l.Introduction The human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) attacks the human immune cells and affects their function. It is the highest burden that occurs in a developing country. Ethiopia is one of the top ten countries in the world, which has a high burden of HIV-infected children. Even if the country works hard on the PMCT program, still there is challenging on MTCT reduction. Objective The purpose of this study was to assess the prevalence of HIV-positive infants born to HIV-positive mothers attending anti-retroviral treatment (ART) services at the University of Gondar specialized hospital, Gondar, northwest Ethiopia, 2018. Methods A retrospective chart review study was conducted from February to April 2018, among HIV-exposed infants who born to HIV-positive mothers in ART service at the University of Gondar specialized hospital. A systematic sampling method was applied to select study participants. Data were entered into EPI info version 7 statistical software and transferred to SPSS version 20 for analysis. Results In this study, 239 participants were enrolled, with a 98.8% response rate. The prevalence of HIV-positive infants born to HIV-positive mothers was 5.5% with a 95% CI (3.0-8.5%). Of the mothers, 77.1% were within 25-35 years of age range. Of the total infants, 56.8% were males. From these HIV-positive infants, 13 (5.5%) were born from age ranges of 25-35years old mothers, 9(3.8%) were females, 8(3.4%) were 6-11 months old, 13 (5.5%) were post-term gestation, and 13 (5.5%) were maternal CD4+ less than 350/mm3. Conclusion and Recommendations The prevalence of HIV-positive infants born to HIV-positive mothers in this study was lower than the previous 10.2%. To reduce such infant HIV infection to zero, it needs proactive action from stakeholders, health professionals, and the community at large. © 2020 Kassie et al.Background Post-tooth extraction socket preservation is necessary due to alveolar bone resorptive patterns through regenerative dentistry approaches that involve the use of stem cells, scaffold and growth factor. Stem cells derived from human exfoliated deciduous teeth (SHED) are known to potentially possess the osteogenic ability. Meanwhile, carbonate apatite scaffold (CAS) can act as a biocompatible scaffold capable of supporting mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) to proliferate and differentiate optimally. The aim of this study is to investigate the expression of bone morphogenic protein-2 and 7 (BMP2, BMP7) and Matrix Metalloproteinase-8 (MMP-8) after the transplantation of SHED-incorporated CAS during in vivo bone remodeling. Material and Methods A total of 14 healthy, male, Wistar rats, whose mandible anterior teeth were extracted by means of sterile needle holder clamps, constituted the subjects of this study of alveolar bone defects. Two research groups were created a control group (CAS) as group I and an experimental group (CAS + SHED) as group II. SHED with a density of 106 cells were incorporated into CAS before being transplanted into the experimental group. After 7 days, all the animals were sacrificed and their mandible anterior region extracted. The BMP2, BMP7 and MMP-8 expression were subsequently analyzed by means of immunostaining. An unpaired t-test was conducted to analyze the treatment and control group (p less then 0.01) data. Results The expression of BMP-2 and BMP-7 was higher in group II compared to group I. Meanwhile, the level of MMP-8 was lower in group II than group I. There was greater significant increased expression of BMP-2 and BMP-7 expression in Group II compared to Group I. There was significant decreased expression of MMP-8 between group II than group I (p less then 0.01). Conclusion SHED-incorporated CAS can enhance BMP-2 and BMP-7 expression while attenuating MMP-8 expression during in vivo alveolar bone remodeling. © 2020 Prahasanti et al.Introduction Treatment options for peritoneal metastases (PM) from colorectal cancer (CRC) have increased, their efficiency should be monitored. For this purpose, register-based data on PM can be used, if valid. Purpose We aimed to evaluate the completeness and positive predictive value (PPV) of synchronous peritoneal metastases (S-PM) registered among CRC patients in the Danish National Patient Register (DNPR) and/or the Danish National Pathology Register (the DNPatR) using the Danish Colorectal Cancer Group database (DCCG) as a reference. Patients and Methods We identified Danish patients with newly diagnosed primary CRC in the DCCG during 2014-2015. S-PM were routinely registered in the DCCG. We excluded patients with non-CRC cancers and identified S-PM using all three registries. We estimated the completeness and the PPV of registered S-PM in the DNPR, the DNPatR and the DNPR and/or the DNPatR (DNPR/DNPatR) in combination using the DCCG as the reference. We stratified by age, gender, WHO performance statuged to register the presence of S-PM to increase the validity of register-based S-PM data. © 2020 Ravn et al.Introduction Chronic hypoparathyroidism is a rare disorder. The disease is characterized by low serum calcium, high serum phosphate, and deficient production of parathyroid hormone. The most common etiology is unintentional damage and intentional removal to the parathyroid glands during anterior neck surgery. Other causes include genetic disorders and autoimmune diseases. Knowledge about the epidemiology of chronic hypoparathyroidism is sparse and the prevalence in Sweden is unknown. It is of importance to know the validity of the registers used to study the epidemiology of hypoparathyroidism in Sweden. The purpose of this study was to validate the International Classification of Diseases - 10th revision (ICD-10) diagnosis of hypoparathyroidism in the Swedish National Patient Register. Methods We included patients with the ICD-10 diagnosis of hypoparathyroidism that were found in the Swedish National Patient Register during 2004 to 2016. Through the unique national registration number assigned to all Swedish inhabitants, we could link this information to the Swedish Prescribed Drug Register. We included patients with an ICD-10 diagnosis for hypoparathyroidism and on concurrent conventional treatment for the disease. The validation of the diagnosis was assessed through review of medical records of 120 patients. Results A total of 958 patients, 70% women (n=671) and 30% men (n=287) met the inclusion criteria. In total, 120 randomly chosen medical records were reviewed and 109 cases were confirmed. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/cenicriviroc.html This corresponds to an overall positive predictive value of 91%. Conclusion The validity of the ICD-10 diagnosis of hypoparathyroidism in the Swedish National Patient Register is high and the register is a reliable source for further research. There is a risk of miscoding when assigning an ICD-code to the medical records. We urge clinicians to be aware of this risk, especially the risk of mix-ups with the more common diagnosis of hyperparathyroidism. © 2020 Kamal et al.
