Malignant lymphoma developing during anti-PD-1 antibody treatment is extremely rare. A 74-year-old female was admitted with left hypochondrial pain. She was diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma of the right upper lobe of the lung, and had undergone surgery and postoperative chemotherapy three years prior. Needle biopsy of a mediastinal lymph node revealed recurrent lung cancer (LC). Pembrolizumab (PEM) monotherapy was started as salvage treatment. Although her lymphadenopathy improved, thrombocytopenia and splenomegaly developed during treatment with nine doses of PEM. Laboratory findings included anemia, increased lactate dehydrogenase, and soluble interleukin-2 receptor levels of 6379 U/mL. Flow cytometry of peripheral blood and bone marrow showed CD20+, κ ≪  λ cell populations. IGH-BCL2 fusion was detected by fluorescence in situ hybridization in bone marrow. Positron emission tomography showed abnormal uptake in tonsils, both cervical lymph nodes, mediastinum (different location from the recurrent LC), spleen, and abdominal cavity. Follicular lymphoma (FL) grade 1/2 was histologically diagnosed by tonsillar biopsy. She achieved a complete metabolic response (CMR) after rituximab monotherapy on PEM discontinuation. Relapsed FL was diagnosed by submandibular gland biopsy four months after restarting PEM and she achieved a second CMR after rituximab-containing chemotherapy. We describe the first case of newly diagnosed FL during PEM treatment.Severe aplastic anemia and congenital amegakaryocytic thrombocytopenia are rare bone marrow failure syndromes. Here, we describe a case of new-onset food anaphylaxis after CBT in an adult patient that demonstrates that post-CBT allergen-challenge is not a risk for long-term allergic sensitization even in adult recipients. The patient was a 39-year-old Japanese man with aggressive NK cell leukemia. He had no previous history of allergies. After receiving CBT, the patient had an unbalanced diet with high preference for bread, bananas, miso-soup, cow's milk, cheese, egg, sesame and buckwheat soba noodles, and experienced repeated diarrhea. Six months later, he developed symptoms such as vomiting, epigastric pain, diarrhea, high fever and hypotension. The condition was initially diagnosed as enterocolitis, but symptoms recurred after consumption of buckwheat. Anaphylaxis induced by buckwheat was confirmed with serum radioallergosorbent tests (RAST), showing allergen-specific IgE for buckwheat (greater than 100 U/mL, Class 6) and egg ovomucoid (Class 4). Nineteen months after a buckwheat and egg-free diet, serum RAST for buckwheat and egg significantly improved. As a result, the patient acquired a tolerance and was able to consume buckwheat and egg without allergic symptoms.
We aimed to explore the first data on the fauna of cestodes in rodents from the Lower Anabar River Basin situated in extreme north-western Yakutia, Russia and to develop a biological and biogeographical framework for examination of the species diversity of cestodes from Yakutia, which is an important faunal transition zone in the eastern Palaearctic.

Field inventory of cestodes from rodents was conducted for the first time in the region of north-western Yakutia. Species diversity, intensity and prevalence of infection were assessed.

It was noted a rather high (up to 82.5%) total cestode prevalence in rodents in the extreme north-western area of Yakutia. In Arvicolinae hosts, we collected specimens of six cestode species of four genera and three families. Arostrilepis microtis and Douthittia nordenskioeldi were first collected in voles Lasiopodomys gregalis from Yakutia (new host and geographical records). The zoonotic parasite Echinococcus multilocularis was found in the liver of L. gregalis. The list o prevalence of the definitive hosts, which is relatively high in this region.Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is one of the vital causes of morbidity and mortality, and the number of deaths from CVD has increased worldwide. Circular RNAs (circRNAs) is a novel type of endogenous noncoding RNA, which can form covalent closed continuous rings and are highly expressed in the eukaryotic transcriptome. In recent years, research on circRNAs have been increasing and the researchers have also become cumulatively aware of the association between circRNAs and CVD. This review highlights the biogenesis and functions of circRNAs and the role in cardiovascular diseases.
The aim of the present study was to elucidate the functional role of hsa-miR-328-3p/STAT3 pathway in the effects of propofol on gastric cancer proliferation.

Bioinformatics was used to analyze the molecular expression differences of hsa-miR-328-3p/STAT3 axis in stomach adenocarcinoma (n = 435) and normal samples (n = 41) from TCGA database. The expression of the above molecules in gastric cancer cells SGC-7901 and normal gastric mucosal cells GES-1 was verified via qPCR. The dual-luciferase assay was carried out to confirm the interaction between hsa-miR-328-3p and STAT3. Subsequently, the cell proliferation and the expression of the above molecules in SGC-7901 and GES-1 cells were evaluated after 10μM propofol treatment. Finally, we analyzed whether propofol still inhibited the proliferation of gastric cancer by suppressing STAT3 pathway after hsa-miR-328-3p down-regulation.

