America is stumbling towards nuclear war in much the same way our president climbs the stairs of Air Force One. Almost everyone reading this has been made poorer in the past two years, factoring in the impacts of inflation on purchasing power, the current state of your 401k, or the value of your home. In the past several years, the quality of your life has been dramatically impacted based on the quality of your governor.

Rather than election day, for most of the country, today is the conclusion of something resembling election month. While one would expect any first-world nation to be capable of concluding in election night, the same institutions that fortified 2020 have already warned us that the official count could take days or weeks. It is, of course, the most important election of our life. Democracy itself is on the ballot.

Like the creation of the Federal Reserve, the Spanish-American War is one of those events that gets only a brief mention in traditional high school history textbooks, yet this war initiated by Teddy Roosevelt, America's first progressive president, transformed America's place in the world forever.

Learn how the explosion aboard an American naval ship moored in Havana's harbor provided the perfect justification for an expansion of military power that Roosevelt had long desired.

Nationalism and American imperialism flourished during the Roosevelt presidency, and they take center stage in this episode of our animated series America: From Republic to Empire. This episode also examines how the late nineteenth century led to a broader conflict between traditional imperial powers and upstart national liberation movements.

From the mind of Historical Controversies' Chris Calton, America: From Republic to Empire, focusing on war and the state, is the Mises Institute’s newest animated series. Catch up on our first three episodes, "What Is Empire?," "Standing Armies," and "Manifest Destiny," now!

In this series, we look at America's transformation from republic to empire and the consequences of Washington's conquests abroad on the country at home.

One conclusion we can draw here is that more people are working second jobs to make ends meet. This would make sense given what other information we have about the state of household finances at the moment.

In another sign of weakness for the job market, the total number of employed persons in the United States fell, month over month, in October. That’s the third time in the last seven months this total has fallen, dropping to approximately 158 million.
