Let Go
Bible in a Year:
Proverbs 19–21
2 Corinthians 7
Be still, and know that I am God.

Today's Scripture & Insight:

Psalm 46
The owner of the bookstore where Keith worked had been away on vacation for only two days, but Keith, his assistant, was already panicking. Operations were smooth, but he was anxious that he wouldn’t do a good job overseeing the store. Frenetically, he micromanaged all he could.

“Stop it,” his boss finally told him over a video call. “All you have to do is follow the instructions I email you daily. Don’t worry, Keith. The burden isn’t on you; it’s on me.”

In a time of conflict with other nations, Israel received a similar word from God: “Be still” (Psalm 46:10). “Stop striving,” He said in essence, “just follow what I say. I will fight for you.” Israel was not being told to be passive or complacent but to be actively still—to obey God faithfully while yielding control of the situation and leaving the results of their efforts to Him.

We’re called to do the same. And we can do it because the God we trust is sovereign over the world. If “he lifts his voice [and] the earth melts,” and if He can make “wars cease to the ends of the earth” (vv. 6, 9), then surely, we can trust in the security of His refuge and strength (v. 1). The burden of control over our life isn’t on us—it’s on God.

Reflect & Pray
How can you let go of situations that are out of your control and surrender them to God? What aspects of His character help you to surrender all to Him?

Almighty God, You know what’s troubling me. I don’t know how to deal with it, but You do. Help me surrender to Your leading. Amen.

Peter Doocy Asks Jean-Pierre Powerful Question About Biden’s Handling Of Maui Wildfire Response
Tania Joy Gibson September 1, 2023 in Politics, TV, Viral - 2 Minutes
On Wednesday, Peter Doocy, a correspondent for Fox News asked Karine Jean-Pierre, White House press secretary, an explicit query concerning President Joe Biden’s reaction to Hurricane Idalia.

It appears that the president has actively taken part in disaster response efforts and has even gone so far as to declare his trust in Governor DeSantis without regard to political affiliations.

With this in mind, Doocy’s inquiry was meant to ascertain why Biden’s reaction to this natural calamity has been “robust” when compared with his refusal to comment on the Maui wildfires.

“Did you guys realize that the initial Hawaii wildfire response was not that good, or is it just easier for people to get help from the White House when the president is not on vacation?” Doocy asked, referring to Biden’s vacations to Rehoboth Beach and Lake Tahoe this month.

Doocy’s query elicited visible shock from the reporters in his vicinity, including NBC News’ Peter Alexander and the Wall Street Journal’s Annie Linskey.
Jean-Pierre was also not pleased.

“So, the premise of your question and the way you posed your question, I disagree, just for the record,” she said.

According to the press secretary, Doocy should speak with Hawaii officials, who will allegedly inform him that Biden “reacted in record time” to the Maui wildfires. The officials she cited, the state’s governor and U.S. senators, are Democrats.

“If you were to do your reporting and speak to the governor of Hawaii, the senators of Hawaii, the folks on the ground, they would say that the president reacted in record time when it came to dealing with the wildfires, when it came to dealing and making sure that they got everything that they need on the federal level to deal with what was going on on the ground,” she said.

“So, your question is wrong — it’s flawed in many, many ways,” she stated.
Interestingly, Jean-Pierre refrained from instructing Doocy to communicate with Maui residents, many of whom voiced their disapproval of Biden due to what they perceived as an inadequate response.