Compared with normal samples, the expression of hsa-miR-328-3p was significantly down-regulated in stomach adenocarcinoma samples, while the expression of STAT3 and downstream target genes (MMP2, CCND1 and COX2) was up-regulated. The results were consistent with those in GES-1 and SGC-7901 cell lines. Meanwhile, we found that hsa-miR-328-3p can bind to the 3'-UTR of the potential target gene STAT3. Furthermore, propofol significantly inhibited the proliferation of gastric cancer cell line SGC-7901, where hsa-miR-328-3p was up-regulated and the expression of STAT3 and downstream proliferation-related target genes were down-regulated. However, the growth inhibition of propofol on SGC-7901 cell was significantly reversed after the inhibition of hsa-miR-328-3p.

To sum up, propofol suppressed the STAT3 pathway via up-regulating hsa-miR-328-3p to inhibit gastric cancer proliferation.

The discovery of essential proteins is of great importance in revealing the molecular mechanisms and biological processes. Owing to the tedious biological experiment, many numerical methods have been developed to discover key proteins by mining the features of the high throughput data. Appropriate integration of differential biological information based on protein-protein interaction (PPI) network has been proven useful in predicting essential proteins. The main intention of this research is to provide a comprehensive study and a review on identifying essential proteins by integrating multi-source data and provide guidance for researchers. Detailed analysis and comparison of current essential protein prediction algorithms have been carried out and tested on benchmark PPI networks. In addition, based on the previous method TEGS (short for the network Topology, gene Expression, Gene ontology, and Subcellular localization), we improve the performance of predicting essential proteins by incorporating known protein complex information, the gene expression profile, Gene Ontology (GO) terms information, subcellular localization information, and protein's orthology data into the PPI network, named CEGSO. The simulation results show that CEGSO achieves more accurate and robust results than other compared methods under different test datasets with various evaluation measurements.Accumulating evidence witnesses the negative influence of air pollution on human health, but the relationship between air pollution and premature babies has been inconsistent. In this study, the association between weekly average concentration of air pollutants and preterm birth (PTB) was conducted in Xuzhou, a heavy industry city, in China. We constructed a distributed lag non-linear model (DLNM), an ecological study, to access the associations between ambient air pollutants and PTB in this study. Totally, 5408 premature babies were included, and the weekly average levels of PM2.5, PM10, SO2, NO2, O3, and CO were 61.24, 110.21, 22.55, 40.55, 104.45, and 1.04 mg/m3, respectively. We found that PM2.5, PM10, SO2, and NO2 significantly increased the risk of PTB, and the susceptibility windows of these contaminants were the second trimester and third trimester (from 12 to 29 weeks). A Cochrane Library and PubMed (MEDLINE) examination related to the position of PFA in PF-OA was carried out. A number of publications have encountered that PFA is an efficacious treatment for solitary PF-OA. Computed Tomography (CT) images can be used as an alternative to the time-consuming RT-PCR test, to detect COVID-19. In this work we propose a segmentation framework to detect chest regions in CT images, which are infected by COVID-19. We use an architecture similar to U-Net model, and train it to detect ground glass regions, on pixel level. As the infected regions tend to form a connected component (rather than randomly distributed pixels), we add a suitable regularization term to the loss function, to promote connectivity of the segmentation map for COVID-19 pixels. 2D-anisotropic total-variation is used for this purpose, and therefore the proposed model is called "TV-UNet". Through experimental results on a relatively large-scale CT segmentation dataset of around 900 images, we show that adding this new regularization term leads to 2\% gain on overall segmentation performance compared to the U-Net model. Our experimental analysis, ranging from visual evaluation of the predicted segmentation results to quantitative assessment of segmentation performance (precision, recall, Dice score, and mIoU) demonstrated great ability to identify COVID-19 associated regions of the lungs, achieving a mIoU rate of over 99\%, and a Dice score of around 86\%.In this paper we consider the signal-to-interference-and-noise ratio (SINR) optimization problem in the multi-user multi-input-single-output (MISO) uplink wireless network assisted by intelligent reflecting surface (IRS) under individual information rate constraints. We perform a comprehensive investigation on various aspects of this problem. First, under the individual rate constraints, we study its feasibility. We present a sufficient condition which guarantees arbitrary set of individual information rates. This result strengthens the feasibility condition in existing literature and is useful to the power control/energy efficiency (EE) maximization problem when IRS is present. Background and objectives Cytokine thymic stromal lymphopoietin (TSLP) plays a pivotal role in the pathogenesis of atopic diseases such as atopic dermatitis, allergic rhinitis, and asthma. Resveratrol (RSV) exerts various pharmacological effects such as antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, neuroprotective, and anticancer. Although, it has been verified the beneficial effects of RSV on various subjects, the effect of RSV on thymic stromal lymphopoietin (TSLP) regulation has not been elucidated. Materials and Methods Here, we examined how RSV regulates TSLP in HMC-1 cells. