Many compartments, specifically the BA compartment from all trips, exceeded the vertical ELV. Regardless of where the data were collected, fewer compartments exceeded the EAV in the horizontal orientation. Only BA compartments exceeded the ELV in the horizontal orientation. There were Area × Level interactions for vertical and horizontal RMS and VDV (P 0.19). Vibration analyses indicated the BA compartment had the greatest vertical and horizontal vibrations and a large percentage of the compartments exceed the EAV and ELV, which indicated pigs may have experienced uncomfortable trips that could cause discomfort or fatigue.Water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) are essential for the control and elimination of neglected tropical diseases (NTDs). Several critical factors need to be considered to avoid undermining progress toward disease elimination and control targets, while merging program components into national systems.The history of the neglected tropical disease movement is seen through the lens of authors who worked during the last 4 decades in different roles and in different settings, from Western-based laboratories to clinical roles in endemic countries and in critical policy roles in the World Health Organization (WHO). The authors seek to identify key players from the introduction of the word 'neglected' by the late Kenneth Warren in his Rockefeller Foundation-supported Great Neglected Diseases of Mankind movement through to the more recent developments after the London Declaration of 2012. The role of the various actors-endemic countries, major pharmaceutical companies, the WHO, non-government development organizations, bilateral donors and academia-are discussed. The critical events and decisions are highlighted that were essential enabling factors in creating a viable and successful movement and with a resultant massive global public health and antipoverty impact. The importance of advocacy is emphasized in creating the momentum to establish a globally recognized public health 'brand' as a target in the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.Neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) are a diverse group of diseases that continue to affect >1 billion people, with these diseases disproportionately impacting vulnerable populations and territories. Climate change is having an increasing impact on public health in tropical and subtropical areas and across the world and can affect disease distribution and transmission in potentially diverse ways. Improving our understanding of how climate change influences NTDs can help identify populations at risk to include in future public health interventions. Articles were identified by searching electronic databases for reports of climate change and NTDs between 1 January 2010 and 1 March 2020. Climate change may influence the emergence and re-emergence of multiple NTDs, particularly those that involve a vector or intermediate host for transmission. Although specific predictions are conflicting depending on the geographic area, the type of NTD and associated vectors and hosts, it is anticipated that multiple NTDs will have changes in their transmission period and geographic range and will likely encroach on regions and populations that have been previously unaffected. There is a need for improved surveillance and monitoring to identify areas of NTD incursion and emergence and include these in future public health interventions.The 2021-2030 Neglected Tropical Diseases road map calls for intensified cross-cutting approaches. By moving away from vertical programming, the integration of platforms and intervention delivery aims to improve efficiency, cost-effectiveness and programme coverage. Fresh produce-borne enteric bacterial pathogens that are resistant to antibiotics have posed serious challenges to food safety and public health worldwide. This study was conducted to evaluate the antibiotic resistance profiles of Salmonella enterica isolates (n = 33) recovered from exotic and indigenous leafy green vegetable samples (n = 328) collected from 50 vegetable farms in 12 farming areas and 37 vegetable sellers in four market centers in Accra, Ghana, from March 2016 to March 2017 and to determine the distribution of integrons among antibiotic-resistant isolates. The susceptibility of the Salmonella isolates to 12 antibiotics was assayed with the standard disk diffusion assay. The MICs of the five most resisted antibiotics were determined with a twofold macrodilution method. A PCR assay was used to detect the presence of integrons in Salmonella isolates, and PCR products with the amplified integron gene cassette were purified and sequenced with the Sanger sequencing technology. The Salmonella isolates used in the study were resistant to at least one tested antibiotic, and 30.3% (10 of 33) of the isolates were multidrug resistant. Most isolates (81.8%) were resistant to sulfisoxazole. The MICs of tetracycline, cefoxitin, streptomycin, ampicillin, and sulfisoxazole were 16, 32, 64, 64, and >1,024 μg/mL, respectively. Five patterns of multidrug resistance were observed among the Salmonella isolates, and the most common patterns were AAuFox (30.3%) and AAuFoxSSu (18.1%). One (3.0%) of the 33 Salmonella isolates tested positive for the class 1 integron, with a gene cassette of about 800 bp. Nucleotide sequencing revealed that this class 1 integron carried a single gene, dfrA7. Further studies are needed to determine whether the consumption of contaminated leafy green vegetables is a route for acquiring antibiotic-resistant Salmonella in Accra, Ghana.
