Our results suggested that application of marmelosin could be beneficial in ameliorating chromium-induced apoptotic cell death by suppressing oxidative stress and regulating excessive DNA damage. PRACTICAL APPLICATIONS The study focused on protective mechanism of marmelosin from Aegle marmelos against chromium-induced oxidative stress for the first time. In this research, we reported that marmelosin effectively ameliorated K2 Cr2 O7 -induced morphological changes such as oxidative stress and apoptotic cell death by regulating Gadd45, Bcl-2, Bax, and Caspase 3 gene expressions, and inhibition of intracellular ROS and RNS. The study provides a better understanding of the pharmacological mechanisms of Aegle marmelos and its bioactive compound, that is, marmelosin in the management of intoxication of heavy metals associated with excessive DNA damage.
The Rome IV criteria for disorders of gut-brain interaction define irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) as a functional bowel disorder associated with frequent abdominal pain of at least 1day per week. In contrast, functional diarrhea (FD) and functional constipation (FC) are relatively painless. We compared differences in mood and somatization between Rome IV IBS and FC/FD.

A total of 567 patients with Rome IV defined IBS or FD/FC completed a baseline questionnaire on demographics, abdominal pain frequency, mood (hospital anxiety and depression scale, HADS), and somatization (patient health questionnaire, PHQ-12). The primary analysis compared differences in mood and somatization between IBS and FC/FD, and the relative influence of abdominal pain frequency on these extra-intestinal symptoms. The secondary analysis evaluated differences across individual IBS subtypes, and also between FC and FD.

The corpora cardiaca were dissected, methanolic extracts prepared, peptides separated by liquid chromatography (LC), and AKHs detected and sequenced by ion trap mass spectrometry. Both species investigated contain an octapeptide AKH the trichopteran species has the peptide with the sequence pGlu-Leu-Thr-Phe-Thr-Pro-Ser-Trp amide; the ambiguity of the isobaric amino acids Leu and Ile at position two was solved by comparing retention times on LC and by co-elution with the synthetic Leu2 -form. This peptide is known as Aedae-AKH and found in certain dipteran species and in an alderfly (Megaloptera). The tridactyloid species contains the peptide with the sequence pGlu-Val-Asn-Phe-Ser-Pro-Gly-Trp amide which had first been identified in a member of the order Mantophasmatodea and is called Manto-CC. Comparisons are made between the AKH complements of the sister groups Trichoptera and Lepidoptera and their possible relatedness and, on the other hand, between the AKH of X. capensis with those of closely related caeliferan superfamilies. The biology of the two studied species is used to speculate about a possible function of the elucidated hormones. Lastly, the use of a larval stage as starting material for structural neuropeptide information is discussed.
The utility of minimally-invasive liver resection (MILR) for deep centrally located tumours (CLT) remains controversial. We aimed to review our institution's experience and outcomes with minimally invasive central hepatectomy (CH) and right anterior sectionectomy (RAS) for CLT in a propensity score-matched (PSM) analysis.

Retrospective review of a prospectively maintained surgical database revealed 23 patients who underwent MILR (6 CH, 17 RAS) and 53 patients who underwent open liver resection (OLR; 24 CH, 29 RAS) for CLT. PSM in a 11 ratio identified two groups of patients with similar baseline clinicopathological characteristics. Peri-operative outcomes were then compared.

There was one laparoscopic-assisted, one robot-assisted and two laparoscopic-converted-open procedures in the MILR cohort. Across the unmatched cohort, there was only one mortality (MILR) and five patients with major morbidity (all OLR). MILR was associated with a longer operating time (P < 0.001), but shorter post-operative hospital stay (P = 0.002) and decreased morbidity (P = 0.018) in the unmatched cohort. Examination of peri-operative outcomes after PSM revealed that MILR was similarly associated with a longer operating time (P = 0.001) and shortened post-operative hospital stay (P = 0.043). OLR was associated with a significantly reduced application of Pringle manoeuvre (P = 0.004). There were no significant differences between MILR and OLR with regards to blood loss, blood transfusions, morbidity and margin status in the PSM analysis.

The congenital oligodontia impeding the development of the alveolar process resulting in disproportionate jaw growth has been previously reported. This case report describes the interdisciplinary management of an 11-year-old girl with Axenfeld-Rieger syndrome exhibiting oligodontia and maxillary hypoplasia.

An adjunctive orthodontic therapy was performed by taking advantage of bone-anchored maxillary protraction (BAMP) therapy using miniplates and 24-hour traction by intermaxillary Class III elastics. After 6months of active treatment, the maxilla advanced by approximately 5mm and upper lip relation improved by 3mm without any significant changes in vertical relations. All the changes were maintained at 15th-month follow-up. A temporary removable prosthesis was given for immediate esthetics, and the definitive management is discussed.

The BAMP therapy can be a befitting alternative in cases exhibiting complex presentation involving skeletal and dentoalveolar components. An appreciable profile improvement without any dentoalveolar side effects can be achieved with BAMP therapy.
