Prior research shows that highly religious consumers are more stable through times of uncertainty, in part due to religious support networks. However, several situations (e.g., pandemics, epidemics, natural disasters, mass shootings) represent unique changes where routine large gatherings are restricted due to uncertainty. In such situations, highly religious consumers may experience the greatest disruption to life, potentially resulting in stability-seeking consumption behaviors. Three studies test and confirm this relationship in the coronavirus pandemic context. Specifically, study 1 shows that priming awareness of restricted in-person religious gatherings increases consumption in comparison to a general religious prime or control condition. Study 2 confirms that consumers with higher (lower) levels of religiosity are the most (least) likely to increase consumption, and that situational concern and stability found through purchasing sequentially mediate this relationship. Study 3 provides practical implications revealing that stability-based messaging reduces consumption in comparison to standard social distancing messaging.Quasi-zero stiffness (QZS) vibration isolators can provide better isolation performance in the low frequency range than linear vibration isolators. Currently, most of the designed QZS isolators perform vibration isolation only in one direction and few papers are focused on simultaneously isolating the vibrations in two directions. In this paper, an integrated translational-rotational QZS vibration isolator is designed by using the cam-roller mechanism. The proposed QZS system is able to provide the high-static-low-dynamic stiffness in two directions simultaneously. The excitations in both translational and rotational directions are considered independent but with mutual interaction to their induced vibration response. The workable ranges of the QZS system and its limitations are first numerically identified. Then the static characteristics and typical nonlinear dynamic response with jump phenomena are theoretically investigated. The jump-down frequencies for small amplitude oscillations are determined from their amplitude-frequency relationships. Furthermore, the force transmissibility and moment transmissibility of the proposed QZS system are compared with those of the corresponding linear system without the cam-roller mechanism, which clearly demonstrate better isolation performance in both translational and rotational directions.COVID-19 has affected millions of people across the world but disproportionately and severely affects persons with metabolic disorders such as obesity, diabetes mellitus and hypertension. In this brief review, we discuss the pathways of immune dysregulation that may lead to severe COVID-19 in persons with metabolic conditions. In recent decades, several dozen colleges and universities have instituted loan-reduction initiatives (LRIs), such as "no-loan" programs. Institutions frequently cast such initiatives as efforts to increase socioeconomic diversity on campus. Using a difference-in-differences analytic strategy with national institution-level data, we examine the effect of LRI adoption at 54 institutions on three sets of outcomes student borrowing, admission metrics, and campus diversity. Our analysis suggests LRIs decreased institution-level borrowing rates at private institutions, with no detected change at public institutions. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/molidustat-(bay85-3934).html Consistent with stated program goals, LRI adoption increased the number of Pell Grant recipients at both public and private institutions. However, adopting LRIs at public institutions reduced racial/ethnic diversity, suggesting possible trade-offs for LRI adoption in terms of student body diversity. Many U.S. households lack access to healthful food and rely on inexpensive, processed food with low nutritional value. Surveying access to healthful food is costly and finding the factors that affect access remains convoluted owing to the multidimensional nature of socioeconomic variables. We utilize machine learning with census tract data to predict the modified Retail Food Environment Index (mRFEI), which refers to the percentage of healthful food retailers in a tract and agnostically extract the features of no access-corresponding to a "food desert" and low access-corresponding to a "food swamp." Our model detects food deserts and food swamps with a prediction accuracy of 72% out of the sample. We find that food deserts and food swamps are intrinsically different and require separate policy attention. Food deserts are lightly populated rural tracts with low ethnic diversity, whereas swamps are predominantly small, densely populated, urban tracts, with more non-white residents who lack vehicle access. Overall access to healthful food retailers is mainly explained by population density, presence of black population, property value, and income. We also show that our model can be used to obtain sensible predictions of access to healthful food retailers for any U.S. census tract. As the COVID-19 pandemic expands, the shortening of medical equipment is swelling. A key piece of equipment getting far-out attention has been ventilators. The difference between supply and demand is substantial to be handled with normal production techniques, especially under social distancing measures in place. The study explores the rationale of human-robot teams to ramp up production using advantages of both the ease of integration and maintaining social distancing. The paper presents a model for faster integration of collaborative robots and design guidelines for workstations. The scenario is evaluated for an open source ventilator through continuous human-robot simulation and amplification of results in a discrete event simulation.Significant progress has been made using fMRI to characterize the brain changes that occur in ASD, a complex neuro-developmental disorder. However, due to the high dimensionality and low signal-to-noise ratio of fMRI, embedding informative and robust brain regional fMRI representations for both graph-level classification and region-level functional difference detection tasks between ASD and healthy control (HC) groups is difficult. Here, we model the whole brain fMRI as a graph, which preserves geometrical and temporal information and use a Graph Neural Network (GNN) to learn from the graph-structured fMRI data. We investigate the potential of including mutual information (MI) loss (Infomax), which is an unsupervised term encouraging large MI of each nodal representation and its corresponding graph-level summarized representation to learn a better graph embedding. Specifically, this work developed a pipeline including a GNN encoder, a classifier and a discriminator, which forces the encoded nodal representations to both benefit classification and reveal the common nodal patterns in a graph.

