 2020.

All data were generated as part of routine work at Marseille university hospitals. Biological diagnoses were made by RT-PCR testing. A telephone survey of families in which a laboratory confirmed case was diagnosed was conducted to determine possible exposure events.

As of March 30, 2020, 63 patients were linked to 6 epidemic clusters. The 6 clusters were linked to religious and social activities a ski trip, organized meals for the Purim Jewish celebration in community and family settings on March 10, a religious service and a charity gala. Notably, 40% of the patients were infected by index patients during the presymptomatic period, which was 2.5 days before symptom onset. When considering household members, all 12 patients who tested negative and who did not develop any relevant clinical symptoms compatible with COVID-19 were 1-16 years of age. The clinical attack rate (symptoms compatible with COVID-19, and biologically confirmed by PCR) in adults was 85% compared to 26% in children.

Antiresorptive agent-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (ARONJ) and infectious osteomyelitis of the jaw (OMJ) in antiresorptive-naïve patients are different disease entities. Although osteoclast inhibition is at the center of the pathogenesis of ARONJ, the role of osteoclast inhibition in infectious OMJ is unknown. The objective of this study was to determine the effect of bisphosphonate osteoclast inhibition in infectious OMJ.

To maintain homeostasis or promote regeneration of the tendon/ligament, it is critical to understand the mechanism responsible for the coordination of tendon/ligament-specific gene expression and subsequent cell differentiation. In this review, we have discussed the core molecular mechanisms involved in the development and homeostasis of tendons and ligaments, with particular focus on transcription factors, signaling, and mechanical stress.Low-intensity pulsed ultrasound (LIPUS) has been used to accelerate bone fracture healing. However, the issue whether LIPUS is effective in preventing osteoporosis has not been clarified, and if so, what possible mechanisms might be responsible. Myostatin (MSTN) is a negative regulator of muscle growth, and its absence will trigger a positive response to bone. In this study, we examined the effects of LIPUS on bone micro-structure, mechanical properties and damage healing of hindlimb-suspended rats, and investigated whether the inhibition of MSTN plays a role in this process. The rats were randomly divided into four groups Normal control group (NC), Hind limb suspension group (HLS), Hind limb suspension and 80 mW/cm2 LIPUS irradiation group (HLS+ 80 mW/cm2), Hind limb suspension and 30 mW/cm2 LIPUS irradiation group (HLS+ 30 mW/cm2). The HLS+ 80 mW/cm2 rats were treated with LIPUS (1 MHz, 80 mW/cm2) and the HLS+ 30 mW/cm2 rats were treated with LIPUS (1 MHz, 30 mW/cm2) on the femur for 20 min/day for 28 days. MC3T3-E1 cells were respectively cultured with the serum of wild type mouse and MSTN knockout mouse at 1% concentration for 7 days. After 28 days, LIPUS effectively prevented the destruction of bone microstructure and the decline of mechanical properties, and promoted bone defect healing in the tail-suspended rats. In addition, LIPUS effectively reduced the MSTN content in the quadriceps and serum of the tail-suspended rats, inhibited its receptor and downstream signaling molecules and activated the Wnt signaling pathway in femurs. Growth of MC-3T3-E1 cell cultured with the serum of MSTN knockout mice was superior to that with wild mice serum on day 7. These results indicate that MSTN is a key mediator in LIPUS preventing bone loss caused by hindlimb-suspension.
Pheochromocytoma (PHEO) and paraganglioma (PGL) (PHEO and PGL PPGLs), catecholamine-producing tumors, represent an emerging cause of secondary osteoporosis. However, despite decreased bone mineral density (BMD), vertebral fracture (VF) is not associated with BMD in PPGLs.

To examine differences in maternal sleep-related cognitions and to explore the associations between those cognitions and reported child sleep quality in a sample of mothers of young children, from two major cultural groups in Israel Arab and Jewish.

Data were pooled from two randomized, placebo-controlled, 7- or 8-week studies of pitolisant (titrated to a potential maximum dose of 35.6mg/day) in adults with narcolepsy. Analyses included three independent patient subgroups Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS) baseline score ≥16, Maintenance of Wakefulness Test (MWT) sleep latency ≤8min, and ≥15 cataplexy attacks per week.

