#Missouri Democrats filibustered for more than 11 hours to try and block the bill, which they say will hurt low-income and disabled patients. The legislation would make it financially difficult for #PlannedParenthood clinics in the state — which do not provide abortions — to provide health services for Medicaid recipients. The legislation would make it financially tenuous, if not impossible, for the state’s Planned Parenthood clinics to continue seeing patients on #Medicaid since the clinics would no longer be reimbursed for the cost of seeing these low-income patients. https://www.kcur.org/health/2024-04-10/missouri-senate-passes-bill-blocking-planned-parenthood-from-medicaid-reimbursements

Rosa Serrano, was convicted of Medicaid fraud in the state of Texas. Rosa was the owner and sole employee of a small company that made eyeglass lenses. She was accused of over-billing Medicaid, charged with fraud, and found guilty at trial. As you might imagine, there are cases like this across the United States every single day, and they are rarely noteworthy. But this case had it all: Jurors who couldn’t speak or understand English, ineffective attorneys, questionable jurisdiction, and an incompetent judge that just wanted to get the whole thing over with. On this episode of the Whistleblowers, John Kiriakou speaks with Rosa Serrano about her prison sentence and how she never stopped protesting her innocence.

Blackburn, Cassidy Reintroduce Legislation To Prevent Liberal States From Forcing Americans To Subsidize Free Health Care For Illegal Immigrants
January 16, 2024

NASHVILLE, TENN. – U.S. Senators Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) and Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-La.) introduced the Protect Medicaid Act to ensure the long-term integrity of Medicaid by preventing liberal states like California from forcing American citizens in other states to subsidize state programs that expand Medicaid benefits to illegal immigrants.

“Tennesseans and the American people do not want their tax dollars subsidizing Medicaid for illegal immigrants,” said Senator Blackburn. “Not only is it unfair to hardworking citizens, but it incentivizes more illegal immigration and puts the care of millions of Americans on the back burner.”

“Medicaid for migrants is a magnet for more illegal immigration,” said Dr. Cassidy. “This is terrible public policy for California citizens who depend on Medicaid, middle-class families paying taxes, and state debt. Taking care of the most vulnerable Americans should be our priority. Attempting to provide health care to everyone around the globe for free is not possible or feasible. Compassion that cannot be sustained is not compassion.”

BACKGROUND:

Federal law already bars illegal immigrants from receiving Medicaid, but states like California get around federal law by using state funds to extend Medicaid benefits to illegal immigrants.
The bill prohibits federal money from being spent on administering state Medicaid benefits paid for by American citizens to noncitizens.
If a state chooses to give Medicaid benefits to illegal residents, the bill ensures that state does so entirely on its own dime, without any costs to taxpayers in other states.

ADDITIONAL COSPONSORS

Senators Roger Wicker (R-Miss.), Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-Miss.), and John Barrasso (R-Wyo.) joined as cosponsors.
