To study the polymorphism distribution of estrogen receptor (ER) α gene and the correlation between different types of polymorphism in multiple sclerosis (MS) and neuromyelitis optica (NMO) patients.
Forty-six cases of MS and NMO diagnosed from June 2018 to December 2019 were collected. Peripheral venous blood samples were collected. The patient's gender, age of onset, course of disease, and other clinical data were recorded. Fifty-eight healthy volunteers of the same age and sex were selected. By means of Pvu II and Xba I restriction fragment length polymorphism enzyme recognition sites of ER α gene, polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism analysis was conducted.
There was no significant difference in the frequency distribution of ER α gene's PP, Pp, and pp genotype between MS and NMO case group and control group (P = .598). Frequency distribution of ER α gene's XX, Xx, and xx was statistically significant between MS and NMO case group and control group (P = .021). Among themMO. Xba I gene could be a risk factor of MS and NMO pathogenesis, especially the women with Xx genotype are more vulnerable. Xba I gene polymorphisms in the ER α gene may impact the disease duration of MS and NMO, or rather, the disease duration of Xx genotype persists longer than Xx genotype. Pvu II gene polymorphisms in the ER α gene has no correlation with MS and NMO.Aquaporins (AQPs) are a family of membrane water channels that facilitate the passive transport of water across the plasma membrane of cells in response to osmotic gradients created by the active transport of solutes. Water-selective AQPs are involved in tumor angiogenesis, invasion, metastasis and growth. However, the polytype expression patterns and prognostic values of eleven AQPs in clear cell Renal Cell Cancer (ccRCC) have yet to be filled. We preliminarily investigated the transcriptional expression, survival data and immune infiltration of AQPs in patients with renal cell cancer via the Oncomine database, Kaplan-Meier Plotter, UALCAN cancer database, and cBioPortal databases. The ethical approval was waived by the local ethics committee of Peking University People's Hospital for the natural feature of mine into databases. The mRNA expression of AQP1/2/3/4/5/6/7/11 was significantly decreased in ccRCC patients. Meanwhile, MIP and AQP1/2/4/6/7/8/9/11 are notably related to the clinical stage or pathological grade of ccRCC. Lower levels of AQP1/3/4/5/7/10 expression were related to worse overall survival (OS) in patients diagnosed with ccRCC. The AQP mutation rate was 25% in ccRCC patients, but genetic alterations in AQPs were unlikely to be associated with OS and disease free survival in ccRCC patients. In addition, the expression of AQP1, AQP3, AQP4 and AQP10 was positively correlated with immune cells, and the expression of AQP6, AQP7 and AQP11 was negatively correlated with immune cells. AQP9 had a strong and significantly positive correlation with multiple immune cells. Abnormal expression of AQPs in ccRCC indicated the prognosis and immunomodulatory state of ccRCC. Further study needs to be performed to explore AQPs as new biomarkers for ccRCC.This study investigated the different complementary and alternative medicines (CAMs) adopted by people in Japan, as well as the health problems treated with CAMs. Understanding more about this topic will facilitate the appropriate incorporation of CAMs into conventional medicine when treating health problems. Data were collected through an online survey based on the International Questionnaire to Measure Use of Complementary and Alternative Medicine (I-CAM-Q). The study examined CAM utilization among people aged 20 years or older; 164 valid responses were collected (18.9%). We adopted a cross-sectional design. We then compared the relationships between the specific health problems reported by participants, their self-help practices, and the kinds of healthcare specialists consulted. We also examined participants' reasons for using CAMs and their responses regarding the usefulness of the CAMs adopted. We found that self-help/CAM practices differed for specific health problems. Participants with musculoskeletal and heart problems were more likely to use poultices. Those with respiratory and digestive problems were more likely to practice yoga, tai chi, and qigong. Those with digestive and neurological problems were more likely to use aromatherapy. The I-CAM-Q questionnaire also revealed the purpose and usefulness of the CAMs utilized as well as the participants' attitudes regarding conventional medicine. The study showed that participants find physicians less helpful than other options for treating their health problems. Additionally, when asked whether it was helpful to consult with a specific professional for health problems, there was a higher percentage of participants who answered "Very helpful" for professionals, like massage, judo, acupuncture, and moxibustion therapists, than for physicians. The results of this study will help to inform medical providers of the most appropriate types of CAMs for dealing with various health problems.Primary trigeminal neuralgia (PTN) is characterized by chronic neuropathic pain. There are few studies exploring masticatory muscle changes in patients with PTN. This study evaluated the changes in the masticatory muscles using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and the predictive factors of masticatory muscle changes in patients with PTN. The radiologic outcomes of 52 patients with PTN and 58 healthy adults were evaluated. The temporalis, lateral pterygoid, medial pterygoid, and masseter muscles were assessed using MRI. Atrophy and edema of the masticatory muscles were noted. Multivariate analyses were conducted to identify factors associated with masticatory muscle atrophy. Among the PTN group, the right side (61.5%) and mandibular branch (53.9%) were the most affected. Muscle atrophy of the temporalis (P less then .001), medial pterygoid (P = .016), lateral pterygoid (P = .031), and masseter (P = .001) were significantly higher in the PTN group than in the control group. Lateral pterygoid edema was significantly higher in the PTN group (P less then .001). However, no significant difference was found in the temporalis and masseter edema between the two groups. Logistic regression analysis demonstrated that neurovascular conflict (NVC) significantly predicted mastication muscle atrophy (P = .037). Patients with PTN had higher rates of masticatory muscle atrophy and edema. The assessment of NVC may be a preoperative imaging biomarker to predict atrophy in PTN.