The analysis populations included 118 patients for ESS (pitolisant, n=60; placebo, n=58), 105 for MWT (pitolisant, n=59; placebo, n=46), and 31 for cataplexy (pitolisant, n=20; placebo, n=11). On the ESS, least-squares mean change from baseline was significantly greater for pitolisant (-6.1) compared with placebo (-2.3; P<0.001). Significantly more pitolisant-treated patients were classified as treatment responders ESS score reduction ≥3, 69.0% in the pitolisant group versus 35.1% in the placebo group (P=0.001); final ESS score ≤10, 36.2% versus 10.5%, respectively (P=0.005). On the MWT, mean sleep latency increased from 3.5min to 10.4min with pitolisant and from 3.4min to 6.8min with placebo (P=0.017). Least-squares mean change in the weekly rate of cataplexy was significantly greater for pitolisant (-14.5; baseline, 23.9; final, 9.4) compared with placebo (-0.1; baseline, 23.1; final, 23.0; P=0.004). Evidence evaluating the risk of influenza in patients with OSA is limited. We aimed to investigate the association between OSA and influenza using a nationwide population-based data set.

A total of 5483 individuals with OSA were enrolled from January, 2000, to December, 2012, and compared with a control group of 21,932 individuals who had never been diagnosed with OSA (at a 14 ratio propensity score matched by age, sex, index years, and comorbidities) in the context of subsequent influenza infection. Cox proportional hazard regression analysis was conducted to analyze the association between OSA and influenza incidence. We conducted sensitivity analyses to examine our finding.

During the 1.81 (±2.12) years of the follow-up period, the incidence rate of influenza infection was higher in the OSA group compared with the non-OSA group (36.40 and 30.09 per 100 person-years). After adjusting for age, sex, comorbidities, outpatients visits, the risk of influenza infection among patients with OSA was significantly higher (hazard ratio=1.18; 95% confidence interval=1.14-1.23; P<0.001). Sensitivity analyses showed consistent positive association. Males with OSA had increased risk of influenza infection compared with males without OSA (adjusted HR, 1.21; 95% CI, 1.16-1.27; P value for interaction=0.03).

Immunotherapy is beneficial in dMMR mCRC patients and has recently been approved by the Food and Drug Administration for patients with unresectable or metastatic dMMR CRC. Although dMMR and proficient MMR (pMMR) CRC tumours are biologically distinct, they are commonly treated with the same chemotherapy and monoclonal antibodies. This includes dMMR mCRC patients who did not respond to immunotherapy (20-30%). However, it is unclear if these treatments are equally beneficial in dMMR mCRC. Of note, dMMR mCRC patients have a worse prognosis compared to pMMR, which may in part be caused by a lower response to treatment. To avoid unnecessary exposure to ineffective treatments and their associated toxicity, it is important to identify which systemic treatments are most beneficial in dMMR mCRC patients, thus improving their outcome. Indeed, future treatment strategies are likely to involve combinations of immunotherapy, chemotherapy and monoclonal antibodies.

The effect of the time interval between the end of sperm preparation in the lab, and its injection into the uterine cavity (lab-to-uterus time) is yet to be determined.

Partner and donor spermatozoa intra-uterine insemination cycles were included. Preparation for intra-uterine insemination of partners' fresh ejaculate or donor thawed spermatozoa was identical. The time interval from the completion of this stage to the actual intra-uterine injection was recorded. The lab-to-uterus intervals were divided into groups A (0-29min), B (30-59min), C (60-89min), and D (90-180min). Pregnancy was defined as two adequate consecutive doubling levels of hCG and the pregnancy rates were compared between the groups.

Data were collected during January 2021, when Israel was in lockdown, from a convenience sample of 381 Jewish Israelis (M = 55.39, SD = 17.17). JUNE 19, 2023 — Israeli President Isaac Herzog gave a speech to a joint session of Congress today, commemorating 75 years of Israeli independence.

In his speech, Herzog stressed that "allowing Iran to become a nuclear threshold state is unacceptable."

