Of 160 patients, 21 had taken at least one herbal remedy and six of these developed an ADR. Five ADR-drug associations (hypokalaemia with methylprednisolone, increased transaminase levels with standard antituberculosis drugs, upper gastrointestinal bleeding with nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, constipation with tramadol, and increased transaminase levels with herbal remedies) represented 18 (27.7%) of the 65 ADRs in this study. According to the Schumock and Thornton preventability scale, more than half of these ADRs (35 [53.9%]) were preventable. CONCLUSION The present study highlights the existence of ADRs among patients attending these hospitals. The implementation of active pharmacovigilance in hospitals could be a helpful first step to improving the awareness of unwanted effects of medicines and patient safety, as well as a way to strengthen the national pharmacovigilance system in countries such as Myanmar.Przewalski's gazelle (Procapra przewalskii) is an endangered ungulate in the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau of China. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/a-83-01.html This study aimed to determine the influence of selenium (Se) deprivation in the natural habitat on the immune index and antioxidant capacity of P. przewalskii. Samples of soil and forage were collected from affected and healthy areas, and animal tissues were collected from affected and healthy P. przewalskii. The samples were used for measuring mineral content and for hematological and biochemical analyses. The results showed that Se concentrations were significantly lower in the soil and mixed forage samples from the affected area than in those from the healthy area. The Se concentrations were significantly lower in blood and hair samples from affected P. przewalskii than in those from healthy P. przewalskii. Meanwhile, hemoglobin, packed cell volume, and platelet count of affected P. przewalskii were significantly lower than those of healthy P. przewalskii. The serum level of glutathione peroxidase and total antioxidant capacity were significantly lower and the serum levels of malondialdehyde, total nitric oxide synthase, and lipid peroxide were significantly higher in affected P. przewalskii. The serum levels of interleukin (IL)-1β, IL-2, tumor necrosis factor-alpha, immunoglobulin A (IgA), and IgG significantly decreased and the serum levels of IL-6 and IgM significantly reduced in affected P. przewalskii compared with healthy P. przewalskii. Therefore, the findings indicated that Se deprivation in soil and forage caused oxidative stress damage and posed a serious threat to the immune function of P. przewalskii.Cancer cell proliferation and apoptosis are induced by overload Ca2+ entry. Transient receptor potential vanilloid 1 (TRPV1) as a Ca2+ permeable cation channel is activated by capsaicin and reactive oxygen species (ROS), although it is blocked by capsazepine and sodium selenite (Na-Se). Bisphenol A (BPA) induces estrogenic action and further stimulates the proliferation of estrogen receptor positive MCF-7 cell through excessive production ROS and Ca2+ influx. However, whether or not Na-Se can influence BPA-induced oxidative stress and apoptosis through modulation of TRPV1 in breast cancer cells has not drawn much attention. The MCF-7 and MDA-MB-231 breast cancer cells were divided into four treatment groups as control, Na-Se (1 μM for 2 h), and BPA (0.1 mM for 24 h) and BPA + Na-Se. The Na-Se reduced BPA-induced increase of cell number, mitochondria oxidative stress, and TRPV1 channel activity modulation of MCF-7 cells, which was proved by the suppression of cell viability, excessive ROS production, mitochondrial membrane depolarization, lipid peroxidation, early apoptosis (Annexin-V), late apoptosis (propidium iodide) and upregulation of reduced glutathione, glutathione peroxidase, and cell death (propidium iodide/Hoechst rate). The similar effects of Na-Se were observed in the MCF-7 cells by capsazepine treatment. However, the effects of BPA were not observed in the MDA-MB-231 breast cancer cells. In conclusion, cell proliferative and oxidant effects of BPA were increased by activation of TRPV1, but its action on the values was decreased by the Na-Se treatment. The results may be a good set of preliminary data for designing animal studies on estrogenic effect of bisphenol A and antiestrogenic of selenium.Mersin Coast plays a quite important role in terms of biodiversity and productivity of the Mediterranean marine ecosystem. However, many effects such as industrial, urban, touristic, and agricultural factors cause pollution in this region as in many other coasts. Therefore, this study aims to discuss the potential risks and benefits of the consumption of bogue fish (Boops boops, Linnaeus, 1758) collected from the North-Eastern Mediterranean in terms of fatty acid and metal levels. The results showed that PUFA for winter and spring and SFA for summer and autumn as the predominant fractions were determined. ∑PUFA/∑SFA ratio was higher than the recommended value for each season. In addition, DHA was higher than EPA for all seasons. Nutritional and health values of lipids are maintained throughout a year, except for winter. The concentration of metal levels in the tested muscle was within the permissible limit of the world levels. Fortunately, the calculated estimated weekly intakes of metals (EWIs) were much lower than the provisional tolerable weekly intake (PTWI) for all seasons. Thus, human health risks resulting from the consumption of this fish species from Mersin Bay are unremarkable because fish muscles are not active tissues for metal accumulation. Besides, the target hazard quotient (THQ) and the total target hazard quotient (TTHQ) were less then  1, indicating that there is no potential health risk for the consumers. Benefit/risk ratios for all seasons were calculated and found to be HQEFA  less then  1. It was determined that the cancer risk for consumers is quite low, except for heavy consumption cases. As a goal of the study, important information about the effects of seasons on the changes in lipid quality and metal properties of bogue fish was provided and discussed in detailed.
