This study aimed to design a facile and efficient protocol for upgrading the performance indices of polysulfone (PS) membrane (porosity, hydrophilicity, pure water flux (PWF), surface charge, and fouling-resistance) by blending with newly synthesized poly(ionic) crosslinked chitosan Schiff bases (PICCSBs). The PS-PICCSBs mixed-matrix membranes (MMMs) have successfully fabricated and characterized based on spectral and microscopic analyses, porosity, zeta potential, water contact angle, and water uptake (wettability) measurements. The PWF, fouling-resistance against bovine serum albumin (BSA), as well as ion exchange capacity (IEC) against nitrate anion were studied. The wettability, hydrophilicity and overall porosity of new MMMs have greatly increased, in comparison to a pristine PS membrane (M0). In addition, blending of PS with PICCSBs resulted in switching its surface from negatively- to positively-charged. The PWF of MMMs has increased to reach a maximum value of 238.6 L/m2 h for MMM1 (9.3-fold higher than M0). Meanwhile, BSA rejection has declined from 96.62% for M0 to 41.9% for MMM1. The fouling parameters results of MMMs indicated their low fouling propensity. The IEC of nitrate anions revealed that the nitrate uptake by MMM1 is higher than that for M0 and MMM2 by 34% and 14%, respectively.Protealysin is a Serratia proteamaculans metalloproteinase of the M4 peptidase family and the prototype of a large group of protealysin-like proteases (PLPs). PLPs are likely involved in bacterial interaction with plants and animals as well as in bacterial pathogenesis. We demonstrated that the PLP genes in bacteria colocalize with the genes of putative conserved proteins. In S. proteamaculans, these two genes form a bicistronic operon. The putative S. proteamaculans protein that we called emfourin (M4in) was expressed in Escherichia coli and characterized. M4in forms a complex with protealysin with a 11 stoichiometry and is a potent slow-binding competitive inhibitor of protealysin (Ki = 52 ± 14 pM); besides, M4in is not secreted from S. proteamaculans constitutively. A comparison of amino acid sequences of M4in and its homologs with those of known inhibitors suggests that M4in is the prototype of a new family of protein inhibitors of proteases.The present work pronounces the three phase partitioning (TPP)-facilitated preparation of porous cross-linked Candida antarctica lipase B (CaLB) aggregates (pCLEAs) for 5-Hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) esters synthesis. CLEAs and pCLEAs of CaLB were prepared with eupergit as the support under the optimized conditions of pH 8.0, eupergit/protein ratio of 3.01.0, 50 mM cross-linker concentration and 3.3 mg/mL BSA concentration in 4 h. The optimum starch concentration for pCLEAs was 0.20%, m/v. The maximum biocatalytic load was 650 U/g (CLEAs) and 721 U/g (pCLEAs), and the immobilized biocatalysts were stable over a pH range of 6.0-9.0 and temperature range of (40-60)°C. The BET surface area of CLEAs and pCLEAs were 21.3 and 29.1 m2/g, respectively, and the catalytic efficiency of pCLEAs was 2.2-fold higher than that of CLEAs. Subsequently, the pCLEAs of CaLB were utilized for the manufacturing of industrially significant HMF esters. Under the optimized transesterification conditions, HMF conversion with pCLEAs CaLB was 1.41- and 1.25-fold higher than with free and CLEAs CaLB, respectively. The distribution and synteny of these GRXs on chromosomes, the gene structures, the promoter sequences, and the possible protein subcellular localizations were characterized. Molecular interaction network analysis suggested that MaGRX might interact with glutathione reductase (GR), sulfiredoxin, peroxiredoxin (Prx), and NADPH-dependent thioredoxin reductase C (NTRC), contributing to the antioxidative defense of banana fruit. MicroRNA prediction showed that MaGRX genes might be targeted by different miRNAs. The recombinant plasmid was transformed into BL21 (DE3) host cells and the LKB1 recombinant proteins were successfully expressed by using Isopropyl-β-D-thiogalactopyranoside (IPTG). Finally, purified LKB1 proteins were used as antigen and the rabbit-derived antiserums were collected. The antiserum titer determined by ELISA was not less than 1128000. The results of Western blot suggested that the polyclonal antibody is highly specific to chicken LKB1 protein. Immunofluorescence indicated that the LKB1 protein is mainly expressed in the cytoplasm of liver, heart and hypothalamus cells of chicken. Our study showed that the LKB1 polyclonal antibodies produced by this method are effective and can be used to further study the role of LKB1 in the pathogenesis of chicken disease.A novel antimicrobial gel composed of κ-carrageenan (KC) and a cinnamon essential oil (CEO)/hydroxypropyl-β-cyclodextrin (HPCD) composite was developed. The CEO/HPCD composite was characterized by UV-visible spectrophotometry and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), and the changes in the principal components of CEO upon encapsulation by HPCD were analyzed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). The physicochemical properties, release kinetics and antimicrobial activity of the fabricated gels were investigated. The hardness of the KC gels increased with composite concentration in the range of 1.0-3.0% (w/v) and thereafter decreased. A similar trend was observed for the gumminess and chewiness, whereas the gel springiness remained essentially constant. The CEO/HPCD composite also enhanced the fluidity of the system, and the syneresis was positively correlated with the composite concentration. The controlled release of CEO from the gels was affected by the relative humidity (RH) and CEO content. The Ritger-Peppas model indicated that the CEO release kinetics from the gels proceeded through a combination of diffusion and framework erosion. The KC gel containing 5% CEO/HPCD composite displayed effective antimicrobial activity, prolonging the shelf life of sliced bread by at least two days. The reported gels may have potential applications as a promising material for food preservation.Sugarcane bagasse is a rich source of cellulose (32-45%), hemicellulose (20-32%) and lignin (17-32%), 1.0-9.0% ash and some extractives. Huge amount of the generation of sugarcane bagasse has been a great challenge to industries and environment at global level for many years. Though cellulosic and hemicellulosic fractions in bagasse makes it a potential raw substrate for the production of value-added products at large scale, the presence of lignin hampers its saccharification which further leads to low yields of the value-added products. Therefore, an appropriate pretreatment strategy is of utmost importance that effectively solubilizes the lignin that exposes cellulose and hemicellulose for enzymatic action. Pretreatment also reduces the biomass recalcitrance i.e., cellulose crystallinity, structural complexity of cell wall and lignification for its effective utilization in biorefinery. Sugarcane bagasse served as nutrient medium for the cultivation of diverse microorganisms for the production of industrially important metabolites including enzymes, reducing sugars, prebiotic, organic acids and biofuels. Sugarcane bagasse has been utilized in the generation of electricity, syngas and as biosorbant in the bioremediation of heavy metals. Furthermore, the ash generated from bagasse is an excellent source for the synthesis of high strength and light weight bricks and tiles. Present review describes the utility of sugarcane bagasse as sustainable and renewable lignocellulosic substrate for the production of industrially important multifarious value-added products.