“I am not oblivious to criticism among friends, including some expressed by respected members of this House,” he also said. “I respect criticism, especially from friends, although one does not always have to accept it. But criticism of Israel must not cross the line into negation of the State of Israel’s right to exist. Questioning the Jewish people’s right to self-determination, is not legitimate diplomacy, it is antisemitism.”

The severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) outbreak is rising globally. However, clinically effective antiviral treatments are not established. Favipiravir may prevent pneumonia and acute respiratory distress syndrome aggravation. We describe SARS-CoV-2-positive patients, two of whom were in a critical condition and one of whom was in a severe condition, who were administered favipiravir for their deteriorating conditions and cured.
We investigated possible COVID-19 epidemic clusters and their common sources of exposure that led to a sudden increase in the incidence of COVID-19 in the Jewish community of Marseille between March 15 and March 20, 2020.

All data were generated as part of routine work at Marseille university hospitals. Biological diagnoses were made by RT-PCR testing. A telephone survey of families in which a laboratory confirmed case was diagnosed was conducted to determine possible exposure events.

As of March 30, 2020, 63 patients were linked to 6 epidemic clusters. The 6 clusters were linked to religious and social activities a ski trip, organized meals for the Purim Jewish celebration in community and family settings on March 10, a religious service and a charity gala. Notably, 40% of the patients were infected by index patients during the presymptomatic period, which was 2.5 days before symptom onset. When considering household members, all 12 patients who tested negative and who did not develop any relevant clinical symptoms compatible with COVID-19 were 1-16 years of age. The clinical attack rate (symptoms compatible with COVID-19, and biologically confirmed by PCR) in adults was 85% compared to 26% in children.

Antiresorptive agent-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (ARONJ) and infectious osteomyelitis of the jaw (OMJ) in antiresorptive-naïve patients are different disease entities. Although osteoclast inhibition is at the center of the pathogenesis of ARONJ, the role of osteoclast inhibition in infectious OMJ is unknown. The objective of this study was to determine the effect of bisphosphonate osteoclast inhibition in infectious OMJ.

However, tendons have poor self-healing ability upon damage due to injuries, diseases, or aging. To maintain homeostasis or promote regeneration of the tendon/ligament, it is critical to understand the mechanism responsible for the coordination of tendon/ligament-specific gene expression and subsequent cell differentiation. In this review, we have discussed the core molecular mechanisms involved in the development and homeostasis of tendons and ligaments, with particular focus on transcription factors, signaling, and mechanical stress.Low-intensity pulsed ultrasound (LIPUS) has been used to accelerate bone fracture healing. However, the issue whether LIPUS is effective in preventing osteoporosis has not been clarified, and if so, what possible mechanisms might be responsible. Myostatin (MSTN) is a negative regulator of muscle growth, and its absence will trigger a positive response to bone. In this study, we examined the effects of LIPUS on bone micro-structure, mechanical properties and damage healing of hindlimb-suspended rats, and investigated whether the inhibition of MSTN plays a role in this process. The rats were randomly divided into four groups Normal control group (NC), Hind limb suspension group (HLS), Hind limb suspension and 80 mW/cm2 LIPUS irradiation group (HLS+ 80 mW/cm2), Hind limb suspension and 30 mW/cm2 LIPUS irradiation group (HLS+ 30 mW/cm2). The HLS+ 80 mW/cm2 rats were treated with LIPUS (1 MHz, 80 mW/cm2) and the HLS+ 30 mW/cm2 rats were treated with LIPUS (1 MHz, 30 mW/cm2) on the femur for 20 min/day for 28 days. MC3T3-E1 cells were respectively cultured with the serum of wild type mouse and MSTN knockout mouse at 1% concentration for 7 days. After 28 days, LIPUS effectively prevented the destruction of bone microstructure and the decline of mechanical properties, and promoted bone defect healing in the tail-suspended rats. In addition, LIPUS effectively reduced the MSTN content in the quadriceps and serum of the tail-suspended rats, inhibited its receptor and downstream signaling molecules and activated the Wnt signaling pathway in femurs. Growth of MC-3T3-E1 cell cultured with the serum of MSTN knockout mice was superior to that with wild mice serum on day 7. These results indicate that MSTN is a key mediator in LIPUS preventing bone loss caused by hindlimb-suspension.

