The State Department announced Sunday it will begin evacuating families and nonessential staff from the U.S. Embassy in Kyiv this week.

The State Department also upgraded its travel advisory for Ukraine to a level 4.

Oleg Nikolenko, spokesman for the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, criticized the U.S. move to withdraw diplomats' families, “We believe such a step to be a premature one and an instance of excessive caution."