D subtype-adjusted therapy.Most people with mental health disorders cannot receive timely and evidence-based care despite billions of dollars spent by healthcare systems. Researchers have been exploring using digital health technologies to measure behavior in real-world settings with mixed results. There is a need to create accessible and computable digital mental health datasets to advance inclusive and transparently validated research for creating robust real-world digital biomarkers of mental health. Here we share and describe one of the largest and most diverse real-world behavior datasets from over two thousand individuals across the US. The data were generated as part of the two NIMH-funded randomized clinical trials conducted to assess the effectiveness of delivering mental health care continuously remotely. The longitudinal dataset consists of self-assessment of mood, depression, anxiety, and passively gathered phone-based behavioral data streams in real-world settings. This dataset will provide a timely and long-term data resource to evaluate analytical approaches for developing digital behavioral markers and understand the effectiveness of mental health care delivered continuously and remotely.
Economic disparities affect access to assisted reproductive technology (ART) treatment in many countries. At the time of this survey, Japan provided partial reimbursement for ART treatment only for those in low- or middle-income classes due to limited governmental budgets. However, the optimal level of financial support by income class remains unclear.

We conducted a conjoint analysis of ART in Japan in January 2020. We recruited 824 women with fertility problems aged 25 to 44years via an online social research panel. They completed a questionnaire of 16 hypothetical scenarios measuring six relevant ART attributes (i.e., out-of-pocket payment, pregnancy rate, risk of adverse effects, number of visits to outpatient clinics, consultation hours and kindness of staff) and their relations to treatment choice.

Herein, we demonstrate an ultralow (~0.20 W/m·K at room temperature) and glass-like temperature dependence (2-400 K) of κL in a single crystal of layered halide perovskite, Cs3Bi2I6Cl3. Acoustic phonons with low cut-off frequency (20 cm-1) are responsible for the low sound velocity in Cs3Bi2I6Cl3 and make the structure elastically soft. While a strong anharmonicity originates from the low energy and localized rattling-like vibration of Cs atoms, synchrotron X-ray pair-distribution function evidence a local structural distortion in the Bi-halide octahedra and Cl vacancy. The hierarchical chemical bonding and soft vibrations from selective sublattice leading to low κL is intriguing from lattice dynamical perspective as well as have potential applications.
Neuroendocrine differentiation (NED) in colorectal cancer (CRC) cells has been known for decades, and our previous meta-analysis indicated that CRC patients with neuroendocrine differentiation have a lower 5-year survival rate. In recent years, an increasing number of studies have found that exosome-derived long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) play important roles in cancer progression and metastasis. However, the functions and mechanism of exosome-derived lncRNAs in CRC with neuroendocrine differentiation are not yet fully clear.

The clinical significance of NED was assessed in a retrospective study of 105 patients. Next-generation sequencing and bioinformatics analysis were conducted to select lnc-HOXB8-12 for further study. Using immunohistochemistry, qRT-PCR, western blot, transwell assay, immunofluorescence assay, fluorescence in situ hybridization assay and dual-luciferase reporter assay, the oncogenic role of exosome-derived lnc-HOXB8-12 was determined in CRC with NED. The objective of this study was to examine whether patients initiating medical marijuana use for a qualifying health condition experienced changes in health and biopsychosocial functioning over time, including weight gain or loss. Specifically, this observational, longitudinal study evaluated changes in the body mass index (BMI) of adults with co-morbid obesity (body mass index [BMI] ≥ 30 kg/m2) and severe obesity (BMI ≥ 40 kg/m2) who were starting medical marijuana treatment for any of the 23 qualifying medical conditions at one of three dispensaries in Pennsylvania. Height and weight measurements were collected at baseline (prior to medical marijuana use) and then 90 days (± 14 days) later. Participants included in analyses (n = 52, M = 55.0 ± 13.6 years, 59.6% female) had a mean baseline BMI of 36.2 ± 5.4 kg/m2 and the majority sought medical marijuana for chronic pain (73.1%). No significant change in BMI was observed from baseline to month three (p > 0.05) in the sample. The aim of this study is investigate the antimicrobial effect of plant oils against bacterial strains isolated from neonatal asymptomatic bacteriuria (ABU) and to evaluate the antiseptic effect of the most potent one.

The antimicrobial effect of 17 plant oils were tested against 15- gram-negative bacterial strains recovered from cases of neonatal ABU (11 Escherichia. coli, 3 Klebsiella pneumonia, and 1 Pseudomonas aeruginosa) using the agar well diffusion method. The micro-dilution method was performed to investigate the minimum inhibitory concentrations (MIC) and the minimum bactericidal concentrations (MBC) in concentrations ranging from 1.95 μg/ml to 500 μg/ml. The evaluation of the antiseptic activity of the Eruca sativa (arugula) seed oil was investigated using time-kill assay in concentrations ranging from 50 μg/ml to 0.195 μg/ml.

