Our findings show that the main factors encouraging walking and cycling among car and PT users are similar, however, the individual characteristics that determine the choice of these factors vary significantly.Despite the lack of evidence that bronchodilators, corticosteroids, and antibiotics are useful in treating bronchiolitis, their use is still widespread. This study aimed to determine the consumption of antibiotics for bronchiolitis before and after a procalcitonin-guided clinical pathway (CP) implementation. In December 2019, a CP for lower respiratory tract infection management was implemented at the Department of Women's and Children's Health at Padua University Hospital. This was a pre-post, quasi-experimental study that assessed the changes in the treatment of bronchiolitis during two bimesters preceding the CP implementation (pre-period January 2018-February 2018 and January 2019-February 2019) and during the bimester after CP implementation (post-period January 2020-February 2020). After the CP implementation, there was a significant reduction in antibiotic prescriptions from 36.2% to 12.5% (p = 0.036) in patients hospitalized for bronchiolitis. Co-amoxiclav treatment, the antibiotic most commonly administered, decreased from 66.6% to 33.3%. Among outpatients' bronchiolitis episodes, a statistically significant decrease in beta2-agonists' use (from 18.0% to 4.4%, pre and post periods) and a quasi-significant decrease in corticosteroid use (from 8.0% to 0% pre and post periods) were observed. An evidence-based CP supported by educational lectures was associated with significant changes in the physicians' prescribing habits.Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are the most frequent hospital infections and among the most commonly observed community acquired infections. To address the need for real-time measurement of salinity in water flooding solutions during oilfield water injection, a salinity measurement system that can withstand a high temperature environment was designed. In terms of the polarization and capacitance effects, the system uses an integrator circuit to collect information and fuzzy control to switch gears to expand the range. Experimental results show that the system can operate stably in a high-temperature environment, with an accuracy of 0.6% and an uncertainty of 0.2% in the measurement range of 1-10 g/L.Considerable debate exists on whether exposure to vegetation cover is associated with better mental health outcomes. Past studies could not accurately capture people's exposure to surrounding vegetation and heavily relied on non-spatial models, where the spatial autocorrelation and latent covariates could not be adjusted. Therefore, a suite of five different vegetation measures was used to separately analyze the association between vegetation cover and the number of psychotic and non-psychotic disorder cases in the neighborhoods of Toronto, Canada. Three satellite-based and two area-based vegetation measures were used to analyze these associations using Poisson lognormal models under a Bayesian framework. Healthy vegetation cover was found to be negatively associated with both psychotic and non-psychotic disorders. Results suggest that the satellite-based indices, which can measure both the density and health of vegetation cover and are also adjusted for urban and environmental perturbations, could be better alternatives to simple ratio- and area-based measures for understanding the effect of vegetation on mental health. A strong dominance of spatially structured latent covariates was found in the models, highlighting the importance of adopting a spatial approach. This study can provide critical guidelines for selecting appropriate vegetation measures and developing spatial models for future population-based epidemiological research.Cognitive radio (CR), as a concept based on the ability to detect and share the unutilised spectrum, has been envisioned as a promising candidate to improve the efficiency of frequency spectrum assignments. For the realisation of the CR concept, energy detection (ED), as one of the available spectrum sensing methods, is broadly considered because of its low computational complexity and implementation costs. Due to the vast usage of the orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) technique in contemporary communication systems, the ED of OFDM signals in the CR networks has become important for practical realisation. Since the ED accuracy of the OFDM signals can be improved by the sensing threshold adaptation, this paper surveys the impact of noise variations and dynamic threshold (DT) adaptation on the ED performance of OFDM signals. Analyses were performed by the simulation of the ED related to OFDM signals transmitted in the margin or rate adaptive and combined margin and rate adaptive OFDM systems. The results obtained through extensive simulations provide fundamental insights into how different factors, including the transmission power, the signal to noise ratio, the false alarm probability and the sample quantity, affect the ED efficiency.
