⚠️ Common Food Additive May Damage Small Intestine and Promote Type 2 Diabetes A clinical study published Nov. 26 in BMC Medicine builds on growing evidence that carrageenan, a common additive in ultraprocessed foods, may damage the lining of the small intestine and the body’s ability to process blood sugar (insulin resistance). These harms can potentially lead to serious chronic conditions such as Crohn’s disease and increase the risk of Type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease — especially in people with higher body weight (BMI), the researchers say. THE SOLUTION: Choose minimally processed foods and read labels to help reduce exposure.