All tested oils showed variable antimicrobial activities against the tested strains. Arugula, wheat germ, cinnamon, parsley, dill, and onion oils were the most active oils. Among them, arugula oil was the most active oil with MIC

were 3.9 μg/ml and 31.3 μg/ml respectively. MBC

In this comprehensive review of clinical and basic research studies, we detail the epidemiology, clinical implications, pathogenesis, and management strategies of patients with acute kidney injury-associated delirium. Specifically addressed are the pathological roles of endogenous toxin or drug accumulation, acute kidney injury-mediated neuroinflammation, and acute kidney injury-associated volume overload as discrete potential biological mechanisms of the condition. The optimization of clinical contributors and normalization of renal function are reviewed as pragmatic management strategies in addition to potential and emerging therapeutic approaches.Former prospective studies showed that the occurrence of relapse in Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) is associated with volume loss in the insula, hippocampus and dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC). However, these studies were confounded by the patient's lifetime disease history, as the number of previous episodes predict future recurrence. In order to analyze neural correlates of recurrence irrespective of prior disease course, this study prospectively examined changes in brain structure in patients with first-episode depression (FED) over 2 years. N = 63 FED patients and n = 63 healthy controls (HC) underwent structural magnetic resonance imaging at baseline and after 2 years. According to their disease course during the follow-up interval, patients were grouped into n = 21 FED patients with recurrence (FEDrec) during follow-up and n = 42 FED patients with stable remission (FEDrem). Gray matter volume changes were analysed using group by time interaction analyses of covariance for the DLPFC, hippocampus and insula. Significant group by time interactions in the DLPFC and insula emerged. Pairwise comparisons showed that FEDrec had greater volume decline in the DLPFC and insula from baseline to follow-up compared with FEDrem and HC. No group by time interactions in the hippocampus were found. Cross-sectional analyses at baseline and follow-up revealed no differences between groups. This longitudinal study provides evidence for neural alterations in the DLPFC and insula related to a detrimental course in MDD. These effects of recurrence are already detectable at initial stages of MDD and seem to occur without any prior disease history, emphasizing the importance of early interventions preventing depressive recurrence.
The gap in treatment and health outcomes after diagnosis of pancreatic cancer is a major public health concern. We aimed to investigate the differences in the health outcomes and treatment of pancreatic cancer patients in healthcare vulnerable and non-vulnerable areas.

This retrospective cohort study evaluated data from the Korea National Health Insurance Corporation-National Sample Cohort from 2002 to 2019. The position value for relative comparison index was used to define healthcare vulnerable areas. Cox proportional hazard regression was used to estimate the risk of mortality in pancreatic cancer patients according to healthcare vulnerable areas, and multiple logistic regression was used to estimate the difference in treatment.

Among 1,975 patients, 279 (14.1%) and 1,696 (85.9%) lived in the healthcare vulnerable and non-vulnerable areas, respectively. To characterize the corneal and epithelial thickness at different stages of keratoconus (KC), using a deep learning based corneal segmentation algorithm for anterior segment optical coherence tomography (AS-OCT).

An AS-OCT dataset was constructed in this study with 1,430 images from 715 eyes, which included 118 normal eyes, 134 mild KC, 239 moderate KC, 153 severe KC, and 71 scarring KC. A deep learning based corneal segmentation algorithm was applied to isolate the epithelial and corneal tissues from the background. Based on the segmentation results, the thickness of epithelial and corneal tissues was automatically measured in the center 6 mm area. One-way ANOVA and linear regression were performed in 20 equally divided zones to explore the trend of the thickness changes at different locations with the KC progression. The 95% confidence intervals (CI) of epithelial thickness and corneal thickness in a specific zone were calculated to reveal the difference of thickness distribution among different groups. stages of the KC progression.
Our study demonstrates that our deep learning method based on AS-OCT images could accurately delineate the corneal tissues and further successfully characterize the epithelial and corneal thickness changes at different stages of the KC progression.We present an efficient and scalable partitioning method for mapping large-scale neural network models with locally dense and globally sparse connectivity onto reconfigurable neuromorphic hardware. Scalability in computational efficiency, i.e., amount of time spent in actual computation, remains a huge challenge in very large networks. Most partitioning algorithms also struggle to address the scalability in network workloads in finding a globally optimal partition and efficiently mapping onto hardware. As communication is regarded as the most energy and time-consuming part of such distributed processing, the partitioning framework is optimized for compute-balanced, memory-efficient parallel processing targeting low-latency execution and dense synaptic storage, with minimal routing across various compute cores. We demonstrate highly scalable and efficient partitioning for connectivity-aware and hierarchical address-event routing resource-optimized mapping, significantly reducing the total communication volume recursively when compared to random balanced assignment. We showcase our results working on synthetic networks with varying degrees of sparsity factor and fan-out, small-world networks, feed-forward networks, and a hemibrain connectome reconstruction of the fruit-fly brain. We investigated the atypical connectivity and information flow between the prefrontal cortex and posterior brain regions in ASD utilizing the entropy connectivity (a kind of directional connectivity) method. Eighty-nine patients with ASD and 94 typical developing (TD) teenagers participated in this study. Two-sample t-tests revealed weakened interactive entropy connectivity between the prefrontal cortex and posterior brain regions. This result indicates that there exists interactive prefrontal-posterior underconnectivity in ASD, and this disorder might lead to less prior knowledge being used and updated. A comprehensive questionnaire was self-designed for both children and their parents or guardians and was distributed to 30 kindergartens from Beijing and Hebei, collecting potential influential factors in susceptibility to ADHD. ADHD was assessed by the Conner's Abbreviated Symptom Questionnaire (C-ASQ), and 7,938 children were analyzed. Least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) regression and hierarchical degree of adjustment were used to control possible covariates. Five factors, namely, children's secondhand smoking exposure, breastfeeding duration, sleep mode, maternal pregnancy smoking exposure, and parental self-rating for patience, were identified to be independently and significantly associated with ADHD susceptibility. Meanwhile, dose-response relationships were observed between breastfeeding duration, parental self-rating for patience, and ADHD-related symptoms. Finally, a nomogram model was created for predicting ADHD susceptibility based on significant and conventional attributes under each criterion.Objectives Developmental processes influence the determinants of health and, consequently, human health. Yet, assessing human health impacts in impact assessment, with exception of health impact assessment, is still rather vague. Inclusion of Sustainable Development Goal indicators in environmental impact assessment (EIA) is an opportunity to enhance addressing human health in EIA practices. Methods We reviewed a list of health-related targets and indicators for SDGs as defined by the Institute of Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME) in Seattle, WA, United States with the aim of identifying those to be suggested as outcome indicators within EIA. Methods Last disease episodes of surviving children and fatal outcomes of children under 5 years of age were investigated by means of an adapted social autopsy questionnaire administered to main caregivers. Descriptive analysis and logistic models were employed to identify key determinants of modern healthcare use. Results Overall, 736 non-fatal and 82 fatal cases were assessed. Modern healthcare was sought for 63.9% of non-fatal and 76.8% of fatal cases, respectively. In non-fatal cases, young age, caregiver being a parent, secondary or higher education, living less then 5 km from a health facility, and certain clinical signs (i.e., fever, severe vomiting, inability to drink, convulsion, and inability to play) were positively associated with modern healthcare seeking. In fatal cases, only signs of lower respiratory disease were positively associated with modern healthcare seeking. A lack of awareness regarding clinical danger signs was identified in both groups. Conclusion Interventions promoting prompt healthcare seeking and the recognition of danger signs may help improve treatment seeking in rural settings of Côte d'Ivoire and can potentially help further reduce under-five mortality.

