GreenPower Motor Company produces a full line of high-floor as well as low-floor all-electric medium and heavy-duty vehicles. Their flagship vehicle is the EV Star Cab & Chassis platform, which can accommodate various body designs and upgrades for a variety of applications. The platform's design is based on a simple paper that allows for optimum positioning of the battery pack and a lower center-of-gravity. This results in higher range/payload ratios.
The EV Star REEFERX was designed for mid-to-last mile refrigerated deliveries as well as catering applications. The class 4 refrigerated truck's one wall structure in the interior and higher insulation than traditional trucks allows for seamless sanitation, improved temperature control, and a longer life. The EV Star REEFERX offers superior cargo capacity and a payload that is industry-leading to reach the range of zero-emission transport of passengers or goods.
GreenPower has collaborated with Perrone Robotics to up-fit the EV Star with their TONY (To Navigate You) autonomous vehicle system. This will allow fleets to easily change to autonomous vehicles. The AV Star can also be wirelessly charging up to 75 kW.
We were capable of testing the EV9 on the local highway for a few hours. We found it to be easy to drive and comfortable to drive for long distances. The ride is smooth on bumps and ruts, while the EV9 is a master of reducing road noise and wind on the highway. The acceleration of the vehicle is astonishingly quick, and it has adjustable regenerative brakes to enable "one-pedal driving" simply by taking off the accelerator.
The EV9 offers a great range and can be charged in just three hours or less at home, or using any commercial charger. Drivers can choose between two operating modes: eco mode and sports mode. The eco mode is a preference for the cruise control and torque while the sport mode is designed to maximize speed and handling. Both modes are fun to drive, and offer a unique experience for those who haven't experienced driving an electric vehicle before.
In addition to the EV9, GreenPower has several other electric vehicles, including a multi-purpose electric minibus called the EV Star. The EV Star is ADA-compliant and can be used as executive shuttles, microtransit and transit buses, vanpools, or paratransit vehicles.
GreenPower produces approximately 10 EV Star buses per month for the Jacksonville Transit Authority. The Jacksonville Transit Authority is replacing their fleet of diesel vehicles with 100 all-electric cars. With the Biden Administration planning to electrify school buses across the country, GreenPower plans on ramping up production to meet demand. Their EV Star bus is the first of its kind to be tested in Altoona and FMVSS-certified, Buy America compliant and ADA conforming. They will be eligible for federal transit grants. We will be following the AV Star as it makes its demonstration tour the coming months. We will be sure to share more details on this amazing electric vehicle!
