Angels on the Walls
Bible in a Year :
Leviticus 1–3
Matthew 24:1–28
We prayed to our God and posted a guard day and night to meet this threat.

Today's Scripture & Insight :

Nehemiah 4:6–9
When Wallace and Mary Brown moved to an impoverished part of Birmingham, England, to pastor a dying church, they didn’t know that a gang had made the grounds of their church and home its headquarters. The Browns had bricks thrown through their windows, their fences set on fire, and their children threatened. The abuse continued for months; the police were unable to stop it.

The book of Nehemiah recounts how the Israelites rebuilt Jerusalem’s broken walls. When locals set out to “stir up trouble,” threatening them with violence (Nehemiah 4:8), the Israelites “prayed to . . . God and posted a guard” (v. 9). Feeling God used this passage to direct them, the Browns, their children, and a few others walked around their church’s walls, praying that He would install angels as guards to protect them. The gang jeered, but the next day, only half of them showed up. The day after that, only five were there, and the day after, no one came. The Browns later heard the gang had given up terrorizing people.

This miraculous answer to prayer isn’t a formula for our own protection, but it’s a reminder that opposition to God’s work will come and must be fought with the weapon of prayer. “Remember the Lord, who is great and awesome,” Nehemiah told the Israelites (v. 14). He can even set violent hearts free.

Reflect & Pray
What would you have done in the Browns’ situation? Who needs your prayers for deliverance today?

Awesome God, protect Your people by Your powerful angels, and set the hearts of Your enemies free. Amen.

God Is in Control

Scriptures: Job 12:1–25
“You people really know everything, don’t you? And when you die, wisdom will die with you!

Well, I know a few things myself— and you’re no better than I am. Who doesn’t know these things you’ve been saying?" (Job 12:2–3)
Frankly, I admire Job's guts. I'm pleased he doesn't cave in and say, "Well, maybe you're right, Zophar. You sound like those other two guys, so I'm not going to disagree and fight you on this." No way! The strong rebuke of Zophar is met by an even stronger resistance from Job. This, by the way, is the only way to deal with a legalist. They, too, are like roaches! You leave them alone and let them have their way, they proliferate. They attract others. And before you know it, the legalists take over. Bullying their way into leadership is their favorite approach. And if they can't bully, they take their ball and bat and go elsewhere (thank the Lord). They leave.

There was a time in my life when I allowed legalists to take more control of me than they should have been allowed. I'm making up for lost time now. Age has its benefits. I've learned the hard way, you need to fight fire with fire when bullies are determined to take charge. Job would have nothing to do with that! He put the stop to Zophar like Paul resisted the legalistic Judaizers and "did not yield in subjection to them for even an hour" (Galatians 2:5).

When Job finally does speak, he says, in effect, "Okay. That's enough." He stood up to them. I, for one, greatly admire Job for not sitting there any longer taking it on the chin.

Job declares, "It is all about our God! It is the inscrutable, Almighty God who is in charge of all things. Don't you think I know that?" And what a creative way to say it! "The God I serve takes delight in undoing human activities and in dismantling human enterprises, and in the process, executing His miraculous undertakings. He alone is in full control."

Job is making it clear that God alone is the One before whom he bows, and in doing so he implies, "I'm not sure you've ever met Him. Don't bully me. While I don't know why I'm suffering like this, I can tell you that somehow and in some way the God of heaven, the silent God, the One who seems to be absent from my perspective, is still in control."

Would you be able to say the same thing if you were in Job's situation?

๐ŸŒŸ Cultivating a Miracle-Producing Faith ๐ŸŒŸ

In our spiritual walk, one of the most profound quests we embark on is developing a faith so strong, it becomes the fertile ground from which miracles can sprout. But how do we nurture this kind of faith, the type that moves mountains and changes the course of our lives?

๐ŸŒฑ Start Small, Dream Big: Miraculous faith begins like a mustard seed – tiny, yet potent. Allow your faith to start small; let it be sincere and true, even if it's just a glimmer. Dream big and believe that your faith has the power to grow and manifest miracles.

๐Ÿ’ช Exercise Your Faith Muscle: Just like a muscle, faith strengthens with use. Exercise your faith through daily acts of trust in God’s plan, especially in challenging times. Every act of faith, no matter how small, builds resilience and fortitude.

๐Ÿ“– Immerse Yourself in the Word: The scriptures are replete with stories of faith and miracles. Immerse yourself in these stories. Let them inspire and increase your understanding of what faith can achieve.

๐Ÿ™ Persistent Prayer: Engage in persistent, heartfelt prayer. Communicate with God not just in times of need, but as a constant practice. Remember, prayer is the breath of faith.

๐Ÿ‘ฃ Follow Righteous Examples: Surround yourself with examples of strong faith. Whether it's biblical characters, historical figures, or people in your community, let their experiences guide and encourage you.

๐Ÿคฒ Be Open to Receive: Often, we ask for miracles, but our hearts are not fully open to receive them. Cultivate a heart that is ready to embrace the blessings and answers God provides, in whatever form they come.

๐ŸŒˆ Practice Gratitude: Recognize and give thanks for the miracles already present in your life, no matter how small they may seem. Gratitude opens your eyes to God's work and increases your faith.

Remember, faith capable of yielding miracles doesn’t happen overnight. It’s a journey of constant growth, unwavering trust, and steadfast commitment. Let's walk this path with hope and anticipation, ready to witness the wondrous ways in which our faith can move mountains.
