Background Lifestyle wellness programs help prevent and manage chronic diseases, yet few are designed for aging adults. Purpose Identify characteristics associated with aging adults' preferences for wellness program activities and delivery characteristics. Subjects/methods Cross-sectional, self-administered survey of a convenience sample of 386 adults aged ≥55 years. Logistic regression models identified characteristics influencing preferences. Results Current healthy behaviors, gender, and age influenced many preferences, while BMI, multiple chronic conditions, self-rated general health status, and quality of life did not. Discussion Incorporating aging adults' preferences for wellness programs will help design appealing and engaging programs. In a cross-society comparison, we assessed the state of mothers' knowledge of child rearing and child development. The study included 1,077 mothers from five countries on four continents Argentina, Belgium, Italy, South Korea, and the United States. A criteria-referenced instrument, the Knowledge of Infant Development Inventory, was used to assess parenting knowledge after being adapted for cross-society comparison using item response theory and the alignment optimization approach for testing between-sample measurement invariance. Levels of mothers' parenting knowledge varied across the five societies and were associated with different sociodemographic factors and personal and non-personal supports.A method has been developed for the addition of benzylboronic acid pinacol ester to activated ketones including trifluoromethyl ketones in good yields. The use of DABCO as an additive was found to enhance the rate and efficiency of this reaction. In reactions of ketones with a second carbonyl group present such as an ester or amide, good chemoselectivity for the ketone was observed. Competition experiments suggest an electrophile relative reactivity order of CF2H ketone > CF3 ketone > aldehyde under these reaction conditions.Suisun Marsh (Solano County, California) is the largest contiguous marsh remaining on the West Coast of the United States, and makes up approximately 10% of the wetlands remaining in the San Francisco Estuary. Suisun Marsh has been safeguarded from development through the operation of over 100 privately owned waterfowl hunting clubs, which manage for diked waterfowl habitat. However, this management-and the subsequent loss of tidal influence-has been considered harmful for some species, including the endangered salt marsh harvest mouse (SMHM; Reithrodontomys raviventris). To determine the value of tidal wetlands relative to those managed for waterfowl, we performed periodic surveys for rodents in managed and tidal wetlands over 5 years, and used capture-mark-recapture analyses to estimate demographic parameters and abundance for the three most common rodents-the northern SMHM (R. r. halicoetes), the western harvest mouse (a sympatric native species; R. megalotis, WHM), and the house mouse (a sympatric invasivican Society of Mammalogists.Gray seals were historically distributed along the northeastern coast of the United States, but bounties and lack of protection reduced numbers and they were rarely observed for most of the 20th century. Once protections were enacted, the population started to rebound. Here, we describe the recolonization and recovery of gray seals in the United States, focusing on the re-establishment of pupping sites. We fit individual generalized linear models to various time series (1988-2019) to estimate rates of increase in observed pup counts at four of the more data-rich sites. Annual rate of increase at individual sites ranged from -0.2% (95% CI -2.3-1.9%) to 26.3% (95% CI 21.6-31.4%). The increase in sites and number of pups born in the United States is driven by population growth and immigration from Canadian colonies and is part of a larger recovery of the Northwest Atlantic population. Wildlife protection, a healthy source population, habitat availability, and species traits that allow for dispersal and high productivity were all important factors in this recovery. © The Author(s) 2019. The gyrotron is designed at the second harmonic (ω = 2ω c) of the electron cyclotron frequency. It produces up to 9.3 W continuous microwave (CW) power at 527.2 GHz frequency using a diode type electron gun operating at V = 16.65 kV, Ib = 110 mA in a TE11,2,1 mode, corresponding to an efficiency of ~0.5%. The gyrotron is tunable within ~ 0.4 GHz by combining voltage and magnetic field tuning. The gyrotron has an internal mode converter that produces a Gaussian-like beam that couples to the HE11 mode of an internal 12 mm i.d. corrugated waveguide periscope assembly leading up to the output window. An external corrugated waveguide transmission line system is built including a corrugated taper from 12 mm to 16 mm i.d. waveguide followed by 3 m of the 16 mm i.d. