On February 3rd, a train derailment in Ohio left a horrific environmental emergency emitting massive amounts of carcinogenic compounds into the air. The train, belonging to Norfolk Southern, one of America’s leading rail operators, derailed near the Pennsylvania border, outside the village of East Palestine. The crash created a 50-car. The majority of East Palestine has been evacuated as officials conduct a controlled burn of the threatening chemicals. Norfolk Southern railway happens to have a strong lobbying presence and has been trickling out preparedness grants to emergency response and non-profit organizations. This horrific disaster is receiving a concerning underwhelming amount of media coverage.

Monday, a train carrying hazardous materials in Montgomery County, Texas, was derailed after hitting a man on an 18-wheeler derailing a total of 15 cars. Then later the same day, a train derailed in Enoree, South Carolina. Investigations are continuing.
