Ain't no riot like an NYPD riot!

You likely heard about the PS5 giveaway in NYC that sparked a riot and got Twitch streamer Kai Cenat hit with a "inciting a riot" charge a couple weeks ago, but did you know back in 1992, one of the biggest riots in NYC history was engaged in by unruly cops? They took over city hall, vandalized cars and property and drank openly in the streets, then they blocked the Brooklyn bridge. Police estimate there were at least 10,000 protesters who were upset because the NY mayor at the time refused to give the NYPD semi-automatic weapons and his proposal to create an independent civilian agency that would monitor police misconduct.

No arrests were reported (New York Times- 9/17/92)

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

Does this surprise you?
