Ford, GM, and Stellantis have announced they will cease manufacturing in key Canadian facilities, citing supply chain disruptions caused by the convoy of semi-trucks parked along the American border, in protest to increasingly draconian COVID-19 restrictions. The truckers are blocking the Ambassador Bridge that connects Detroit, Michigan to Windsor, Ontario. The famous bridge carries 25% of all trade between the countries. All three major US auto manufacturers have also now joined Toyota and Honda in cancelling shifts and reducing capacity at key American locations. As a result, the U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas and Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg urged their Canadian counterparts "to use federal powers to resolve this situation at our joint border," a White House official said on Thursday.
