A covid-19 infection during pregnancy means an increased risk for the pregnant woman to end up in the ICU or to have a premature birth and may involve a placental infection that adversely affects the baby. Vaccination against Covid-19 among pregnant women is generally safe. The Swedish healthcare system must become better at getting its message across and adapting information to today's needs.
Residual shoulder imbalance is associated with suboptimal outcomes following the surgical correction of adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) including poor patient satisfaction. In this retrospective study, we evaluate the radiographic parameters and the relationship between the global and local indices of spinal alignment with shoulder balance pre- and postoperatively utilizing EOS imaging and 3D reconstruction.
A retrospective radiographic analysis was performed on patients with AIS, treated with posterior spinal fusion. Postoperative radiographs were obtained immediately following surgery, at 6months and final follow-up over 2years postoperatively. 3D Radiographic measurements included in the coronal plane radiographic shoulder height difference (RSHD), proximal thoracic Cobb angle (PT) and main thoracic Cobb (MT), in the sagittal plane T4-T12 kyphosis, T12-L5 lordosis, in the axial plane proximal thoracic (PT AVR) and main thoracic apical vertebral rotation (MT AVR).
Sixty-six patients were included (63 females) with an average main thoracic curvature of 76 degrees. RSHD averaged 14mm ± 14 preoperatively, -15mm ± 12 postoperatively, -8.5mm ± 11 at 6months, and -8.3mm ± 8.7 at final follow-up, respectively. Statistical analysis revealed a significant correlation between RSHD and proximal thoracic Cobb angle, between RSHD and proximal thoracic apical vertebral rotation (PTAVR) (r > 0.20, p < 0.05).
The significant correlation presented in this study suggests that PT Cobb angle and PT AVR are involved in postoperative shoulder imbalance.

Level 4.Trematodes found in the enteropneust hemichordates are described for the first time. Metacercariae have been found in the trunk coelom, in the collar coelom, in the proboscis coelom, and in the glomerulus of the deep-sea torquaratorid Quatuoralisia malakhovi Ezhova et Lukinykh, 2022. This is the first find of parasites in the glomerulus of acorn worms. The taxonomy of the found trematodes is discussed. The seasonal dynamics and relationships between the characteristics of the angles of rotation of outer sapwood layers in trunks of Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris L.) trees growing in natural stands have been studied for two years in order to improve the understanding of the trunk twisting phenomenon and its role in the tree growth and morphogenesis. The trunk twisting phenomenon is observed in all trees during the entire vegetation period, and its characteristics do not depend on the exposition and differ in various trunk parts. The rotation angles and directions of rotation of the adjacent trunk parts are positively correlated with each other. The counterclockwise direction of rotation dominates, which provides an increase in the total rotation angle over time. The directions and values of the forces causing rotation of outer sapwood layers seem to be explained by the gradients of mechanical stresses appearing between neighboring xylem parts due to their nonuniform moisture content. The first study on the dynamics of virioplankton abundance (VA) in the coastal waters of the Moscow River in the autumn-winter period at stations differing in the level of anthropogenic impact has been performed. The VA in the waters of the more polluted Dzerzhinsky st. (with a mean of 235.6 ± 71.5 × 106 particles/mL, varying from 167.79 to 397.39 × 106 particles/mL) was higher than in the waters of the less polluted Tushino st. (with a mean value of 129.0 ± 39.6 × 106 particles/mL, varying from 61.01 to 186.85 × 106 particles/mL) throughout the study. Positive correlation was observed (R = 0.6, p less then 0.01) between the abundances of virio- and bacterioplankton in the waters of the Dzerzhinsky st. We assume that a significant proportion of the virioplankton of the coastal waters o of the Moscow River is represented by bacteriophages. Three quarters of the differences in the VA dynamics were significantly positively correlated with the content of ammonium and phosphates in the waters at the Dzerzhinsky st. Apparently, an increase in the nutrient load is the main factor responsible for the high VA in the waters of the Moscow River in the autumn-winter period. The dynamics of the taxonomic diversity of the birds of Cuba during the Late Pleistocene-Holocene is assessed for the first time using material from El Abrón Cave in the western part of the island. The Upper Pleistocene beds of the locality are characterized by a rich taxonomic diversity of birds, including an abundance of waterbirds and open-landscape inhabitants. For the Holocene, a general decrease in taxonomic diversity and a significant increase in the number of remains belonging to representatives of forest faunas (Picidae) are recorded. Our data indicate a significant transformation of landscapes of western Cuba and the faunistic associations of birds at the end of the Quaternary, which is consistent with paleoclimatic data. The microwear of the non-occlusal surface of incisors (I1, I2) of the small cave bear (Ursus ex gr. savini-rossicus) and