Line-up

Turn Back, the band's third studio album it was a return to a classic sextet format, and a more consistent, stronger effort that had a more grittier edge. The more edgy sound of the album reflected the maturation of the group and included drummer Bobby Kimball's improved virtuosity on drums, and a more confident, mature vocal delivery from singer Joseph Williams. David Paich's keyboard skills were also more sophisticated, sharper, and less derivative on previous recordings.

After touring to promote their album, the band recorded the band's Amsterdam live performance which was released on Eagle Records as a 2-CD set titled Falling In Between. The group released a new studio album just a few months after and then embarked on a tour around the world to promote the album. During this period, keyboardist Greg Phillinganes replaced Paich and bassist David Hungate quit the group to spend time with his family.

In 1998, Paich & Lukather began exploring old tapes and demos to find songs that hadn't been recorded before. The album was released in 2001 and released as a double album titled Then & Now. By 2003, Toto had begun to decline in popularity.
