Primary pulmonary lymphoma (PPL) refers to clonal lymphoid hyperplasia of one or both lungs in patients who have no detectable extrapulmonary lymphoma or bone marrow involvement at the time of diagnosis and during the subsequent 3 months. It is rare for both diseases to occur in the lungs of the same patient.

Sarcoidosis is a systemic granulomatous disease of unknown origin characterized by non-caseous necrotizing epithelial cell granuloma that affects the lung and lymphatic system. Sarcoidosis mainly occurs in young and middle-aged people, usually manifested as bilateral hilar lymph node enlargement, lung infiltration, and eye and skin lesions. Sarcoidosis has a high natural remission rate, but patients with progressive imaging or pulmonary function accompanied by significant clinical symptoms or extrapulmonary lesions need to be treated.

The sarcoidosis patient had received a 3-month methylprednisolone treatment which significantly improved clinical manifestations including cough and sputum, and extrapulmonary presentation, such as skin nodules and enlargement of parotid glands.

Stroke patients at their early hyperacute phase (n = 180) were enrolled in this study (156 ischemic strokes and 24 hemorrhagic strokes). Blood levels of C-reactive protein (CRP), testosterone, and estradiol were determined at admission, before any specific intervention. Patients' clinical data, including the above-mentioned laboratory parameters, were compared between the above two stroke types (in total and between sexes).

The mean age of the patients was 69.55 ± 12.03 years old (69.92 ± 11.94 years old in ischemic stroke and 67.12 ± 12.54 years old in hemorrhagic stroke). Serum estradiol levels of both males of ischemic stroke and females of hemorrhagic stroke patients were significantly higher than the females of the ischemic stroke. Serum CRP levels of both females and males of the hemorrhagic group were higher than their peers of the opposite group. Early admission serum CRP level ≥ 0.74 mg/dL in males helped predict hemorrhagic stroke while a serum estradiol level ≥ 14.07 ng/mL helped predict the same type of stroke in females.

Our study results show that simple early laboratory measures (such as CRP and estradiol) may help in the early phase management of stroke. Further studies are needed to confirm our findings.

Gastric cancer is the fifth most common malignancy worldwide. In early stages, no obvious symptoms are usually observed in gastric cancer patients, and it is especially hard to distinguish gastric cancer from benign gastric diseases, resulting in delayed diagnosis and poor prognosis. Common biomarkers of gastric cancer, such as CEA and CA19-9, are also elevated in benign diseases. There is an urgent need to develop a convenient and reliable biomarker for differentiating between gastric cancer and benign gastric diseases.

This study retrospectively analyzed the data of 126 patients, including 73 gastric cancer patients and 53 benign gastric disease patients. Patient characteristics collected for analysis included age, gender, laboratory data, and clinical staging. Unpaired t-test was used to check the difference of cholinesterase level between the gastric cancer group and the benign gastric disease group. Kruskal Wallis H test and Mann-Whitney U test were used to check the difference of cholinesterase leveeases.

The current study evaluated the level of serum N1-methylnicotinamide (me-NAM) in cervical cancer patients and further explored whether serum me-NAM was related to the prognosis of cervical cancer.

Fifty-eight cases of cervical intraepithelial neoplasia patients, 78 cases of cervical cancer patients, and 52 healthy women were included in the present study. Serum me-NAM concentrations were determined by liquid chromatography with tandem mass spectrometry. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was used to assess me-NAM as a biomarker and Kaplan-Meier analysis was carried out to evaluate the survival rate.

Our data showed that the level of serum me-NAM in cervical cancer patients was significantly higher than that in the cervical intraepithelial neoplasia group and the healthy control group. Furthermore, the level of me-NAM in cervical cancer tissues of stage I, II, III, and IV was higher than that of those without lymph node metastasis. The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC) for me-NAM was higher than that of squamous cell carcinoma antigen (SCC Ag) and carbohydrate antigen 125 (CA125) when comparing cervical cancer from CIN or healthy control.