Ural cave bear (Ursus kanivetz) from the Pleistocene of the Middle and South Urals is analyzed and compared. Qualitative characteristics of incisor microwear have been shown to be different in these species. In the small cave bear, coarser lesions on the non-occlusal surface of the incisors are observed. Considering the specificity of microwear of non-occlusal tooth surfaces, the data obtained suggest differences in trophic specialization of the species. studied.Androgen insensitivity syndrome (AIS) is a rare X-linked genetic disorder caused by mutations in the androgen receptor (AR) gene. AIS can be divided into partial type (PAIS), mild type (MAIS), and complete type (CAIS) based on the degree of androgen insensitivity. CAIS is characterized by a male genotype and a complete female phenotype. A 10-year-old child presented with a bilateral inguinal mass for 9 years. Physical examination revealed a complete feminine genital appearance and a painless mass in bilateral inguinal area. Pelvic magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) revealed long T1 and T2 elliptic signal nodules in bilateral inguinal area, absence of uterus-ovary signal and a short blind end of the vagina. Chromosomal analyzes manifested a 46, XY karyotype. By analyzing the above clinical data, the preliminary diagnosis of CAIS was confirmed. Then laparoscopic bilateral gonadectomy was performed. The histological examination of resected gonad showed it consisted of dysplastic testicular tissue and no signs of malignancy were observed. Sanger sequencing revealed the presence of a hemizygous mutation c.927 T > G (p. Tyr309*) in exon 1 of the AR gene. This is the first report of a novel nonsense mutation.Monitoring in remote areas can represent a real challenge in environmental studies. Numerous techniques have been developed over the last decades to monitor nutrients and other elements in different systems. However, not all of them are suitable for field applications, particularly when the locations are difficult to access or its accessibility depends on seasonal climate conditions. This study was aimed to test the applicability and efficiency of resin samplers and resin bags to monitor nitrates fluxes (NO3-N) in two small semi-arid catchments in Northwestern Mexico. Resin samplers were installed in the hyporheic zone below the river bed in order to monitor the vertical fluxes of NO3-N and remained there for 5 months (during the summer rains). Resin bags were anchored in rock outcrops upstream of the resin samplers before the onset of the summer rainfall season and replaced every 2 weeks during 4 months to capture pulses of NO3-N in ephemeral streams. NO3-N pulses in the stream are a potential source of NO3-N that can infiltrate into the soil. Results of the resin samplers found a difference of up to 12 kg ha-1 season-1 between the two catchments. The resin bags showed a higher accumulation of NO3-N in the catchment with lower vegetation cover (160.3 mg L-1 season-1) compared to the one with higher vegetation (67.8 mg L-1 season-1). Measured nitrate fluxes at both sites responded to rainfall pulses recorded during the monitoring period. Resin samplers and resin bags can be used together, to assess nutrient fluxes on the surface and in the soil and can be tested in any type of ecosystem. In this particular case, these methods demonstrated an efficient way of determining spatio-temporal nitrate fluxes in semi-arid ecosystems in remote areas that are difficult to access, monitor, and collect data. There is a demand for scientists trained in quantitative systems pharmacology (QSP) that has yet to be met by changes in graduate education. The multidisciplinary nature of QSP is not unlike its predecessor, pharmacokinetics (PKs) and pharmacodynamics (PDs) that have now become firmly established in many educational programs. A hindrance to the evolution of educational programs for QSP is explored and suggestions to move QSP into its proper position as a unique discipline are presented. The dramatic convergence of molecular biology, genomics, proteomics, metabolomics, bioinformatics, and artificial intelligence has provided a substrate for deep understanding of the biological basis of health and disease. Systems biology is a holistic, dynamic, integrative, cross-disciplinary approach to biological complexity that embraces experimentation, technology, computation, and clinical translation. Systems Medicine integrates genome analyses and longitudinal deep phenotyping with biological pathways and networks to understand mechanisms of disease, identify relevant blood biomarkers, define druggable molecular targets, and enhance the maintenance or restoration of wellness. Two programs initiated our understanding of data-driven population-based wellness. The Pioneer 100 Study of Scientific Wellness and the much larger Arivale commercial program that followed had two spectacular results demonstrating the feasibility and utility of collecting longitudinal multiomic data, and then generating dense, dynamic data clouds for each individual to utilize actionable metrics for promoting health and preventing disease when combined with personalized coaching. Future developments in these domains will enable better population health and personal, preventive, predictive, participatory (P4) health care. This chapter describes the role of regulatory medical product review in furthering precision medicine.