Older adults affected by stroke must face a difficult choice between receiving post-discharge care at home or in a facility. This study aimed to develop a decision aid (DA) to help older adults and their families choose the place of post-discharge care based on their values.
Values and data for designing the DA were obtained through interviews with older stroke patients and their families, a questionnaire survey of various health professionals, and a review of patients' medical records. Next, a prototypic DA was prepared and tested for comprehensibility and usability using the 12-item International Patient Decision Aid Standards instrument.
The DA was developed based on the following 6 values that were common among older stroke patients and their families "activities of daily living," "services and fees," "emergencies," "family support," "environment," and "home renovation." The prototype met the criteria in the comprehensibility and usability tests.
Older stroke patients can use the DA to think through the evidence-based information matching their own values to make a more satisfactory decision. The effectiveness of this DA should further be investigated in clinical settings.

This study aimed to assess the current status and annual changes in the number and pattern of prescriptions for pulmonary rehabilitation before and after its insurance coverage. The trends of pulmonary rehabilitation before and after its insurance coverage commencement were evaluated using the data of 24,380 patients during the 3-year period from 2016 to 2018 that were archived by the National Health Information Database of the Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service in South Korea. The annual total number of patients who received pulmonary rehabilitation was stratified by the type of prescription, sex, age, type of insurance, medical institution, and region. In addition, the frequencies of pulmonary rehabilitation for various diagnoses were investigated using the major codes of the Korean Standard Classification of Disease. The patients who received pulmonary rehabilitation increased by approximately 2 times from 5936 in 2016 (before insurance coverage) to 10,474 in 2019. Before 2017, most patients underwent simple pulmonary rehabilitation coded as MM290. However, since the insurance coverage of rehabilitation exercise for pulmonary disease (MM440), the proportions of patients receiving them increased. Men underwent pulmonary rehabilitation more often than women, and >70% of the patients were aged >60 years. Most patients received pulmonary rehabilitation at tertiary hospitals in Seoul. In 2016, pulmonary rehabilitation was prescribed more frequently for cerebral infarction; after 2017, it was prescribed more frequently for lung cancer. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/atn-161.html This study summarized the current status and trends of pulmonary rehabilitation in South Korea before and after National Health Insurance Service coverage, which commenced on January 1, 2017. A significant increase in the number of pulmonary rehabilitations was confirmed after the insurance coverage.Smile aesthetics are mainly influenced by the relative position of facial midline (FC-line), anterior tooth midline (AT-line) and labial tubercle midline (LT-line). However, the acceptable deviation of LT-line and AT-line relative to FC-line is unknown. This study aims to fill the critical gap. We adopted the method of cross-sectional study, the frontal full-face smile photographs of 1 subject set (1 male) were enrolled. Taking the FC-line as the center line, twelve images with 1-mm increment relative to FC-line (right or left deviation, the maximum deviation distance was 3-mm) in LT-line deviation model or LT + AT-line deviation model (LT-line coincided with AT-line basing on LT-line deviation model) were produced. Basing on Q-sort assessment, the images were evaluated by 160 dentists, 165 orthodontic patients and 163 freshmen. And the collected Q-sort scores were subjected to nonparametric comparative analysis using SPSS 18.0. There were significant differences in Q-sort scores among different groups (P .05). We also found that the score of male dentist significantly higher than female dentist (P less then .05). However, the scores of right deviation in dentists and orthodontic patients were significantly lower than those in left deviation (P less then .05). The acceptable deviation of LT-line and AT-line relative to FC-line should be kept within 2 mm. Besides, raters' occupation and gender, and deviation direction of model may influence the smile aesthetics.