To examine differences in maternal sleep-related cognitions and to explore the associations between those cognitions and reported child sleep quality in a sample of mothers of young children, from two major cultural groups in Israel Arab and Jewish.

)-receptor antagonist/inverse agonist, in adult patients with high burden of narcolepsy symptoms.

Data were pooled from two randomized, placebo-controlled, 7- or 8-week studies of pitolisant (titrated to a potential maximum dose of 35.6mg/day) in adults with narcolepsy. Analyses included three independent patient subgroups Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS) baseline score ≥16, Maintenance of Wakefulness Test (MWT) sleep latency ≤8min, and ≥15 cataplexy attacks per week.

The analysis populations included 118 patients for ESS (pitolisant, n=60; placebo, n=58), 105 for MWT (pitolisant, n=59; placebo, n=46), and 31 for cataplexy (pitolisant, n=20; placebo, n=11). On the ESS, least-squares mean change from baseline was significantly greater for pitolisant (-6.1) compared with placebo (-2.3; P<0.001). Significantly more pitolisant-treated patients were classified as treatment responders ESS score reduction ≥3, 69.0% in the pitolisant group versus 35.1% in the placebo group (P=0.001); final ESS score ≤10, 36.2% versus 10.5%, respectively (P=0.005). On the MWT, mean sleep latency increased from 3.5min to 10.4min with pitolisant and from 3.4min to 6.8min with placebo (P=0.017). Evidence evaluating the risk of influenza in patients with OSA is limited. We aimed to investigate the association between OSA and influenza using a nationwide population-based data set.

A total of 5483 individuals with OSA were enrolled from January, 2000, to December, 2012, and compared with a control group of 21,932 individuals who had never been diagnosed with OSA (at a 14 ratio propensity score matched by age, sex, index years, and comorbidities) in the context of subsequent influenza infection. Cox proportional hazard regression analysis was conducted to analyze the association between OSA and influenza incidence. We conducted sensitivity analyses to examine our finding.

During the 1.81 (±2.12) years of the follow-up period, the incidence rate of influenza infection was higher in the OSA group compared with the non-OSA group (36.40 and 30.09 per 100 person-years). After adjusting for age, sex, comorbidities, outpatients visits, the risk of influenza infection among patients with OSA was significantly higher (hazard ratio=1.18; 95% confidence interval=1.14-1.23; P<0.001). Sensitivity analyses showed consistent positive association. Males with OSA had increased risk of influenza infection compared with males without OSA (adjusted HR, 1.21; 95% CI, 1.16-1.27; P value for interaction=0.03).

Immunotherapy is beneficial in dMMR mCRC patients and has recently been approved by the Food and Drug Administration for patients with unresectable or metastatic dMMR CRC. Although dMMR and proficient MMR (pMMR) CRC tumours are biologically distinct, they are commonly treated with the same chemotherapy and monoclonal antibodies. This includes dMMR mCRC patients who did not respond to immunotherapy (20-30%). However, it is unclear if these treatments are equally beneficial in dMMR mCRC. Of note, dMMR mCRC patients have a worse prognosis compared to pMMR, which may in part be caused by a lower response to treatment. To avoid unnecessary exposure to ineffective treatments and their associated toxicity, it is important to identify which systemic treatments are most beneficial in dMMR mCRC patients, thus improving their outcome. Indeed, future treatment strategies are likely to involve combinations of immunotherapy, chemotherapy and monoclonal antibodies.

Intra-uterine insemination is an essential component in the treatment of infertility. Success rates are dependent on clinical factors of the female partner, sperm quality, and preparation technique. The effect of the time interval between the end of sperm preparation in the lab, and its injection into the uterine cavity (lab-to-uterus time) is yet to be determined.

Partner and donor spermatozoa intra-uterine insemination cycles were included. Preparation for intra-uterine insemination of partners' fresh ejaculate or donor thawed spermatozoa was identical. The time interval from the completion of this stage to the actual intra-uterine injection was recorded. The lab-to-uterus intervals were divided into groups A (0-29min), B (30-59min), C (60-89min), and D (90-180min). Pregnancy was defined as two adequate consecutive doubling levels of hCG and the pregnancy rates were compared between the groups.