A mixture of five herbal extracts called internatural (INT), which is prepared from pumpkin seeds, purple turmeric, pearl barley, corn pistil, and cinnamon, is widely used by people in Japan and elsewhere for its immunity-enhancing effects and general health. Although anecdotal evidence indicates its efficacy, the mechanisms by which INT boosts immunity have remained unknown.

The aim of this study was to investigate whether INT induces type I interferons (IFNs) in murine bone marrow-derived macrophages (BMDMs) and by what mechanism.

We measured induction of type I IFNs (IFNβ and IFNα) in BMDMs treated with INT or other Toll-like receptor ligands bacterial lipopolysaccharides (LPS), dsRNA, poly(IC), and CpG oligonucleotides. To investigate whether INT signals through Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4), we tested TLR4-specific inhibitor. We also tested if INT utilizes TLR4 adaptors, toll/IL-1 receptor (TIR) domain-containing adaptor (TRIF), or myeloid differentiation factor 88 (MyD88), we examined INT induction of IFNβ in TRIF-KO and MyD88-KO BMDMs.

This study aimed to design a facile and efficient protocol for upgrading the performance indices of polysulfone (PS) membrane (porosity, hydrophilicity, pure water flux (PWF), surface charge, and fouling-resistance) by blending with newly synthesized poly(ionic) crosslinked chitosan Schiff bases (PICCSBs). The PS-PICCSBs mixed-matrix membranes (MMMs) have successfully fabricated and characterized based on spectral and microscopic analyses, porosity, zeta potential, water contact angle, and water uptake (wettability) measurements. The PWF, fouling-resistance against bovine serum albumin (BSA), as well as ion exchange capacity (IEC) against nitrate anion were studied. The wettability, hydrophilicity and overall porosity of new MMMs have greatly increased, in comparison to a pristine PS membrane (M0). In addition, blending of PS with PICCSBs resulted in switching its surface from negatively- to positively-charged. The PWF of MMMs has increased to reach a maximum value of 238.6 L/m2 h for MMM1 (9.3-fold higher than M0). Meanwhile, BSA rejection has declined from 96.62% for M0 to 41.9% for MMM1. The fouling parameters results of MMMs indicated their low fouling propensity. The IEC of nitrate anions revealed that the nitrate uptake by MMM1 is higher than that for M0 and MMM2 by 34% and 14%, respectively.Protealysin is a Serratia proteamaculans metalloproteinase of the M4 peptidase family and the prototype of a large group of protealysin-like proteases (PLPs). PLPs are likely involved in bacterial interaction with plants and animals as well as in bacterial pathogenesis. We demonstrated that the PLP genes in bacteria colocalize with the genes of putative conserved proteins. In S. proteamaculans, these two genes form a bicistronic operon. The putative S. proteamaculans protein that we called emfourin (M4in) was expressed in Escherichia coli and characterized. M4in forms a complex with protealysin with a 11 stoichiometry and is a potent slow-binding competitive inhibitor of protealysin (Ki = 52 ± 14 pM); besides, M4in is not secreted from S. proteamaculans constitutively. A comparison of amino acid sequences of M4in and its homologs with those of known inhibitors suggests that M4in is the prototype of a new family of protein inhibitors of proteases.The present work pronounces the three phase partitioning (TPP)-facilitated preparation of porous cross-linked Candida antarctica lipase B (CaLB) aggregates (pCLEAs) for 5-Hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) esters synthesis. CLEAs and pCLEAs of CaLB were prepared with eupergit as the support under the optimized conditions of pH 8.0, eupergit/protein ratio of 3.01.0, 50 mM cross-linker concentration and 3.3 mg/mL BSA concentration in 4 h. The optimum starch concentration for pCLEAs was 0.20%, m/v. The maximum biocatalytic load was 650 U/g (CLEAs) and 721 U/g (pCLEAs), and the immobilized biocatalysts were stable over a pH range of 6.0-9.0 and temperature range of (40-60)°C. The BET surface area of CLEAs and pCLEAs were 21.3 and 29.1 m2/g, respectively, and the catalytic efficiency of pCLEAs was 2.2-fold higher than that of CLEAs. Subsequently, the pCLEAs of CaLB were utilized for the manufacturing of industrially significant HMF esters. Under the optimized transesterification conditions, HMF conversion with pCLEAs CaLB was 1.41- and 1.25-fold higher than with free and CLEAs CaLB, respectively. The pCLEAs were reused upto 8 consecutive transesterification cycles and the produced HMF esters reduced the surface tension of water from 72 mN/m to 32.6 mN/m, proving its potential application as surface-active compounds.Requirement for medication from pathogenic human viruses and cancer diseases are urgently considered, while, numerous reports were focused on investigating easily manufactured and excellently effective therapeutic reagents. However, little information on the role of GRXs in the regulation of fruit ripening and the response to stress is available. In this study, we isolated 64 GRX genes from banana genome. Their encoded GRX proteins could be classified into four classes CC, CGFS, CPYC and GRL types. The distribution and synteny of these GRXs on chromosomes, the gene structures, the promoter sequences, and the possible protein subcellular localizations were characterized. Molecular interaction network analysis suggested that MaGRX might interact with glutathione reductase (GR), sulfiredoxin, peroxiredoxin (Prx), and NADPH-dependent thioredoxin reductase C (NTRC), contributing to the antioxidative defense of banana fruit. MicroRNA prediction showed that MaGRX genes might be targeted by different miRNAs. Transcriptome analysis characterized the expression profiles of different MaGRX genes during banana fruit ripening, and in response to different storage stresses. The results suggested that CC-type, CPYC-type