Freedom of religion and separation of church and state are often used interchangeably, but they are distinct concepts. Freedom of religion refers to the right of individuals to worship as they choose, without fear of persecution or discrimination. Separation of church and state, on the other hand, refers to the idea that government and religious institutions should be kept separate to ensure that no religion receives preferential treatment. This means that government should not promote or endorse any particular religion, and religious institutions should not influence government decisions. While the two concepts are related, they have different implications for how religion is practiced and regulated in society.
