Typically, the humanities, including philosophy, literature, art, music, history and language have been used to interpret and record our understanding of the world. In recent decades, the humanities have seen somewhat of a renaissance within medicine, particularly within undergraduate medical education. This leading article explores the value of utilising medical humanities, such as art, poetry and theatre, within postgraduate primary care training. Using examples of approaches already interwoven into the fabric of undergraduate medical education, such as simulated patient consultations and anatomical body painting, the tangible benefits of applying humanities disciplines within general practice training are discussed. The humanities have much to offer from the value of utilising an artistic lens to examine the body, the creation of socially cohesive working environments and supporting the development of empathy within trainees. This article recommends the provision of both increased informal and formal engagement with the medical humanities within postgraduate primary care training, providing practical tips for GP educators looking to integrate the humanities within pre-existing tutorials. How can we nudge people to not engage in unethical behaviors, such as hoarding and violating social-distancing guidelines, during the COVID-19 pandemic? Because past research on antecedents of unethical behavior has not provided a clear answer, we turned to machine learning to generate novel hypotheses. We trained a deep-learning model to predict whether or not World Values Survey respondents perceived unethical behaviors as justifiable, on the basis of their responses to 708 other items. The model identified optimism about the future of humanity as one of the top predictors of unethicality. A preregistered correlational study (N = 218 U.S. residents) conceptually replicated this finding. A preregistered experiment (N = 294 U.S. residents) provided causal support Participants who read a scenario conveying optimism about the COVID-19 pandemic were less willing to justify hoarding and violating social-distancing guidelines than participants who read a scenario conveying pessimism. The findings suggest that optimism can help reduce unethicality, and they document the utility of machine-learning methods for generating novel hypotheses.
This study aimed to investigate the association between arterial stiffness and orthostatic hypotension (OH) and orthostatic blood pressure (BP) changes among Tibetans living at high altitude.

A total of 630 high-altitude Tibetans were included (56.53±10.16years; 246 men). Arterial stiffness was assessed by brachial-ankle pulse wave velocity (baPWV). OH was defined as a decrease in systolic BP (SBP) >20mmHg or a decrease in diastolic BP (DBP) >10mmHg after 1min or 3min of moving from supine to standing position.

The prevalence of OH in this population was 6.3%. Compared with subjects without OH, the subjects with OH had a higher baPWV (P<0.001). Multiple logistical regression found that baPWV was significantly associated with the occurrence of OH (OR 1.147, CI 95% 1.028-1.280, P =0.014). Spearman correlation analysis showed that baPWV was negatively associated with orthostatic changes in SBP and DBP(r=-0.256, P <0.001 and r =-0.194, P <0.001, respectively). Further multiple stepwise linear regression analysis showed that baPWV was independently correlated with orthostatic BP changes (SBP β=-0.
