Research has shown that state emotion can affect emotion regulation strategies in healthy samples. Emotion regulation plays an important role in depression. We hypothesized that for depressed individuals, experiencing anxiety or anger affects emotion regulation strategy use differently than experiencing sadness.

Individuals diagnosed with chronic or recurrent depression (
= 386) responded to vignettes of hypothetical stressors and reported their state emotions and emotion regulation strategies in a thought-listing procedure. We modeled the effect of reporting anger or anxiety compared to sadness on the use of seven emotion regulation strategies avoidance, distraction, other-blame, problem-solving, rumination, self-blame, and social support.

Compared to sadness, anger was associated with a greater likelihood of using other-blame, and a lower likelihood of using avoidance, rumination, or self-blame. Compared to sadness, anxiety was associated with a greater likelihood of using self-blame. Responses with anger or anxiety did not significantly differ from sadness in coder-rated adaptiveness.

Differences in observed emotion regulation strategy use were correlated with the discrete emotions experienced, and not overall adaptiveness of a response. These results highlight the importance of assessing for emotion type when studying emotion regulation strategy use in depression.

The sample consisted of 713 female-male dyads in which women were pregnant and living with HIV in rural South Africa. Using an actor-partner interdependence model (APIM), we examined the interdependent influence of psychological and physical IPV on men by their female partners and psychological and physical IPV on women by their male partners on sexual risk behavior. The APIM model found there were no actor (b = -0.06, SE = 0.05, p = .221) or partner (b = -1.2, SE = 0.06, p = .056) effects contributing to protected sex by female IPV victimization. In contrast, significant actor (b = -0.28, SE = 0.06, p  less then  .001) and partner (b = -0.29, SE = 0.06, p  less then  .001) effects for protection were related to male IPV victimization. The model also found that the covariate of female HIV disclosure was associated with both male (b = 0.5, SE = 0.12, p  less then  .001) and female protected sexual intercourse (b = 0.58, SE = 0.1, p  less then  .001). Female HIV disclosure was related to an increased likelihood of protected sex by both male and female partners. As male partners reported more IPV victimization, the likelihood of protected sex between male and female partners decreased.Trial registration ClinicalTrials.gov identifier NCT02085356.
Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) is a well-recognized therapy in children with refractory hypoxia. Different cannulas have been used with reported complications with placement, such as cardiac perforation, and multiple reports focusing on avoiding this. However, strategies to avoid hepatic vein cannulation and reposition when it occurs are not well described.

Here, we report a case where a 27-Fr Avalon bicaval double lumen cannula in the left hepatic vein was successfully repositioning using serial chest X-rays (CXR) and transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) in a 17-year-old female.

While venovenous (VV) ECMO is preferred by many, placement of the Avalon catheter, a cannula available for VV ECMO, may be challenging due to migration or positioning issues. Specific techniques of wire and catheter advancement as well as confirming wire position in the infra-hepatic inferior vena cava can help ensure appropriate positioning while avoiding hepatic vein cannulation and enabling successful repositioning when it occurs.

Wire position in the infra-hepatic inferior vena cava helps ensure safe and appropriate Avalon cannula position and placement. The Avalon cannula can be successfully repositioned from the left hepatic vein by retracting the cannula, reinserting the wire and introducer together, and then manipulation techniques using serial CXR and TTE.

