About Toto
Toto was formed in 1976 by guitarists Jeff Porcaro, David Paich (who at the time were also well-known studio musicians working with Boz Scaggs) and bassist/singer Bobby Kimball. Taking their name from the Latin word which means "all encompassing," the group was determined to explore all styles of music.
In 1981, Toto's third album Turn Back is a failure However, they resurface with their fourth release Isolation which contains two hits including the title track and Roseanna. The album and their tour established them as a brand around the world.
After a brief hiatus, Toto returns with the album Fahrenheit. During the recording process of the fifth album The group loses its manager and faces financial difficulties. They decide to change their name and record a new album with a new producer. Joseph is a more natural frontman than Frederiksen and gives the band a much-needed boost.
In 1999, the band released Mindfields and begins an extensive tour around the world. After a few weeks in Europe, the band heads to Japan for sold-out shows. After a brief hiatus, Toto resumes their recording and releases their first live album, Absolutely Live in 1993. The album features a cover of Weezer's song Hash Pipe as a response to the band's coverage of Africa on their recent tour. Toto's touring band includes drummer Lenny Castro and bassist Shannon Forrest along with keyboardist Shem Von Schroeck.

The group broke up following this. However, Toto reunited in 2010 to perform a benefit for the ALS Foundation. It was the first time all the original Toto members had been performing together for more than 31 years. The original group was joined by keyboardist Greg Tambu who filled in for Paich and bassist David Hungate who filled in for Shem von Schroeck.
