As we approach the badger baiting season, the urgent need to address wildlife crimes in our countryside becomes ever more pressing. These heinous acts, carried out under a veil of secrecy, are causing immense suffering to our wildlife.
Wildlife crimes in the UK occur frequently but often go unreported and unpunished. Overstretched police forces, with limited training and support, struggle to investigate and prosecute these crimes. Despite clear links between animal abuse and serious crimes such as those involving drugs, firearms, and violence, offences against wildlife are not treated with the same severity.
Badger baiting is just one example of the horrific hidden crimes that take place in our countryside, This brutal blood sport sees badgers being tortured and killed for so-called "entertainment." These shy, peaceful creatures are ripped from their homes and torn apart by packs of trained dogs. This cruelty must stop.
We need the new Labour Government to take immediate action by making all wildlife crimes 'notifiable'. This means recording these offences as crimes and including them in national statistics.
Making wildlife crimes notifiable will provide a clearer picture of the extent of these issues, leading to better detection and prosecution. We can ensure that those who commit these horrific acts are brought to justice, protecting our precious wildlife from further harm.
We need your support to make this change happen, Hank. Please take a moment to write to your local MP and urge them to support our campaign. Your voice can make a significant impact.
Thank you for everything you are doing for all animals.
