The neuroinflammatory response plays a major role in the secondary injury cascade after traumatic spinal cord injury (SCI). To date, systemic anti-inflammatory medications such as methylprednisolone sodium succinate (MPSS) have shown promise in SCI. However, systemic immunosuppression can have detrimental side effects. Therefore, immunomodulatory approaches including the use of human immunoglobulin G (hIgG) could represent an attractive alternative. While emerging preclinical data suggests that hIgG is neuroprotective after SCI, the optimal time window of administration and the mechanism of action remain incompletely understood. Female adult Wistar rats received a clip compression-contusion SCI at the C7/T1 level of the spinal cord. Injured rats were randomized, in a blinded manner, to receive a single intravenous bolus of hIgG (2g/kg) or control buffer at 15minutes (min), 1hour (h) or 4h post-SCI. At 24h and 8weeks post-SCI, molecular, histologiy effects mediated by hIgG (2 g/kg) in the injured spinal cord might be explained in twofold. First, hIgG might antagonize neutrophil infiltration into the spinal cord by co-localizing with endothelial cell ligands that mediate various steps in neutrophil extravasation. Second, hIgG could traffic neutrophils towards the spleen by increasing expression of neutrophil chemoattractants in the spleen and sera. Day-old chicks were vaccinated with MD or IB/ND vaccines or received no treatment (control group). The gene expression of TLR and AvBD in the kidneys of 3-day-old chicks and 10-day-old chicks was examined using real-time PCR. The localization of AvBD2 and AvBD4 was examined by immunohistochemistry at day three only. At 3 days of age, the expression of TLR7 and TLR21 was significantly higher in the IB/ND group (but not in the MD group) than in the control group. Conversely, at 10 days of age there was no significant difference in the expression of the three TLR between groups. In the 3-day-old chicks the expression levels of AvBD4, 5, 6, and 7 were higher in the MD group than in the control group. Furthermore, at this age, the expression levels of other AvBD were not significantly different between the control and vaccination (MD and IB/ND) groups. At 10 days of age, no AvBD expression was affected by MD and IB/ND vaccinations. The isolates carried high rate of genes resistant to aminoglycoside (70.63%), tetracycline (26.57%), fosfomycin (25.17%), sulfonamides (23.78%), and β-lactamases (15.38%); and aadA was the most frequently observed antimicrobial resistance gene (ARG). Antimicrobial resistance varies by Salmonella serotypes, with Salmonella enterica serovar Enteritidis (Salmonella ser. Feed efficiency (FE) is essential for improving economic efficiency and saving social resources in chicken production and may be affected by the cecal microbiota. Therefore, to investigate the composition and functional capacity of cecum microbes related to FE in Xiayan chicken, an indigenous breed in Guangxi province, metagenome sequencing was performed on chicken cecal contents. 173 male and 167 female chickens were divided into high and low FE groups according to the residual feed intake. The cecal microbial genome was extracted and sequenced. The results showed that the genera Bacteroides, Prevotella, and Alistipes were the 3 most abundant in each cecal microbiome. The linear discriminant analysis effect size revealed 6 potential biomarkers in male and 14 in female chickens. Notably, the relative abundance of Lactobacillus in the high FE group was higher than that of the low FE group both in the male and female chickens, and the species Limosilactobacillus oris has a higher score in the high FE group of male chickens. In contrast, some potentially pathogenic microorganisms such as Campylobacter avium in females and Helicobacter pullorum in males were enriched in the low FE group.