and GRL-type MaGRXs might be more active than CGFS-type MaGRXs during banana fruit ripening and the response to stress. Moreover, MaGRX6/7/9/11/17/23/28 and MaGRL3/16/19 might play important roles in regulating fruit ripening or in response to low and high temperature, or Fusarium proliferatum infection.Modified biopolymer chitosan namely 2-hydroxy-1-naphthaldehyde chitosan (CTS-Nap) has been synthesized for the removal of toxic chromium from aqueous solutions. In an attempt to enhance the adsorption capacity of toxic chromium on the prepared modified biopolymer, magnetic Fe3O4 nanoparticles have been loaded on the modified adsorbent to form the magnetite adsorbent (Fe3O4@CTS-Nap). The adsorption mechanism of both adsorbents is explored by batch experiments, FT-IR, SEM, TEM, XRD, VSM, and EDS. The optimum adsorption is achieved at pH 1.5 for CTS-Nap and 1.0 for Fe3O4@CTS-Nap. Pseudo second order illustrated the best description for the adsorption process with correlation coefficient R2 = 0.999 and the film diffusion or chemisorption is the rate-limiting step. The equilibrium data is analyzed using five isotherm models, the experimental data agreed well with the Freundlich model with a maximum adsorption capacity of 78.12 mg g-1 and 57.14 mg g-1 for CTS-Nap and Fe3O4@CTS-Nap, respectively. However, this unexpected result revealed that the presence of magnetic nanoparticles does not always enhance the adsorption process and many other factors could control the adsorption process. Generally, these outcomes revealed that the unmagnetite modified adsorbent CTS-Nap have practical greater influence on wastewater treatment management rather than the magnetic modified chitosan Fe3O4@CTS-Nap.Liver kinase B1 (LKB1) is a member of the serine/threonine kinase family, which plays an indispensable role in the organism of animals. In the current study, the chicken LKB1 protein gene was amplified by PCR based on the primers and cDNA templates. Then, the cloning vector was constructed and the target gene was cloned. After that, the target gene was inserted into the expression vector to construct the recombinant plasmid. The recombinant plasmid was transformed into BL21 (DE3) host cells and the LKB1 recombinant proteins were successfully expressed by using Isopropyl-β-D-thiogalactopyranoside (IPTG). Finally, purified LKB1 proteins were used as antigen and the rabbit-derived antiserums were collected. The antiserum titer determined by ELISA was not less than 1128000. The results of Western blot suggested that the polyclonal antibody is highly specific to chicken LKB1 protein. Immunofluorescence indicated that the LKB1 protein is mainly expressed in the cytoplasm of liver, heart and hypothalamus cells of chicken. Our study showed that the LKB1 polyclonal antibodies produced by this method are effective and can be used to further study the role of LKB1 in the pathogenesis of chicken disease.A novel antimicrobial gel composed of κ-carrageenan (KC) and a cinnamon essential oil (CEO)/hydroxypropyl-β-cyclodextrin (HPCD) composite was developed. The CEO/HPCD composite was characterized by UV-visible spectrophotometry and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), and the changes in the principal components of CEO upon encapsulation by HPCD were analyzed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). The physicochemical properties, release kinetics and antimicrobial activity of the fabricated gels were investigated. The hardness of the KC gels increased with composite concentration in the range of 1.0-3.0% (w/v) and thereafter decreased. A similar trend was observed for the gumminess and chewiness, whereas the gel springiness remained essentially constant. The CEO/HPCD composite also enhanced the fluidity of the system, and the syneresis was positively correlated with the composite concentration. The controlled release of CEO from the gels was affected by the relative humidity (RH) and CEO content. The Ritger-Peppas model indicated that the CEO release kinetics from the gels proceeded through a combination of diffusion and framework erosion. The KC gel containing 5% CEO/HPCD composite displayed effective antimicrobial activity, prolonging the shelf life of sliced bread by at least two days. The reported gels may have potential applications as a promising material for food preservation.Sugarcane bagasse is a rich source of cellulose (32-45%), hemicellulose (20-32%) and lignin (17-32%), 1.0-9.0% ash and some extractives. Huge amount of the generation of sugarcane bagasse has been a great challenge to industries and environment at global level for many years. Though cellulosic and hemicellulosic fractions in bagasse makes it a potential raw substrate for the production of value-added products at large scale, the presence of lignin hampers its saccharification which further leads to low yields of the value-added products. Therefore, an appropriate pretreatment strategy is of utmost importance that effectively solubilizes the lignin that exposes cellulose and hemicellulose for enzymatic action. Pretreatment also reduces the biomass recalcitrance i.e., cellulose crystallinity, structural complexity of cell wall and lignification for its effective utilization in biorefinery. Sugarcane bagasse served as nutrient medium for the cultivation of diverse microorganisms for the production of industrially important metabolites including enzymes, reducing sugars, prebiotic, organic acids and biofuels. Sugarcane bagasse has been utilized in the generation of electricity, syngas and as biosorbant in the bioremediation of heavy metals. Furthermore, the ash generated from bagasse is an excellent source for the synthesis of high strength and light weight bricks and tiles. Present review describes the utility of sugarcane bagasse as sustainable and renewable lignocellulosic substrate for the production of industrially important multifarious value-added products.

