Blind hope is worse than useless because it handicaps your ability to act on what you know will happen.

We have lost our rights slowly over time like the frog in the pot of water where the heat is turned up slowly so that it never notices what is happening until it is too late. People hope that the plague doctor and economist alike have arcane knowledge that will give them secret insight to fix their health and the economy. Both fall prey to the same incentives that leave their victims no better off while lining their own pockets.
