From Tom Woods' Newsletter:

"Boy, was NPR unhappy when Elon Musk affixed the "US state-affiliated media" label to them on Twitter, the same way other state-allied media outlets around the world are designated.

How dare he!

And yet in the wake of a leaker disclosing information about Ukraine that embarrassed the U.S. regime, the NPR coverage has focused on demonizing the leaker himself rather than bothering to explore the issues raised by the information he released.

That's exactly how state-affiliated media outlets behave.

This exchange between Tucker Carlson and journalist Glenn Greenwald sums it up nicely:

Greenwald: I can't think of an incident, Tucker, that reveals more vividly the real function of our nation's largest media corporations than what just happened here. If you're a real journalist, somebody who's devoted to transparency, shining a light on the most powerful government actors when they lie to the American people and informing the public, you would be celebrating this person who stepped forward and risked his security to show his fellow citizens that the government was lying about this incredibly important war with a nuclear-armed power, that we have actual troops deployed on the ground in Ukraine, there's going to be no diplomatic resolution through at least 2023, that Zelensky is planning on using our weapons to strike deep into Russia -- which we were told would never happen -- risking escalation.

He did the job of what journalists claim to do, which is show the public the truth. If you work for the intelligence agencies, you would be furious at this person. You would hate him because he revealed that you just lied. He exposed the truth about what you were doing.

What's amazing is, The New York Times, The Washington Post, all the people who were at that Pentagon briefing today, think the way the CIA and the Pentagon think: they hate this person.

It was The New York Times and The Washington Post that did the FBI's work and found the leaker and led the FBI to him. They're demanding that he be punished. They're demanding that the government clamp down and keep things more and more secret.

What kind of journalist would ever do that, would see a leak [and then] expose and punish, and then demand that the government keep even more secrets? But that is what this these media corporations are there to do.

They love leaks when the CIA and Homeland Security tell them to leak. That's when they disseminate propaganda to the public -- like they did during the Trump years, when they leaked the transcript between Michael Flynn and Ambassador Kislyak, the most serious kind of leaking crime. The Washington Post did that. Nobody looked for that leaker. Nobody cared. Everybody cheered because it served the interests of the security state.

But when it comes to transparency that undermines the agenda of these agencies and that proves to the American people what the truth is, it's amazing that these journalists are on the side of the government and will actually hunt down the leaker and demand that he be punished even more.

Carlson: I just don't understand how any journalist could collaborate in hiding the fact that we're in a direct hot war with Russia. Maybe you support that, maybe you don't. But how could you hide something that significant -- the most significant fact of our generation -- from the public? How could you do that?

Greenwald: The only answer is that you don't actually have a journalistic mindset, that you far more identify your job as working for the government than working for the American people.

If you look at the history of the most important journalism stories, it's exactly insiders like Daniel Ellsberg who sees that the government is lying to the American people about the war in Vietnam, saying we're winning when in reality, privately they're saying we're losing. And he goes and he shows the American people the truth.

Or Edward Snowden, who heard James Clapper falsely deny the NSA was spying on American people. He had the evidence in his hand and he risked his security to show the truth. Same things WikiLeaks did.

This is what you celebrate in journalism. Our journalists, meaning the media. Corporations hate this because they actually work for their government. That is their true allegiance.

This exchange leads nicely into the first of my two action items for today:

(2) For my would-be entrepreneurs, this is one of the most important weeks of the year. My favorite online business model (I run three such businesses) is the membership. Instead of making one sale, you make recurring sales, over and over.

The best thing about membership-based businesses is that you don't have to worry that your success this month may have been a fluke, and maybe in six months you'll be homeless. That's the way to a nervous breakdown.

Once a year the world's top expert on memberships (my guest on Tom Woods Show episode #2313, in fact) runs a no-pitch, no-cost workshop on how to launch and run a successful membership. It will be wasted on most people. You, dear reader, are not most people. Reserve your spot right away so you can live capitalism instead of just arguing about it on the Internet:

From the Tom Woods Newsletter:
"I evidently touched a nerve yesterday in thinking aloud about how trustworthy the medical establishment is, given what we saw them do over the past three years.

The responses I got were numerous and insistent: the confidence we have had in it has been misplaced.

As I said, this isn't a position I ever expected to adopt. But here we are.

The email introduced my audience to a new magazine, Renegade Health, that my friend who goes by the name Doc Anarchy has just launched. I hope it succeeds beyond his wildest dreams, because heaven knows we need it.

As it turns out, numerous doctors wound up replying to that email to say, in effect: you don't know the half of it.

I thought you might want to read one of them:

The problem is many layers deep. Being a retired doctor and researcher, I can tell you that even if you're dealing with a caring, concerned, careful physician, one who might even try as best he/she can to "keep up" with the literature (which is essentially how to keep up with how to use the newest drugs in some way, shape, or form) you're also dealing with a physician that was brought up in the Medical Matrix, where training is in drugs, tests, and expensive diagnostics and procedures.