Given such success, GAE provides another minimally invasive treatment option for knee OA to patients who feel reluctant to undergo or are ineligible for surgery. The authors review the radiographic manifestations and current standard of treatment of OA and hemarthrosis of the knee. Procedural technique, embolic selection, and clinical evidence for GAE in the treatment of OA and hemarthrosis of the knee are also explored. The online slide presentation from the RSNA Annual Meeting is available for this article. ©RSNA, 2021.An innovative mid-infrared spectroscopic sensor system based on quantum cascade lasers has been developed. The system combines the versatility of substrate-integrated hollow waveguides (IHWGs) with the robustness of attenuated total reflection (ATR) crystals employed as internal reflection waveguides for evanescent field sensing. IHWGs are highly reflective metal structures that propagate infrared (IR) radiation and were used as light pipes for coupling radiation into the ATR waveguide. The combined IHWG-ATR device has been designed such that the utmost stability and robustness of the optical alignment were ensured. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/hs148.html This novel assembly enables evanescent field absorption measurements at yet unprecedently harsh conditions, that is, high pressure and temperature. Combining these advantages, this innovative sensor assembly is perfectly suited for taking ATR spectroscopy into the field where the robustness of the assembly and optical alignment is essential.HIV status disclosure rates to sexual partners are low in Tanzania, despite the benefits it confers to both partners. This qualitative study drew on the Disclosure Decision Model to explore the decision by people living with HIV (PLHIV) to disclose, or not, their HIV status to their partner. Six focus group discussions and thirty in-depth interviews were conducted in Mwanza, Tanzania in 2019 with PLHIV. Topics covered decision-making around disclosure and disclosure experiences. Thematic content analysis was conducted. Most respondents reported having disclosed their status to their partners. Disclosure was reported to facilitate or hinder the attainment of social goals including having intimate relationships, raising a family, relief from distress and accessing social support. Decisions made by PLHIV about whether to disclose their status were made after weighing up the perceived benefits and risks. The sense of liberty from a guilty conscious, and not "living a lie" were perceived as benefits of disclosure, while fears of stigma, family break-up or abandonment were perceived as risks. Many participants found disclosure was beneficial in promoting their adherence to treatment and clinic appointments. Interventions to support PLHIV with disclosure should include enhanced counselling, strengthening HIV support groups and enhanced assisted partner notification services.
Although the management of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) has improved in major way over the last decades, this disease still leads to an important burden for patients and society, and there is a need to develop more personalized approaches. Machine learning (ML) methods are more and more used in health-related studies and can be applied to different sorts of data (clinical, radiological, or 'omics' data). Such approaches may improve the management of patients with RA.

In this paper, we propose a review regarding ML approaches applied to RA. A scoping literature search was performed in PubMed, in September 2021 using the following MeSH terms 'arthritis, rheumatoid' and 'machine learning'. Based on this search, the usefulness of ML methods for RA diagnosis, monitoring, and prediction of response to treatment and RA outcomes, is discussed.

ML methods have the potential to revolutionize RA-related research and improve disease management and patient care. Nevertheless, these models are not yet ready to contribute fully to rheumatologists' daily practice. Indeed, these methods raise technical, methodological, and ethical issues, which should be addressed properly to allow their implementation. Collaboration between data scientists, clinical researchers, and physicians is therefore required to move this field forward.

The isotope ratios of P. clarkii and the dietary resources in rice fields and its feeding niche volumes were 'conservative' as proposed. This result broadly supported the assumption of the laboratory feeding experiment that animals should be fed a single diet exhibiting a constant isotopic composition. Using standard ellipse areas (SEA) to screen the data, growth- and time-dependent models of carbon and nitrogen isotopes of females and males were obtained. The Δ13C and its half-lives for females and males were 0.67 (21.0 d) and 0.91 (33.0 d), whereas Δ15N and its half-lives for those were 3.45 (17.8 d) and 3.05 (17.3 d), respectively. The results of integrated rice-crayfish culture without artificial diets provides a reference example for future studies on species-specific discrimination factors in specific field habitats.
This is the 38
Annual Report of the American Association of Poison Control Centers' (AAPCC) National Poison Data System (NPDS). As of 1 January, 2020, all 55 of the nation's poison centers (PCs) uploaded case data automatically to NPDS. The upload interval was 6.15 [4.60, 8.62] (median [25%, 75%]) minutes, effectuating a near real-time national exposure and information database and surveillance system.

