Kansas Governor Killed Limits on Foreign Land Ownership

) – Restrictions on foreign ownership of land in Kansas have just been taken away after the governor vetoed a bill that would protect military bases from Chinese spying, according to Republicans.
Kansas House’s top GOP leader accused Gov. Laura Kelly of being apathetic toward serious national security threats. The bill would have prohibited more than ten percent ownership by foreign nationals of any non-residential property within 100 miles of any military installation.

A Kansas University report showed that Chinese ownership accounted for one acre of owned Kansas agricultural land. Companies owned over two percent of the state’s fifty million acres of private agricultural land. The bill that was expected to pass would make the university compile annual reports on all foreign real estate ownership.

Kelly stated during their veto speech that Kansas does need protections, but that the bill was so broad that it could disrupt “legitimate investment and business relationships.”

“I am not willing to sign a bill that has the potential to hurt the state’s future prosperity and economic development,” Kelly said.
Kansas exported over fourteen million dollars of product last year and China was their fourth largest trading partner during that time behind Japan, Canada, and Mexico.

The only mainstream outlet to cover the story at all was NBC News Now, on Tom Llamas’ show. Llamas didn’t hold back his condemnation, beginning his report by highlighting Adams’ comments about migrants making great lifeguards due to being “excellent swimmers.” He then questioned the factual basis for Adams’ statement, wondering if it was based on the migrants’ swim across the Rio Grande or the Florida Strait. Llamas also pointed out the lack of outrage over Adams’ remarks in a supposedly “progressive” city like New York.
During the report, Llamas interviewed a local migrant advocate who criticized Adams for his dual discourse when it comes to migrants, as well as his view that the migrant crisis will destroy New York City. Llamas echoed this sentiment, stating that Adams’ comment is incredibly racist and he is shocked and upset that there hasn’t been more outrage, especially in a city that claims to be progressive and inclusive.

Rep. Colin Allred is challenging the popular GOP Sen. Ted Cruz in the ongoing Senate race. But news has recently broken that the Democratic lawmaker attended an event during which so-called “know your rights cards” were given to illegal migrants. The campaign event was hosted by the Dallas County Democrat Party.
Information on the cards included certain tips for illegals to keep from being arrested, such as not opening the door to an immigration agent conducting a house call, refusing to answer the agent’s questions, and not signing anything before talking to an attorney.