D subtype-adjusted therapy.Most people with mental health disorders cannot receive timely and evidence-based care despite billions of dollars spent by healthcare systems. Researchers have been exploring using digital health technologies to measure behavior in real-world settings with mixed results. There is a need to create accessible and computable digital mental health datasets to advance inclusive and transparently validated research for creating robust real-world digital biomarkers of mental health. Here we share and describe one of the largest and most diverse real-world behavior datasets from over two thousand individuals across the US. The data were generated as part of the two NIMH-funded randomized clinical trials conducted to assess the effectiveness of delivering mental health care continuously remotely. The longitudinal dataset consists of self-assessment of mood, depression, anxiety, and passively gathered phone-based behavioral data streams in real-world settings. This dataset will provide a timely and long-term data resource to evaluate analytical approaches for developing digital behavioral markers and understand the effectiveness of mental health care delivered continuously and remotely.
Economic disparities affect access to assisted reproductive technology (ART) treatment in many countries. At the time of this survey, Japan provided partial reimbursement for ART treatment only for those in low- or middle-income classes due to limited governmental budgets. However, the optimal level of financial support by income class remains unclear.

We conducted a conjoint analysis of ART in Japan in January 2020. We recruited 824 women with fertility problems aged 25 to 44years via an online social research panel. They completed a questionnaire of 16 hypothetical scenarios measuring six relevant ART attributes (i.e., out-of-pocket payment, pregnancy rate, risk of adverse effects, number of visits to outpatient clinics, consultation hours and kindness of staff) and their relations to treatment choice.

Mixed-effect logistic regression models showed that all six attributes significantly influenced treatment preferences, with participants valuing out-of-pocket payment the most, followed by pregnancy ratncome-based ineligibility for government financial support might discourage some from receiving treatment.As the periodic atomic arrangement of a crystal is made to a disorder or glassy-amorphous system by destroying the long-range order, lattice thermal conductivity, κL, decreases, and its fundamental characteristics changes. The realization of ultralow and unusual glass-like κL in a crystalline material is challenging but crucial to many applications like thermoelectrics and thermal barrier coatings. Herein, we demonstrate an ultralow (~0.20 W/m·K at room temperature) and glass-like temperature dependence (2-400 K) of κL in a single crystal of layered halide perovskite, Cs3Bi2I6Cl3. Acoustic phonons with low cut-off frequency (20 cm-1) are responsible for the low sound velocity in Cs3Bi2I6Cl3 and make the structure elastically soft. While a strong anharmonicity originates from the low energy and localized rattling-like vibration of Cs atoms, synchrotron X-ray pair-distribution function evidence a local structural distortion in the Bi-halide octahedra and Cl vacancy. The hierarchical chemical bonding and soft vibrations from selective sublattice leading to low κL is intriguing from lattice dynamical perspective as well as have potential applications.
Neuroendocrine differentiation (NED) in colorectal cancer (CRC) cells has been known for decades, and our previous meta-analysis indicated that CRC patients with neuroendocrine differentiation have a lower 5-year survival rate. In recent years, an increasing number of studies have found that exosome-derived long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) play important roles in cancer progression and metastasis. However, the functions and mechanism of exosome-derived lncRNAs in CRC with neuroendocrine differentiation are not yet fully clear.

The clinical significance of NED was assessed in a retrospective study of 105 patients. Next-generation sequencing and bioinformatics analysis were conducted to select lnc-HOXB8-12 for further study. Using immunohistochemistry, qRT-PCR, western blot, transwell assay, immunofluorescence assay, fluorescence in situ hybridization assay and dual-luciferase reporter assay, the oncogenic role of exosome-derived lnc-HOXB8-12 was determined in CRC with NED. The mechanism underlying the lnc-HOmpetitively binding hsa-miR-6825-5p to upregulate CXCR3 expression and leading to TAM infiltration and M2 polarization, which promotes neuroendocrine differentiated CRC progression.

The objective of this study was to examine whether patients initiating medical marijuana use for a qualifying health condition experienced changes in health and biopsychosocial functioning over time, including weight gain or loss. Specifically, this observational, longitudinal study evaluated changes in the body mass index (BMI) of adults with co-morbid obesity (body mass index [BMI] ≥ 30 kg/m2) and severe obesity (BMI ≥ 40 kg/m2) who were starting medical marijuana treatment for any of the 23 qualifying medical conditions at one of three dispensaries in Pennsylvania. Height and weight measurements were collected at baseline (prior to medical marijuana use) and then 90 days (± 14 days) later. Participants included in analyses (n = 52, M = 55.0 ± 13.6 years, 59.6% female) had a mean baseline BMI of 36.2 ± 5.4 kg/m2 and the majority sought medical marijuana for chronic pain (73.1%). No significant change in BMI was observed from baseline to month three (p > 0.05) in the sample. The aim of this study is investigate the antimicrobial effect of plant oils against bacterial strains isolated from neonatal asymptomatic bacteriuria (ABU) and to evaluate the antiseptic effect of the most potent one.

The antimicrobial effect of 17 plant oils were tested against 15- gram-negative bacterial strains recovered from cases of neonatal ABU (11 Escherichia. coli, 3 Klebsiella pneumonia, and 1 Pseudomonas aeruginosa) using the agar well diffusion method. The micro-dilution method was performed to investigate the minimum inhibitory concentrations (MIC) and the minimum bactericidal concentrations (MBC) in concentrations ranging from 1.95 μg/ml to 500 μg/ml. The evaluation of the antiseptic activity of the Eruca sativa (arugula) seed oil was investigated using time-kill assay in concentrations ranging from 50 μg/ml to 0.195 μg/ml.