We analyzed the case data tabulating specific indices from NPDS. The methodology was similar to that of previous years. Where changes were introduced, the differences are identified. Cases with medical outcomes of death were evaluated by a team of medical and clinical toxicologist reviewers using an ordinal scale of 1-6 to assess the Relative Contribution to Fatality (RCF) of the exposure.

In 2020, 3,316,738 closed encounters were logged by NPDS 2,128,198 human exposures, 66,745 animal exposures, 1,116,568 information requests, and 5,160 human confirmed nonexposures. Total encounters showed a 28.9% incrgn body, infectious, venomous, chemical agent, or commercial product), and the identification and tracking of significant public health events. NPDS is a model system for the near real-time surveillance of national and global public health.
These data support the continued value of PC expertise and need for specialized medical toxicology information to manage more serious exposures. Unintentional and intentional exposures continue to be a significant cause of morbidity and mortality in the US. The near real-time status of NPDS represents a national public health resource to collect and monitor US exposure cases and information contacts. The continuing mission of NPDS is to provide a nationwide infrastructure for surveillance for all types of exposures (e.g., foreign body, infectious, venomous, chemical agent, or commercial product), and the identification and tracking of significant public health events. NPDS is a model system for the near real-time surveillance of national and global public health.
In the last 15years, huge efforts against Alzheimer's disease (AD) with drugs targeting β-amyloid (Aβ) and tau have produced poor clinical results. Aducanumab, a recently FDA-approved anti-Aβ monoclonal antibody has been greeted with distrust by most experts, hospitals and insurance companies for its level of efficacy and poor tolerability.

We reviewed literature on Alzheimer trials using PubMed, meeting abstracts and ClnicalTrials.gov and discuss what we can learn from past failures of investigational drugs for Alzheimer's disease, especially anti-Aβ and anti-tau drugs.

It is our opinion that previous failures of anti-AD drugs suggest that soluble Aβ and tau are not appropriate drug targets. In addition, pivotal clinical trials of future clinical candidates should avoid major protocol amendments and futility analyses. Study protocols should adopt better measures to protect study blinding and minimize the potential introduction of major biases in the evaluation of clinical results. Finally, alternative biological targets should be pursued as well as more multimodal approaches to addressing neurodegeneration in AD.

The study aimed to examine whether oral reading prosody-the use of acoustic features (e.g., pitch and duration variations) when reading passages aloud-predicts reading fluency and comprehension abilities.

We measured vocabulary, syntax, word reading, reading fluency (including rate and accuracy), reading comprehension (in Grades 3 and 4), and oral reading prosody in Taiwanese third-grade children (
= 109). In the oral reading prosody task, children were asked to read aloud a passage designed for third graders and then to answer forced-choice questions. Their oral reading prosody was measured through acoustic analyses including the number of pause intrusions, intersentential pause duration, phrase-final comma pause duration, child-adult pitch match, and sentence-final pitch change.

Analyses of variance revealed that children's number of pause intrusions differed as a function of word reading. After controlling for age, vocabulary and syntactic knowledge, and word reading, we found that different dimensions of oral reading prosody contributed to reading rate. In contrast, the number of pause intrusions, phrase-final comma pause duration, and child-adult pitch match predicted reading accuracy and comprehension.

Oral reading prosody plays an important role in children's reading fluency and reading comprehension in tone languages like Mandarin. Specifically, children need to read texts prosodically as evidenced by fewer pause intrusions, shorter phrase-final comma pause duration, and closer child-adult pitch match, which are early predictive makers of reading fluency and comprehension.

