The administration of miR‑130b inhibitor exerted opposite effects, while si‑PTEN reversed the effects of miR‑130b inhibitor. In vivo, the administration of agomir‑130b attenuated cognitive disorders and neuronal damage, increased SOD activity, reduced the MDA content, activated Akt protein levels and inhibited the mitochondria‑mediated apoptosis pathway in rats with DE. On the whole, these results suggest that miR‑130b activates the PI3K/Akt signaling pathway to exert protective effects against oxidative stress injury via the regulation of PTEN in rats with DE.The aim of the present study was to investigate the role and regulatory mechanism of LBX2 antisense RNA 1 (LBX2‑AS1) in colorectal cancer. Firstly, LBX2‑AS1 expression was detected using reverse transcription‑quantitative PCR in colorectal cancer tissues and cells, and its prognostic and diagnostic efficacy was assessed in a colorectal cancer cohort (n=145). Subcellular fractionation assay of LBX2‑AS1 was performed. Secondly, the effects of LBX2‑AS1 and microRNA (miR)‑491‑5p on colorectal cancer cell proliferation, apoptosis, migration and invasion were investigated by a series of functional assays. Thirdly, RNA immunoprecipitation, dual‑luciferase reporter and gain and loss of function assays were carried out to analyze the interactions between ETS transcription factor ELK1 (ELK1) and LBX2‑AS1, as well as LBX2‑AS1, miR‑491‑5p and S100A11. Thus, LBX2‑AS1 could be an underlying prognostic and diagnostic marker for colorectal cancer.The Veterans Health Administration (VHA) is undergoing a transformational shift from disease-focused care to a Whole Health model that emphasizes physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health and well-being. As this shift is occurring, women veterans using VHA services face challenges navigating a system that has historically served a primarily male demographic, without consistent consensus on which services require specialization by gender. A quality improvement project was conducted to solicit feedback on VHA behavioral and wellness programs from women veterans enrolled in VHA mental healthcare services. A multi-disciplinary work group of clinical researchers and healthcare providers developed a needs assessment survey to assess patient needs and preferences for behavioral health services. A convenience sample of female veterans using VHA mental healthcare services within a comprehensive Women's Health Clinic were invited to complete this anonymous survey. 107 women Veterans 18-65+ years old (65.3% African American; 5.9% LatinX; 54.2% aged under 55) completed the survey. Over 50% of patients endorsed relationships, physical activity, sleep/nightmares, pain management, anger, or spiritual/moral pain as top wellness priorities. Programatic preferences included location (located at the main VA Hospital) and gender composition (female only group formats). Schedule conflicts were the most frequently cited barriers. Results from this quality improvement project highlight considerations for tailoring the content and delivery of behavioral services for women veterans with mental health conditions.The COVID-19 pandemic has disproportionately impacted communities of color and highlighted longstanding racial health inequities. Communities of color also report higher rates of medical mistrust driven by histories of medical mistreatment and continued experiences of discrimination and systemic racism. Medical mistrust may exacerbate COVID-19 disparities. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/U0126.html This study utilizes the Behavior Model for Vulnerable Populations to investigate predictors of medical mistrust during the COVID-19 pandemic among urban youth of color. Minority youth (N = 105) were recruited from community organizations in Kansas City, Missouri to complete an online survey between May and June 2020. Multiple linear regressions were performed to estimate the effect of personal characteristics, family and community resources, and COVID-19 need-based factors on medical mistrust. Results indicated that loneliness, financial insecurity (e.g., job loss, loss of income) due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and eligibility for free or reduced lunch predicted medical mistrust. Insurance status, neighborhood median household income, social support, and perceived COVID-19 risk were not significantly associated with medical mistrust. Future research and policies are necessary to address systemic factors that perpetuate medical mistrust among youth of color.Almost 50% of patients with cardiovascular diseases face challenges in taking medications and increased morbidity and mortality. Text messaging may impact medication refill behavior and can be delivered at scale to patients by texting mobile phones. To obtain feedback from persons with chronic conditions on the design of interactive text messages and determine language of message for making messages that can motivate patients to refill medications on time. We purposively sampled 35 English and Spanish speaking patients with at least one chronic condition from three large healthcare delivery systems to participate in N-of-1 video-based synchronous interviews. Research assistants shared ideas for theory-informed text messages with content intended to persuade patients to refill their medication. We transcribed recorded interviews and conducted a content analysis to identify strategies to employ generating a dynamic interactive text message library intended to increase medication refill. Those interviewed were of diverse age and race/ethnicity and typical of persons with multiple chronic conditions. Several participants emphasized that personally tailored and positively framed messages would be more persuasive than generic and/or negative messages. Some patients appreciated humor and messages that could evoke a sense of social support from their providers and rejected the use of emojis. Messages to remind patients to refill medications may facilitate improvements in adherence, which in turn can improve chronic care. Designing messages that are persuasive and can prompt action is feasible and should be considered given the ease with which such messages can be delivered automatically at scale.
