Chicago Police Officer Shot Dead in Carjacking

(TargetDailyNews.com) – Officer Luis Huesca, 30, was killed recently during a suspected carjacking while on his way home from work. No suspects have been arrested yet in connection with his murder. Huesca was off duty, in uniform, and heading home around 3 a.m. on April 21st when a shot-spotter alert indicated dozens of gunshots near the 3100 block of West 56th Street, according to Chicago police.
Police found Huesca and rushed him to the University of Chicago Medical Center where he died from his wounds. He was just two days away from his 31st birthday.

A post on X by Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker was lambasted by critical commentary after the governor seemingly ignored the violent circumstances of his death. Pritzker called it “a terrible loss” but referred to the assassination as “the death” and “passing” of Officer Huesca. Commenters were quick to remind him of the violent circumstances.
Chicago police released a surveillance video that shows a black male suspect they’re seeking in connection with the killing. Chicago Police Superintendent Larry Snelling didn’t say whether they believe Huesca was targeted due to his uniform or because the perpetrator wanted to steal his car. He did explain that the vehicle was stolen and found later. Huesca’s gun and badge are also still missing.
Snelling told the department that he was focused on apprehending the suspect involved and achieving justice.

George Washington University law professor Jonathan Turley expressed disbelief at the opening statements of the trial led by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg. Turley, along with many others, were stunned that the trial was even taking place, let alone the serious accusations brought forth against former President Donald Trump. The trial revolves around a 34-count indictment accusing Trump of falsifying business records in an effort to cover up an alleged hush money payment to former porn actress Stormy Daniels. Trump’s former lawyer, Michael Cohen, is accused of paying Daniels $130,000 to keep an alleged extramarital affair with Trump secret just before the 2016 presidential election.

Turley pointed out that Trump may have a valid point in this case. He remarked that the fact that this case is being presented in a New York courtroom is an embarrassment. He also brought attention to the fact that the case involves a misdemeanor that has long since expired, but has been resurrected with a new campaign finance violation allegation that does not hold up under Federal Law. Turley also mentioned that the Department of Justice does not see this as a valid case. Turley went on to compare these allegations to those against former Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton. Clinton’s campaign had funded the Steele Dossier, which accused the Trump campaign of colluding with Russia to win the 2016 election. Turley questioned the objectivity of those who supported this case, given their previous support for a similar questionable theory.

Commentator Fox News’ John Roberts noted that Michael Colangelo, a former U.S. Associate Attorney General under President Joe Biden, is a prosecutor in Bragg’s office. Turley saw this as further evidence that the case against Trump is coordinated and biased. He noted that any other court would have raised concerns about having a former Biden Justice Department attorney lead this case, but in New York, the only thing that seems to matter is the name of the defendant, Donald Trump.
During his opening statement, Colangelo called Trump’s actions a “long-running conspiracy” to influence the 2016 election. He accused Trump of orchestrating a criminal scheme and then covering it up by falsifying New York business records. This was followed by statements from defense attorney Todd Blanche, who maintained that Trump is innocent of all charges and that the case should not have been brought forth by the Manhattan district attorney’s office.

Over the past few weeks, pro-Palestinian activists, fueled by foreign and domestic influences, have launched violent and aggressive demonstrations against Israel’s defense of itself and its citizens. These protests have not only targeted the country but also its people, and the vitriol being spewed is specifically aimed at Jews. Reports have surfaced of Jewish students being verbally and physically attacked, with one graduate student at Columbia University claiming she was called a “Zionist b****” and a “genocidal b****” simply for wearing an Israeli flag.

This is not a new phenomenon. Anti-Semitism has been present for centuries, and its ugly head is now making itself known on the streets of America. It is not just Israelis or Jews who are being targeted, but anyone who supports them. Even a simple walk down the street can result in physical and verbal assaults for those showing any support for Israel. And yet, while the situation continues to escalate, Democratic officials like New York Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez have the audacity to applaud these “peaceful protests.”

During an Earth Day event with President Joe Biden, Ocasio-Cortez praised the student-led protests on campuses like Columbia, Yale, and Berkeley, claiming they are shaping the country.
But in reality, these protests are anything but peaceful. As the ugliness continues to spread, Columbia announced that classes would be hybrid for the rest of the semester due to safety concerns. This is a clear acknowledgment of the unsafe nature of these protests and the danger they pose to Jewish students.

During Tuesday’s interview on CNN, while right-wing contributor Jonah Goldberg was criticize the anti-Semitic, pro-Hamas language used by extreme left protesters on college campuses, New York Times reporter Lulu Garcia-Navarro surprisingly came in to cut him off and even defended the protestors’ actions against police.
Host Kasie Hunt opened by interviewing Congressman Josh Gottheimer, a moderate Jewish Democrat from New Jersey about his recent visit to Columbia University. Gottheimer expressed his serious concern for Jewish students’ safety and even calling for the university administration to take further action. Then, Goldberg was asked to join in on the discussion.
Goldberg, a known conservative contributor on both CNN and Fox News, expressed his condemnation towards the anti-Semitic rhetoric used by far-left protestors on college campuses. In response, Garcia-Navarro immediately cut in and argued against the use of police against anti-Israel protesters.

She interrupted Goldberg mid-sentence, saying, “Excuse me, I’m so sorry.” When he continued, she spoke over him, exclaiming, “I’m sorry, but everyone –” trying to share her opposing view.
Goldberg, taken back by her interruption, continued, “If you are celebrating Hamas, you are pro-terrorist.” Garcia-Navarro responded by saying she was “not disputing” his statement. However, she then spun for left-wing student organizers by pointing out that not all Jewish students support Israel’s actions. She then went on to say, “there are selective quotes that are being taken not from students themselves – in the encampments in Columbia, they have said this – there are Jewish students who are actually part of this.”