Contrary, values of other pollution parameters were observed to be well within the permissible limits. The cluster analysis distinguishingly summarized the monitoring data into four clusters types, named as severely polluted, moderately polluted, satisfactory, and fine. The PCA analysis of monitored data resulted in identification of prominent emission sources of analyzed pollutants. These sources were mainly found to be associated with coal burning in power plants, agricultural activities, vehicular emissions, and mining activities. The minimum AQI was observed as 87 at Orient (mine no. 4) and Kinjirma which is under satisfactory category, whereas maximum AQI was observed at Bhedabahal with a value of 132 which is under moderate category. Overall, the results of this study indicated that the air pollution of industrial areas must be evaluated thoroughly on regular basis, considering the sustainability of societies and expanding industries.Ischemic heart disease is a major cause of global morbidity and mortality, affecting over 15 million patients in the United States. Recent advances in research and innovation have greatly broadened clinicians' ability to treatment ischemic heart disease and associated heart failure using various preventive, pharmacologic, and surgical strategies. Specifically, innovative photosynthetic symbiotic systems using Synechococcus elongatus has gained significant attention. S. elongatus is a unicellular cyanobacterium that can carry out oxygenic photosynthesis. Photosynthetic therapies have been developed to rescue ischemic tissue by taking up tissue-derived carbon dioxide and in turn releasing oxygen for sustained aerobic metabolism during ischemia. In this article, we review the application of cyanobacteria, specifically S. elongatus, in the field of biotechnology, ischemic heart disease, and other clinical applications in ischemic diseases. We also address the motivation for innovation and current limitations in the field of S. elongatus photosynthetic therapeutics for ischemic cardiovascular disease. To promote skilled forelimb function following a spinal cord injury, we have evaluated whether long-term voluntary sensorimotor rehabilitation can promote substantial reaching and grasping recovery. Long-Evans rats were trained to reach single pellets and then received a moderate 100 kdyn contusion to the C5 lateral funiculi. During the first eight months post-injury, a group of animals was enrolled in daily skilled reaching rehabilitation consisting of grabbing and manipulating seeds from the bottom of a grid. Single-pellet reaching and grasping recovery was tested biweekly throughout the functional follow-up and the recovery was compared to a second group of contused but non-rehabilitated animals. Following the injury, reaching and grasping success dropped to zero in both groups and remained absent for three months post-injury, followed by a slight recovery that remained constant until the end of the follow-up. No differences in reaching success were found between groups. Nevertheless, the type of gesture ey and drives the recovery of the movement gestures. However, the plasticity achieved is insufficient to attain full functional recovery to successfully reach, grasp and release the pellets in the mouth, indicating the necessity for additional interventional therapies to promote repair.Obstructive sleep apnea-hypopnea syndrome (OSAHS) is widely known for its multiple systems damage, especially neurocognitive deficits in children. Since their discovery, adenosine A2A receptors (A2ARs) have been considered as key elements in signaling pathways mediating neurodegenerative diseases such as Huntington's and Alzheimer's, as well as cognitive function regulation. Herein, we investigated A2AR role in cognitive impairment induced by chronic intermittent hypoxia (CIH). Mice were exposed to CIH 7 h every day for 4 weeks, and intraperitoneally injected with A2AR agonist CGS21680 or A2AR antagonist SCH58261 half an hour before IH exposure daily. The 8-arm radial arm maze was utilized to assess spatial memory after CIH exposures. To validate findings using pharmacology, the impact of intermittent hypoxia was investigated in A2AR knockout mice. CIH-induced memory dysfunction was manifested by increased error rates in the radial arm maze test. The behavioral changes were associated with hippocampal pathology, neuronal apoptosis, and synaptic plasticity impairment. The stimulation of adenosine A2AR exacerbated memory impairment with more serious neuropathological damage, attenuated long-term potentiation (LTP), syntaxin down-regulation, and increased BDNF protein. Moreover, apoptosis-promoting protein cleaved caspase-3 was upregulated while anti-apoptotic protein Bcl-2 was downregulated. Consistent with these findings, A2AR inhibition with SCH58261 and A2AR deletion exhibited the opposite result. Overall, these findings suggest that A2AR plays a critical role in CIH-induced impairment of learning and memory by accelerating hippocampal neuronal apoptosis and reducing synaptic plasticity. Blockade of adenosine A2A receptor alleviates cognitive dysfunction after chronic exposure to intermittent hypoxia in mice.
To investigate which preoperative findings portend poor improvement in storage symptoms in patients undergoing plasma kinetic enucleation of prostate (PKEP).

A single surgeon series of patients who had undergone PKEP with minimum 1 year follow up were evaluated. Patients were grouped into those with less than 33% improvement in storage symptoms (LIS) according to the international prostate symptom score (IPSS) and those with greater than 33% improvement in storage symptoms (GIS). Pre and postoperative factors were evaluated, along with IPSS, storage symptoms percentage (the total from frequency, urgency and nocturia divided by the total IPSS), bother index, and post void residual (PVR) at 6 weeks, 4 months, and yearly.

