A tweet from the CDC Wednesday has many people concerned that their DNA was harvested without consent. According to the CDC, if you took a PCR test there's a 10% chance that your DNA was stored to sent to a lab for genomic sequencing analysis. Epidemiology and Nutrition professor at Harvard Albert Aschetio said, "The PCR test generally do not sequence the full genome but only selected segments/genes that are more relevant to distinguish the most common variants. Full sequencing is however possible and it is done for research purposes to identify the relation between different variants and the appearance of new variance." Ascherio added, "there is no need to test human DNA, but of course, it will be on the swab so it could be tested, which is probably what people may worry about if they are in a conspiracy mood."