There is essentially NO training whatsoever in how to help people be healthy or stay healthy, in natural medicines, in use of old-time meds repurposed for novel uses, in use of supplements or special foods for treatment, etc.

My cardiologist brother is one of the kindest, most generous, most thoughtful people I've ever met, yet he, because of his training, is unknowingly also one of the most arrogantly ignorant, as in, "if I don't know it or believe it, then it's either not true or not important."

He wouldn't say that in so many words, but when I told him several years ago that unfortunately the system of "medicine" in the US, especially at the top and in the agencies, has been totally corrupted by money and a revolving door with BigPharmafia, he interrupted me mid-sentence and said, "You could never convince me of that, so don't even try."

He went on to state that he has good friends in research who do their best to find cures, blah blah blah, not even really hearing what I said. I was in the system for >20 years before I started to realize just how compromised the system was.

Anyway, I now tell people that they need to start learning for themselves how to take care of themselves, until the system can be changed to once again focus on health and natural solutions, and not on expensive and dangerous toxins.

As a doctor, I have some training in diagnosis and examination and in use of some useful drugs and of drug side-effects, etc., but I am FAR from being a competent healer, in the true sense of the word. And I'm one that saw the Matrix for what it was >20 years ago, meaning I'm in a small minority and most of the rest are even more useless.

Whoa.

So as with so many other things we have to do to protect ourselves against what the state does to us -- getting our kids educated without having them indoctrinated into alien ideologies, or protecting our purchasing power against the regime's stupid and evil "monetary policy," to name two -- we are on our own.

Let me rephrase that. We are on our own in the sense that no official outlet is going to help us. But we are not on our own in the sense that a great many good people are out there who think the way you and I do and are available to help us navigate these treacherous waters.

When it comes to health, Doc Anarchy is one of those good people.

From Tom Woods' Newsletter:

It requires little elaboration to understand why receiving death threats might sharpen one's opinions on the merits of gun ownership.

I would guess that somewhere in the neighborhood of 80 percent of my readers are familiar with JP Sears. He had a way of hilariously skewering crazy social trends without being overtly ideological. We weren't even completely sure where he stood, but we knew he had to be at least in part on the side of sanity.

Recently, Sears has become much more open about his views. And it turns out that one issue on which from our point of view Sears had been unsound was guns.

He had a fairly rapid recent conversion on the subject. Here's an excerpt from his episode in the forthcoming Firearms and Freedoms docuseries:

Sears: When I started seeing our freedoms getting eroded, my mind really started to pivot on guns, going from "I think we'd be better off without guns" to neutral to quickly "oh, no, no, guns are very essential to protect the sovereignty of the individual and truly the U.S. Constitution and what America is founded on, which is freedom."

Interviewer: What made you start looking at that differently?

Sears: I started looking at the pandemic and the restrictions erosions of freedom. I think a couple of things. One is when the goalposts started to be moved.

Interviewer: Which was only two weeks.

Sears: Yeah, we we're still in the first 15 days to slow the spread. Time is going slow, apparently. So the goalposts start getting moved. And I had my suspicions right from the get-go by goalposts getting moved, suspicions start to be confirmed, and I start using my own critical thinking about here's what we know, here's what's being implemented; something doesn't add up. So I would say the beginning of March 2020, I was fairly anti-gun. End of March 2020, I was pretty damn pro-gun.

Interviewer: Wow, that was fast.

Sears: It was fast. It's a rebirth.

Interviewer: This switch happened really fast for you. You were not anti-gun, but like gun restrictions, all that made sense. Don't need a gun in this country, you're in a good area, to yeah, I need guns.

To me, it's interesting you didn't really mention self-defense. This is against a tyrannical government. You went there first?

Sears: I did go there first. And for me, self-defense is a part of it. And truly my biggest passion for guns is in fact to protect U.S. citizens from a tyrannical government -- which honestly, part of me hears myself say that and it's like, no, that's crazy, because I spent the first 39 years of my life bathing in ignorance of tyrannical governments. They could never happen here.

Yet my own critical thinking says that's very much happening here. It could certainly go further, but I see things as, tyrannical government corruption is happening here. So that was the biggest switch in my mind.

And then of course, you mentioned self-defense. That's not insignificant in my mind. I've had being in the public eye to a degree, I've had death threats come in against me and my family.

Interviewer: Well, because you've chosen a side.

Sears: I've chosen I would say the epicenter of freedom. People rally against freedom because maybe communism will work this time. Never has before.... I don't take myself too seriously, but I take my family's safety extremely seriously. So the first time we encountered death threats, that was the the motivation to actually purchase my first gun.