Two hundred sixty-eight patients had a minimum 1 year of follow up and had completed the IPSS. IPSS and bother index improved significantly from preoperatively to all time points post operatively in both groups, but the difference was greater in the GIS group. Patients in the GIS group had significantly larger prostates, more prostatic ingrowth, higher preoperative PVR, and a higher overall IPSS compared to the LIS group. https://www.selleckchem.com/Bcl-2.html Those in the LIS group had a higher incidence of prior prostate surgery, and a higher BMI. However, storage symptom percentages were equal between the GIS and LIS groups at all time points.

Greater prostatic ingrowth, larger prostate volume, higher preoperative PVR volume, and a higher overall IPSS was associated with greater improvement in storage symptoms. Prior prostate surgery and higher BMI portend less improvement in storage symptoms.

To assess sperm retrieval rates of Onco-Testicular Sperm Extraction (oncoTESE) in men with testicular tumors and coexisting severe spermatogenic impairment.

Multi-centre Australian wide retrospective review of oncoTESE procedures performed within the last 10 years. Patients were postpubertal adults having a testicular tumor requiring orchidectomy, with severe oligozoospermia or nonobstructive azoospermia. Ipsilateral testicular sperm extraction was performed following radical inguinal orchidectomy. A contralateral micro-testicular sperm extraction was performed if no sperm or insufficient amounts were initially achieved. Surgical sperm retrieval rates, live birth rates and post operative serum testosterone were recorded.

Four surgeons compiled a total 13 patients. The mean age was 34.9 years. Seven of 13 were germ cell tumor (GCT), 4 of 13 had non-GCT and 2 of 13 contained benign lesions. Twelve of 13 patients were azoospermic and 1 was severely oligozoospermic. Sperm was found in 6 of 7 GCT patients; 3ould be considered in the management for TC patients with severe oligozoospermia, or nonobstructive azoospermia.A case of bladder necrosis in an 8-year-old female at time of presentation of ulcerative colitis (UC) is presented. A case of bladder necrosis in a pediatric patient outside of the neonatal period has not been reported. The patient presented with abdominal pain, bloody stools, hematuria, and acute renal failure. She was acutely management with bilateral nephrostomy tube placement. Bladder and colon biopsies revealed diagnosis of UC and bladder necrosis. The UC was medically managed. The bladder did not regenerate after several months of observation and ileal conduit urinary diversion was performed. A right proximal ureteral stricture was managed by pyeloplasty at time of ileal conduit. The patient is doing well over 1 year after surgery.
To determine if limited food access census tracts and food swamp census tracts are associated with increased risk for repeat kidney stone surgery. And to elucidate the relationship between community-level food retail environment relative to community-level income on repeat stone surgery over time.

Data were abstracted from the University of California, San Francisco Information Commons. Adult patients were included if they underwent at least one urologic stone procedure. Census tracts from available geographical data were mapped using Food Access Research Atlas data from the United States Department of Agriculture Economic Research Service. Kaplan-Meier curves were employed to illustrate time to a second surgical procedure over 5 years, and log-rank tests were used to test for statistically significant differences. A multivariate Cox regression model was used to generate hazard ratios for undergoing second surgery by group.

A total of 1496 patients were included in this analysis. Repeat stone surgery occurred in 324 patients. Kaplan-Meier curves demonstrated a statistically significant difference in curves depicting patients living in low income census tracts (LICTs) vs those not living in LICTs (P <.001). On Cox regression models, patients in LICTs had significantly higher risk of undergoing repeat surgery (P=.011). Patients from limited food access census tracts and food swamp census tracts did not have a significantly higher adjusted risk of undergoing second surgery (P=.11 and P=.88, respectively).

Income more so than food access associates with increased risk of repeat kidney stone surgery. Further research is needed to explore the interaction between low socioeconomic status and kidney stone outcomes.

To compare the perioperative and postoperative outcomes of single port (SP) robotic pyeloplasty and multiport (MP) robotic pyeloplasty using a propensity-score matched analysis.

We performed a chart review of all patients who underwent SP robotic pyeloplasty from January 2019 to October 2020 and MP robotic pyeloplasty from January 2016 to October 2020. Patient demographics, intraoperative data, and postoperative outcomes were collected and analyzed. Propensity-score matching was performed on sex, body mass index, and history of previous pyeloplasty to adjust for potential baseline confounders. A post hoc sensitivity analysis for operative time was performed to examine the robustness of the results.

In total, 24 and 41 patients underwent sSP and MP robotic pyeloplasty, respectively. Following propensity-score matching, 21 MP cases were matched 11 to SP cases. The SP group was shown to have longer median operative times (128.0 vs 88.0 minutes, P = .0411) and shorter follow up time (9.3 vs 18.7 months, P = .