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/Adrucil(Fluorouracil).html waveguide The microwave beam profile is measured using a pyroelectric camera showing ~ 84% HE11 mode content. Objective The restorative treatment of a decayed, non-vital upper premolar often requires an interdisciplinary approach. Esthetics and the entity of the masticatory loads are usually affecting the choice of procedures and materials. A conservative treatment in a case with esthetic needs and functional requirements is investigated in this case report. Materials and methods A case of a 45- year- old woman with a severely decayed upper premolar is presented. The tooth has been previously treated in an emergency department with a provisional endodontic medication, but a further treatment has been then performed. The tooth was painful at the moment of the visit and the carious lesion appeared to invade the subgingival level. A surgical-conservative approach has been selected involving crown lengthening, endodontic treatment and a prosthetic crown with a monolithic Lithium-Silicate. link2 Results The rehabilitative process required 3 months, including maturation times after surgery and the placement of the provisional crown. The patient claimed to be both esthetically and functionally satisfied with the restoration. Conclusion A conservative treatment of a severely involved tooth requires a critical evaluation of the remaining structures and a precise selection of the restorative materials. A monolithic crown could represent an ideal solution for restoring an upper premolar requiring esthetics and solid function, but the choice of a high translucent, easily polishable and possibly even chair-side prosthetic material might be an appreciable added value for clinicians.Introduction Oral lichen planus (OLP) is a chronic immune, inflammatory disease of the oral cavity of a still unknown etiology. Materials and methods The study involved 63 subjects diagnosed with oral lichen planus and 63 subjects without pathologic changes in the oral mucosa who were classified as controls. All subjects were given a detailed medical history at first screening. The medical history of the presence of other autoimmune disease in all subjects was supported by medical records. A sample of venous blood was taken from each subject in order to determine sedimentation rate (SE) and leukocyte count (L) using standard laboratory procedures, and serum C-reactive protein (CRP) concentration values were determined as well. Statistical analysis The methods of descriptive statistics, χ2-test, the Fisher's exact test, and the Student's t-test were used in the statistical processing of the results. The results were interpreted at a significance level of P less then 0.05. Results For all three measured inflammatory markers, there were no statistically significant differences in the number of subjects with elevated values between the test and control groups (P = 0.364 for SE; P = 1.000 for CRP and P = 0.219 for L). The prevalence of other autoimmune disease in the OLP group was higher than in the control group, with statistical significance, and the most common was cutaneous lichen in nine subjects (14.29%) with OLP and celiac disease seven subjects (11.11%). Conclusions The results showed that there was no significant difference in the average values of the investigated inflammatory markers in blood (SE, CRP and L) between patients with OLP and control subjects, while a significantly higher incidence of other autoimmune diseases in patients with OLP was demonstrated.Introduction The workplace can be a source of stress. One of the most stressful professions is the profession of doctor of dental medicine (dentist). Multiple forms of stressors lead to such occupational stress. Objective The research objective was to examine stress levels among dentists in the 25 to 45 year age group. Materials and Methods This cross sectional study included 105 doctors of dental medicine throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina, aged between 25 and 45 years. The research was conducted by means of a confidential on-line survey. All participants signed the informed consent, and voluntarily filled out the survey form. The research used the PERCEIVED STRESS SCALE-PSS 10. The statistical analysis used the IBM Statistics SPSS v.21 statistics packages and Microsoft Excel 2010. Descriptive statistics, X2 test, and T-test were also used. Results Of the total number of respondents, n=105, 66 (63%) of them were female and 39 (37%) male respondents. The mean median value of the score was 23 (Mean = 23.080), as a result of which we can conclude that the respondents in the 25-45 year age population group that participated in this study showed a high level of stress based on the completed questionnaire and the answers received from the respondents. Conclusion The estimated level of stress has been shown to be high in both genders, with no statistically significant difference between genders.Aim The primary aim of this study was to evaluate the gender-based differences in patients with hypodontia. As a secondary outcome, the study looked into the correlation between hypodontia and other dental clinical features among Kosovar adolescents. Material and Methods 3,306 students, aged between 15-21 years were examined in schools in Kosovo. Examinations were performed using a dental mirror to assess the number of teeth present, and dental impressions were taken from hypodontia subjects. Panoramic and periapical radiographs, as well as intraoral photographs, were taken in subjects who were suspected to have hypodontia to verify the diagnosis. Results 77 of the examined subjects had hypodontia, among which 46 were females (59.7%) and 31 were males (40.3%). The most frequently missing teeth were the maxillary lateral incisors, followed by the mandibular second premolars. 68 patients (88.3%) had at least one dental clinical feature concurrent with hypodontia. link3 Conclusion No significant difference was noted in the prevalence of hypodontia according to gender. Teeth rotation was the most commonly observed clinical feature followed by inclination.
