The Band Toto Asia

Toto was expanding its production facilities abroad, and doing business in France and Germany, Indonesia, Korea and Taiwan, Thailand and the People's Republic of China. Dhaniram Toto recorded Toto words so that the next generation could read them. Many words were replaced by foreign ones. For example dui, which is Bengali for verandah, was used.

Origins

Toto's early history which began in 1917, was a reflection of Japan's economic growth. In the beginning, Toto produced products to meet the growing demand for modern, contemporary urban housing. To achieve this, it used the first tunnel kiln in the nation to make ceramics in a continuous flow. It also pioneered the use of automation for production control, which allows for greater efficiency and a more consistent production.

In the late 1980s the company began expanding overseas to profit from sales and new markets. The company established the Cera Trading Company to import and distribute other products from other manufacturers to complement its own range of sanitary earthenwares and plumbing fittings. This strategy increased sales and expanded the market share of the company globally.

In the 1990s, Toto had shifted its emphasis to research and development of household appliances that are water-related. It also upgraded its distribution system to better serve the needs of its customers and to increase profits. The company used the same just-in time approach in its supply chain management as well as sales program. This led to a higher level customer satisfaction.

Toto has continued to innovate with regard to toilet technology. Its latest toilet, for example, has an extremely powerful tornado flush that is more ecologically friendly than traditional toilets. The company makes use of recycled water in its manufacturing process and has a green purchasing policy. Toto also produces bathtubs, faucets, and hand dryers with greater energy efficiency than typical models.

The first museum of the company was opened in the year 2015 It has exhibits on Toto's seminal products and their development and its group companies (all related to ceramics) as well as the historical background of plumbing and products such as bath units and, in a different gallery, Toto products sold around the world. The museum also includes a bathroom with a WASHLET toilet and other toilet-related innovations.

Before the formation of Toto members of the group did session work for various musicians. Keyboardist David Paich, drummer Jeff Porcaro and guitarists Mike Porcaro and Steve Lukather all played on the album Silk Degrees by Boz Scaggs. They also performed on albums by Steely Dan, Seals and Crofts, and Sonny and Cher.
