Albums

Toto's discography comprises 13 studio albums and 4 live albums. There are also a few compilations. In addition to releasing original music, Toto has also done collaborations with other artists as well as on soundtracks for films. The band has received multiple Grammy Awards.

Before Toto was formed, members of the band played session work for other musicians. David Paich, the son of drummer Marty Paich, and Jeff Porcaro (the brother of guitarist Joe Porcaro and drummer Jeff Porcaro) all played on Boz Scaggs’ 1975 album Silk Degrees. Toto was formed in 1976 as a result of the collaboration.

Turn Back, Toto's third studio album was criticized by critics due to the absence of hit singles. In 1985, lead singer Fergie Frederiksen resigned from the group and the group held auditions for a new frontman. The band picked guitarist Steve Lukather, and recorded Fahrenheit in 1986.

Toto released Toto XX in 1998 to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the band. The band went through old tapes and recordings to create the special record. The album was well-loved by fans and Toto embarked on an extensive tour with former members Bobby Kimball Steve Porcaro and Joseph Williams.

During the tour for the album 40 Trips Around the Sun The drummer Leland Sklar left the group and was replaced by Shem von Schroeck. In 2017, Toto released a double-CD live album titled Falling in Between, which included live recordings from the tour and an interview with the group.

Drummer David Hungate also left the band following the tour. He was replaced by bassist Leland Sklar.

In 1998, Toto began working on a special project called Old Is New. The album featured three brand new tracks as well as a number of completed recordings of songs from the past. The album received a lot of attention all over the world and the band went on a world tour to promote the album.