All tested oils showed variable antimicrobial activities against the tested strains. Arugula, wheat germ, cinnamon, parsley, dill, and onion oils were the most active oils. Among them, arugula oil was the most active oil with MIC

were 3.9 μg/ml and 31.3 μg/ml respectively. MBC

In this comprehensive review of clinical and basic research studies, we detail the epidemiology, clinical implications, pathogenesis, and management strategies of patients with acute kidney injury-associated delirium. Specifically addressed are the pathological roles of endogenous toxin or drug accumulation, acute kidney injury-mediated neuroinflammation, and acute kidney injury-associated volume overload as discrete potential biological mechanisms of the condition. The optimization of clinical contributors and normalization of renal function are reviewed as pragmatic management strategies in addition to potential and emerging therapeutic approaches.Former prospective studies showed that the occurrence of relapse in Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) is associated with volume loss in the insula, hippocampus and dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC). However, these studies were confounded by the patient's lifetime disease history, as the number of previous episodes predict future recurrence. In order to analyze neural correlates of recurrence irrespective of prior disease course, this study prospectively examined changes in brain structure in patients with first-episode depression (FED) over 2 years. N = 63 FED patients and n = 63 healthy controls (HC) underwent structural magnetic resonance imaging at baseline and after 2 years. According to their disease course during the follow-up interval, patients were grouped into n = 21 FED patients with recurrence (FEDrec) during follow-up and n = 42 FED patients with stable remission (FEDrem). Gray matter volume changes were analysed using group by time interaction analyses of covariance for the DLPFC, hippocampus and insula. Significant group by time interactions in the DLPFC and insula emerged. Pairwise comparisons showed that FEDrec had greater volume decline in the DLPFC and insula from baseline to follow-up compared with FEDrem and HC. No group by time interactions in the hippocampus were found. Cross-sectional analyses at baseline and follow-up revealed no differences between groups. This longitudinal study provides evidence for neural alterations in the DLPFC and insula related to a detrimental course in MDD. These effects of recurrence are already detectable at initial stages of MDD and seem to occur without any prior disease history, emphasizing the importance of early interventions preventing depressive recurrence.
The gap in treatment and health outcomes after diagnosis of pancreatic cancer is a major public health concern. We aimed to investigate the differences in the health outcomes and treatment of pancreatic cancer patients in healthcare vulnerable and non-vulnerable areas.

This retrospective cohort study evaluated data from the Korea National Health Insurance Corporation-National Sample Cohort from 2002 to 2019. The position value for relative comparison index was used to define healthcare vulnerable areas. To characterize the corneal and epithelial thickness at different stages of keratoconus (KC), using a deep learning based corneal segmentation algorithm for anterior segment optical coherence tomography (AS-OCT).

An AS-OCT dataset was constructed in this study with 1,430 images from 715 eyes, which included 118 normal eyes, 134 mild KC, 239 moderate KC, 153 severe KC, and 71 scarring KC. A deep learning based corneal segmentation algorithm was applied to isolate the epithelial and corneal tissues from the background. Based on the segmentation results, the thickness of epithelial and corneal tissues was automatically measured in the center 6 mm area. One-way ANOVA and linear regression were performed in 20 equally divided zones to explore the trend of the thickness changes at different locations with the KC progression. Scalability in computational efficiency, i.e., amount of time spent in actual computation, remains a huge challenge in very large networks. Most partitioning algorithms also struggle to address the scalability in network workloads in finding a globally optimal partition and efficiently mapping onto hardware. As communication is regarded as the most energy and time-consuming part of such distributed processing, the partitioning framework is optimized for compute-balanced, memory-efficient parallel processing targeting low-latency execution and dense synaptic storage, with minimal routing across various compute cores. We demonstrate highly scalable and efficient partitioning for connectivity-aware and hierarchical address-event routing resource-optimized mapping, significantly reducing the total communication volume recursively when compared to random balanced assignment. We showcase our results working on synthetic networks with varying degrees of sparsity factor and fan-out, small-world networks, feed-forward networks, and a hemibrain connectome reconstruction of the fruit-fly brain. This result indicates that there exists interactive prefrontal-posterior underconnectivity in ASD, and this disorder might lead to less prior knowledge being used and updated. A comprehensive questionnaire was self-designed for both children and their parents or guardians and was distributed to 30 kindergartens from Beijing and Hebei, collecting potential influential factors in susceptibility to ADHD. ADHD was assessed by the Conner's Abbreviated Symptom Questionnaire (C-ASQ), and 7,938 children were analyzed. Least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) regression and hierarchical degree of adjustment were used to control possible covariates. Five factors, namely, children's secondhand smoking exposure, breastfeeding duration, sleep mode, maternal pregnancy smoking exposure, and parental self-rating for patience, were identified to be independently and significantly associated with ADHD susceptibility. Meanwhile, dose-response relationships were observed between breastfeeding duration, parental self-rating for patience, and ADHD-related symptoms. In fatal cases, only signs of lower respiratory disease were positively associated with modern healthcare seeking. A lack of awareness regarding clinical danger signs was identified in both groups. Conclusion Interventions promoting prompt healthcare seeking and the recognition of danger signs may help improve treatment seeking in rural settings of Côte d'Ivoire and can potentially help further reduce under-five mortality.