We compared men's and women's self-reported health and wellbeing using Poisson models that included socio-demographic covariates. Approximately 20% of respondents reported at least one physical functioning problem. In multiple variable models, men were significantly more likely to have a high viral load (≥200 copies/mL; aIRR 2.57), consume alcohol (aIRR 12.58), receive no help from family or friends (aIRR 2.18), and to feel worthless due to their HIV status (aIRR 2.40). Men were significantly less likely to be overweight or obese (aIRR 0.31), or report poor health (health today is not "very good;" aIRR 0.41). Taken together, despite higher prevalence of poor self-rated health, women were healthier across a range of objective dimensions, with better viral suppression, less alcohol use, and less social isolation (although they were more likely to have an unhealthy BMI). Research that includes multi-dimensional and gender-specific measurement of physical, mental and social health is important for improving our understanding of well-being of PLWH.Metabolism management plays an essential role in extracorporeal technologies. There are different metabolic management devices integrated to extracorporeal devices; the most commonly used and accepted metabolic target in adult patients is indexed oxygen delivery (280 mL/min/m2) and cardiac index (2.4 L/min/m2), which can be managed independently or according to other metabolic parameters. Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) is a temporary form of life support providing a prolonged biventricular circulatory and pulmonary support for patients experiencing both pulmonary and cardiac failure unresponsive to conventional therapy. The goal-directed perfusion initiative during cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) reduced the incidence of acute kidney injury after cardiac surgery. On the basis of the available literature, the identified goals to achieve during CPB include maintenance of oxygen delivery > 300 mL O2/min/m2 and reduction in vasopressor use. ECMO and CPB are conceptually similar but differ in many aspects and finality; in particular, they differ in the scientific evidence for metabolic management nadirs. As for CPB, predictive target parameters have been found and consolidated, particularly in terms of acute renal injury and the prevention of anaerobic metabolism, while for ECMO management, a blurred path remains. In this context, we review the strategies for optimal goal-directed therapy during CPB and ECMO, trying to transfer the knowledge and experience from daily cardiac surgery to veno-arterial ECMO.
To examine whether information that mothers received from dentists in their social network was consistent with professional recommendations for the first dental visit at age 1 y.

We performed a cross-sectional qualitative study on mothers in Pennsylvania and West Virginia from 2018 to 2020 to explore how their social networks influence their children's dental service utilization. In-person, semistructured interviews were conducted with 126 mothers of children ages 3 to 5 y. Qualitative data were transcribed, coded, and analyzed using NVivo 12. Two investigators analyzed data using grounded theory and the constant comparative method.

Over half of mothers reported a professional relationship with a dentist as part of their social network on children's oral health. Mothers described the following themes 1) mothers contacted dentists in their social network for child dental information and to schedule their child's first dental visit, 2) mothers described dentists' justifications for the timing of the first dental visit older than age 1 y, 3) mothers described the impact of the dentist declining to see her child, and 4) after the dentist declined to see her child, some mothers did not comply with the dentist's recommendation of delayed child dental visits because they were given alternative information that encouraged early dental visits.

Our findings indicate a need for dentists to reinforce mothers' dental-seeking behavior for young children and adhere to recommendations on the age 1 dental visit.

Qualitative data on mothers' social networks show that dentists play a key role in access to early dental visits, particularly when dentists decline to see the mother's child for visits.

He traveled abroad to France, where he studied High School, later he entered the School of Medicine at Sorbonne University in Paris. Back in Mexico, Domínguez installed his medical office in his house. Belisario was recognized for his philanthropic attitude, he also often sought the well-being being of Chiapas and Mexico. In 1911 he became Comitán Municipal President, after the overthrown of presidente Porfirio Díaz.He witnessed the coup against President Francisco Madero by General Huerta. Belisario wrote a speech in which he expressed the shame of having a traitor and murderer as President. As consequence of the speech, he was killed. After Belisario's assassination, an outrage was incited, damaging the image of President Huerta. Belisario's civic value was honored with a medal that bears his name " Belisario Domínguez Medal" in 1953 which is the greatest recognition that can be obtained by a Mexican.
In the next decades, many countries will become 'ageing societies'. This combined with the current high rates of suicide in later life suggests that many older adults may die by suicide before clinical trials can be conducted to demonstrate the best approaches to prevent late-life suicide.

A New Zealand (NZ) 'expert panel' has reviewed key considerations for suicide prevention interventions in older adults based on existing evidence, where available, and expert opinion. The key considerations were extracted from the current literature. The Delphi survey method was used to reach consensus for identifying interventions to be recommended as part of a national strategy for older adults' suicide prevention.

A set of 20 key recommended considerations are presented. The major addition to existing recommendations is the need for 'A suicide prevention strategy for the elderly…' to enhance the national all-ages suicide prevention strategy.

The recommended statements are offered for consideration by stakeholder groups preparing new interventions, large-scale public healthcare planning and governmental policy.
