NEARLY 2,000 NON-CITIZEN VOTERS REFERRED FOR PROSECUTION IN GEORGIA

In Georgia, prosecutors and state investigators received over 1,600 referrals where potential non-citizens tried to register to vote. Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger made the referrals after Georgia completed its first citizenship audit of the state’s voter rolls.

As reported by Just The News, “the audit identified 1,634 non-citizens as having attempted to register to vote,” who could not be verified through the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services’ (USCIS) Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements (SAVE) program.

The audit results also showed that non-citizens attempted to register to vote in 88 counties in Georgia between 1997 and Feb. 24, 2022, although 80 percent of the attempts happened after 2016.

According to Just The News, citing various officials, “Five metro Atlanta counties — Clayton (141), Cobb (143), Gwinnett, Fulton and DeKalb — represented 69% of the attempted non-citizen applicants.”

According to Lookout Mountain Judicial Circuit District Attorney Chris Arnt, “Attempting to register to vote by an individual who knows he or she is ineligible is a violation of Georgia law.”

In 2020, Georgia was one of several states in the spotlight due to concerns about how the election was conducted. As a result, Georgia recently implemented tougher voting laws to help preserve election integrity.

Democrats, including Stacey Abrams, have challenged Georgia’s new rules, arguing that they violate federal law. Democrats also unsuccessfully tried to pass the For the People Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act.

According to many Republicans, by way of both bills, Democrats sought to circumvent the constitutional powers and rights that states are given regarding the election process and ignore the concept of federalism.