Aims and objective To identify an ideal systolic blood pressure range based on optimal survival among ESRD patients on dialysis. Method A systematic search for clinical trials assessing the impact of different systolic blood pressure range on mortality among ESRD patients on hemodialysis was conducted through PubMed, EBSCOhost, Science Direct, Google Scholar, and Scopus. All randomized control trials (RCTs) involving ESRD patients on hemodialysis with primary or secondary outcome of assessing the impact different systolic blood pressure range (140 mm Hg at the end of trial, with the RR for reduction of mortality of 0.72 (95% CI, 0.54-0.96; P = 0.003). Overall, pooled estimates of the six RCTs suggested the reduction in systolic blood pressure statistically reduce all cause of mortality (RR, 0.69%; 95% CI, 0.53-0.90; P = 0.006) among ESRD patients on hemodialysis. Conclusion Though not statically significant, the current study identifies less then 140 mm Hg as a promising blood pressure range for optimum survival among ESRD patients on hemodialysis. A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted from April 2014 to December 2014 among patients who had been diagnosed with diabetes mellitus (DM), hypertension (HT), and hyperlipidemia (HL) in Family Medicine Department of Dışkapı Yıldırım Beyazıt Training and Research Hospital, in Ankara. A questionnaire about herbal drug use was applied by face to face interview to the participants.

A total of 217 patients were included in this study. The mean age of the participants was 56.6 ± 9.7 years (55 male and 162 female). The rate of herbal medicine use was 29%. Herbal medicine use among female gender was significantly higher (P = 0.040). Conventional medication use was found to be lower among herbal medicine consumers. There was no relationship between herbal medicine use and type of chronic disease, living area, and occupation or education level. Most frequently used herbs were lemon (39.6%) and garlic (11.1%) for HT, cinnamon (12.7%) for DM, and walnut (6.3%) for HL.

In this study, herbal medicine use was found to be higher among patients who had been diagnosed with chronic diseases. Therefore, physicians should be aware of herbal medicine usage of their patients and inform them about the effectivity and side effects of herbal medicines.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate how increasing NaCl salinity in the medium can affects the essential oils (EOs) composition and phenolic diterpene content and yield in leaves of Salvia officinalis L. The protective role of such compounds against NaCl stress was also argued with regard to some physiological characteristics of the plant (water and ionic relations as well as the leaf gas exchanges).

Potted plants were exposed to increasing NaCl concentrations (0, 50, 75, and 100 mM) for 4 weeks during July 2012. Replicates from each treatment were harvested after 0, 2, 3, and 4 weeks of adding salt to perform physiological measurements and biochemical analysis.

Sage EOs were rich in manool, viridiflorol, camphor, and borneol. Irrigation with a solution containing 100 mM NaCl for 4 weeks increased considerably 1.8-cineole, camphor and β-thujone concentrations, whereas lower concentrations (50 and 75 mM) had no effects. On the contrary, borneol and viridiflorol concentrations decreased significantly under the former treatment while manool and total fatty acid concentrations were not affected. Leaf extracts also contained several diterpenes such as carnosic acid (CA), carnosol, and 12-O-methoxy carnosic acid (MCA). The concentrations and total contents of CA and MCA increased after 3 weeks of irrigation with 75 or 100 mM NaCl. The 50 mM NaCl had no effect on these diterpenes. Our results suggest a protective role for CA against salinity stress.

We tested the hypothesis that administrations of methanolic extracts of Musa sapientum sucker (MEMS) with exercises attenuated hyperglycemia in alloxan-diabetic rats.

A total of 40 adult male rats were divided into equal eight groups. Normoglycemic Group A was Control. Alloxan (180 mg/kg, i.p.) was administered to rats in Groups B - H to induce diabetes. Group B (diabetic control) received physiological saline. Groups C - H received MEMS (5 mg/kg), MEMS (10 mg/kg), Glibenclamide (5 mg/kg), MEMS (5 mg/kg) + exercises, MEMS (10 mg/kg) + exercises and Exercises only, respectively. Changes in body weight, blood glucose levels (BGL) and pancreatic histology were evaluated during or at the end of experiment. Body weights and BGL of rats were expressed as mean ± standard deviation and analyzed using the statistical software program SPSS 15. Statistical comparisons were done using the Student's t-test for unpaired samples. Differences between groups were determined as significant at P ≤ 0.05.

Significantly (P < 0.05) decreased bodyweight was observed in B and H compared to A and C - G. Treatment with MEMS significantly (P < 0.05) decreased elevated BGL in C and D. Hypoglycemic effect of MEMS appeared enhanced with exercises in F and G. Exercises regimen alone (H) resulted in percentage reduction in BGL lower than those of C - G. Crinum jagus (J. Thomps.) Dandy commonly called Harmattan or St. Christopher's lily belonging to the family Liliaceae is widely used traditionally in Southeastern Nigeria for treatment of skin sores. This study investigated the wound healing potentials of methanolic C. jagus bulb extract (MCJBE) using incision, excision, and dead space wound healing models.

Phytochemical screening showed the presence of alkaloids, glycosides, tannins, saponins in the extract, but absence of flavonoids. In the incision and dead space wound models, rats were dosed orally with 300 mg/kg body weight (bw) of 10 and 5% of MCJBE solution, respectively, while in the excision wound model, rats were treated topically with 10 and 5% MCJBE ointments (MCJBEO), respectively.

Lycopene, a carotenoid and hesperidin, a flavonoid are naturally occurring in vegetables and fruits. Synergistic effect of a combination of carotenoid and flavonoid has been reported due to its antioxidant activity. Therefore, the present study was aimed to evaluate the protective effect of this combination on pylorus ligation induced ulcers in rats.

Thirty Wistar albino rats were divided into five groups (n = 6). Rats were fasted for 24 h before pylorus ligation. After 24 h of fasting the rats were treated with hesperidin (100 mg/kg) and lycopene (2 mg/kg) and their combination 1h prior to surgery. After an hour under ether anesthesia pylorus ligation was performed, after 5 h the animals were sacrificed, stomach was dissected, and gastric contents were collected and measured. Total acidity and pH of gastric content was estimated. Ulcer index was calculated, and macroscopic examination of the stomach was carried out.

The sham operated rats showed a significant increase in pH, volume of gastric content and total acidity and ulcer index.
