“It's easiest to “Unschool” under an umbrella school but you can unschool under the traditional homeschooling option, too. It's just a little more difficult because you have to keep a portfolio.

No one learns anything of value when they're bored, required, near tears, or when they'd rather be doing something else more engaging or enjoyable.

That's why we don't try to emulate the school system.

Why would I try to recreate the same system at home which fails students at school? Why would I indoctrinate my child at home using the same types of tactics as the system?

My goal is to influence my children, not indoctrinate them.

Any "schoolwork" that is forced or required as a condition before being allowed to do more enjoyable things is coercion and indoctrination. Any learning that is not voluntary, enjoyable, or self-motivated by the student is unlikely to be enjoyed or retained long term.

All people deserve to live and learn freely -- guided by their interests, inspired by what sparks joy and creativity, and driven by personal goals unrelated to parental demands, societal expectations, or arbitrary "standards".
