Evidence is also mounting to suggest that TFII-I is involved in DNA damage repair pathways. Here I bring together these recent observations and suggest a connection between transcriptional and DNA repair functions of TFII-I.Investigate baseline factors that prospectively predict persistence versus non-persistence of behavioral and cognitive eating disorder symptoms because knowledge of maintenance factors, which is limited, could inform the design of more effective eating disorder treatments. Data from 4 prevention trials that targeted young women with body image concerns (N = 1952; M age 19.7, SD 5.7) and collected interview-assessed data on behavioral and cognitive symptoms over 1-year follow-up were combined to address this aim. Greater binge eating severity predicted binge eating persistence. Greater dieting, binge eating frequency and severity, weight/shape overvaluation, and feeling fat predicted compensatory behavior persistence. Lower BMI predicted low BMI persistence. Greater thin-ideal internalization, body dissatisfaction, dieting, negative affect, binge eating frequency, binge eating severity, compensatory behaviors, weight/shape overvaluation, fear of fatness or weight gain, and feeling fat predicted weight/shape overvaluation persistence. Greater thin-ideal internalization, dieting, compensatory behaviors, weight/shape overvaluation, fear of fatness or weight gain, and feeling fat predicted persistence of fear of fatness or weight gain. Results provide support for intervention targets of several extant eating disorder treatments and identified novel maintenance factors not commonly targeted in treatments (e.g., negative affect). Results also imply that certain features of eating disorders predict symptom persistence.Prospection, the mental simulation of future events, has been theoretically linked to physical and mental health. Prior studies have found that prospection is malleable; however, no research to our knowledge has tested whether a scalable intervention explicitly targeting the simulation of positive future outcomes can lead to more generalized positive prospection, and enhance positive outlook and reduce distress. The current study tested a novel, web-based cognitive bias modification for interpretation (CBM-I) program designed to shift prospective bias towards more positive (as opposed to negative) representations of future outcomes among 172 participants selected for having a relatively negative baseline expectancy bias. Results showed that following CBM-I, participants in active training conditions exhibited more positive expectations about the future, and increased self-efficacy and growth mindset. Also, optimism increased and depression and anxiety symptoms decreased following active training, but this also occurred for the control condition. Analyses did not suggest that changes in positive expectations mediated changes in positive outlook outcomes. Results suggest that an online prospection intervention can lead to more positive expectations about future events and improve positive outlook, though open questions remain about what accounts for the training effects.
High-frequency rTMS over the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC) has demonstrated mixed effects on chronic and provoked pain.
In this study, a meta-analysis was conducted to characterise the potential analgesic effects of high-frequency rTMS over the DLPFC on both chronic and provoked pain.
A total of 626 studies were identified in a systematic search. Twenty-six eligible studies were included for the quantitative review, among which 17 modulated chronic pain and the remaining investigated the influence on provoked pain. The left side DLPFC was uniformly targeted in the chronic pain studies. While our data identified no overall effect of TMS across chronic pain conditions, there was a significant short-term analgesia in neuropathic pain conditions only (SMD=-0.87). https://www.selleckchem.com/products/PD-0332991.html In terms of long-lasting analgesia, there was an overall pain reduction in the midterm (SMD=-0.53, 24.6 days average) and long term (SMD=-0.63, 3 months average) post DLPFC stimulation, although these effects were not observed within specig-term analgesic effects.
Bone remodeling in the elderly is no longer balanced. As a result, the morphologies and mechanical properties of bone at different scales will change. These changes would affect the mechanical responses of bone, which might exacerbate the imbalance of bone remodeling and even cause age-related bone diseases.
Considering those changes, multiscale finite element (FE) models of bone in the young and the elderly were developed that included macroscale (proximal femur), mesoscale (cortical bone), microscale (Haversian system) and sub-microscale (osteocyte-lacuna-canaliculus-extracellular matrix system, OLCES). The stress and strain distributions at different scales and transmissions among different scales were investigated.
The stresses of the elderly at macroscale, mesoscale and microscale were higher than those in the young by 23.7%, 62.5% and 8.0%, respectively, and the stresses of the elderly and the young at sub-microscale were almost the same. The strain of the elderly at macroscale, mesoscale, microsccreases in stress and strain at macroscale and mesoscale. The reduction of lacunar number in the elderly is not conducive to the mechanical transmission from mesoscale to microscale. The differences in stress and strain at microscale between the young and the elderly are smaller than those at macroscale or mesoscale. The strain stimulus sensed by osteocyte in the elderly is not weakened compared with that in the young.
Nebulizers can be divided according to their functional principle into jet, ultrasonic and vibrating mesh nebulizers with intermittent or continuous aerosol delivery and may be used with many different adapters and connections and all can influence their efficiency. The aim of the present work was to evaluate the effect functional principle, delivery technique, and connection used on aerosol delivered from four different nebulizers.
Four nebulizers were used in the study; three of them were jet nebulizers (JNs; AeroEclipse, NebuTech, En ful Kit) and one of them was Aerogen Solo vibrating mesh nebulizers (VMN). AeroEclipse and NebuTech are intermittent output nebulizers, while the rest are continuous output nebulizers. Aerogen Solo was used with either a standard T-piece or Aerogen Ultra holding chamber, and En ful Kit was used with a standard T-piece or Circulaire II holding chamber. 2ml of salbutamol was nebulized to determine the total emitted dose (TED) and aerodynamic droplet characteristics of the emitted aerosol from the 6 different sets (4 nebulizers with T-piece and 2 holding chambers).