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, real-time polymerase chain reaction, Western blotting, and calcium assay were performed to evaluate the effect of RSV. Results TSLP production and mRNA expression were reduced by RSV. RSV down-regulated nuclear factor-κB activation, IκBα phosphorylation as well as activation of receptor-interacting protein2 and caspase-1 in HMC-1 cells. In addition, RSV treatment decreased the up-regulation of intracellular calcium in HMC-1 cells. Conclusions These results suggest that RSV might be useful for the treatment of atopic diseases through blocking of TSLP.Multiple myeloma is an incurable malignant tumor of plasma cells of the bone marrow; most patients present a disseminated disease with important bone involvement. Even though a chemotherapy-based approach is the major treatment, radiotherapy often has a supportive role for symptom relief but also a radical role for patients with indolent disease or localized forms. In both cases imaging is the basis for treatment planning and for correct patient classification. This paper aims to describe and summarize how radiation oncologists could use imaging information to personalize the treatment for each patient.Insulin resistance is a risk of sarcopenia, and the presence of sarcopenia is high in patients with type 2 diabetes (T2DM). It has been reported that habitual miso soup consumption was associated with lower insulin resistance. However, the association between habitual miso consumption and the presence of sarcopenia in patients with T2DM, especially sex difference, was unclear. In this cross-sectional study, 192 men and 159 women with T2DM were included. Habitual miso consumption was defined as consuming miso soup regularly. Having both low skeletal muscle mass index ( less then 28.64% for men, less then 24.12% for women) and low adjusted hand grip strength ( less then 51.26% for men, less then 35.38% for women) was defined as sarcopenia. The proportions of sarcopenia were 8.7% in men and 22.6% in women. The proportions of habitual miso consumption were 88.0% in men and 83.6% in women. Among women, the presence of sarcopenia was lower in the group with habitual miso consumption (18.8% versus 42.3%, p = 0.018); however, there was no association between habitual miso consumption and the presence of sarcopenia in men. Habitual miso consumption was negatively associated with the presence of sarcopenia in women (adjusted odds ratio (OR), 0.20 (95% confidence interval (CI) 0.06-0.62), p = 0.005) but not in men. This study indicated that habitual miso consumption was associated with the presence of sarcopenia in women but not in men.CD8+ T cells detect and kill infected or cancerous cells. Depending on the method, between 54% and 98% of measured metabolic features change in a time-dependent manner, with the major changes in both polar metabolites and lipids occurring in the first 48 h. However, the function of the nonoperative knee, hamstring strength at deep flexion, and neuromuscular control have been overlooked. This prospective observational study was performed to investigate the outcomes after ACLR in operative and nonoperative knees between supervised and home-based rehabilitations. Materials and Methods After surgery, instructional videos demonstrating the rehabilitation process and exercises were provided for the home-based rehabilitation group. The supervised rehabilitation group visited our sports medicine center and physical therapists followed up all patients during the entire duration of the study. Isokinetic muscle strength and neuromuscular control (acceleration time (AT) and overall stability index (OSI)) of both operative and nonoperative knees, as well as patient-reported knee functir, the supervised rehabilitation group showed higher scores at 1 year (87.3 ± 5.8 vs. 75.6 ± 15.1, p = 0.016). The patient was a 39-year-old Japanese man with aggressive NK cell leukemia. He had no previous history of allergies. After receiving CBT, the patient had an unbalanced diet with high preference for bread, bananas, miso-soup, cow's milk, cheese, egg, sesame and buckwheat soba noodles, and experienced repeated diarrhea. Six months later, he developed symptoms such as vomiting, epigastric pain, diarrhea, high fever and hypotension. The condition was initially diagnosed as enterocolitis, but symptoms recurred after consumption of buckwheat. Anaphylaxis induced by buckwheat was confirmed with serum radioallergosorbent tests (RAST), showing allergen-specific IgE for buckwheat (greater than 100 U/mL, Class 6) and egg ovomucoid (Class 4). Nineteen months after a buckwheat and egg-free diet, serum RAST for buckwheat and egg significantly improved. As a result, the patient acquired a tolerance and was able to consume buckwheat and egg without allergic symptoms.
We aimed to explore the first data on the fauna of cestodes in rodents from the Lower Anabar River Basin situated in extreme north-western Yakutia, Russia and to develop a biological and biogeographical framework for examination of the species diversity of cestodes from Yakutia, which is an important faunal transition zone in the eastern Palaearctic.

Field inventory of cestodes from rodents was conducted for the first time in the region of north-western Yakutia. Species diversity, intensity and prevalence of infection were assessed.

It was noted a rather high (up to 82.5%) total cestode prevalence in rodents in the extreme north-western area of Yakutia. In Arvicolinae hosts, we collected specimens of six cestode species of four genera and three families. Arostrilepis microtis and Douthittia nordenskioeldi were first collected in voles Lasiopodomys gregalis from Yakutia (new host and geographical records). The zoonotic parasite Echinococcus multilocularis was found in the liver of L. gregalis. In recent years, research on circRNAs have been increasing and the researchers have also become cumulatively aware of the association between circRNAs and CVD. This review highlights the biogenesis and functions of circRNAs and the role in cardiovascular diseases.
The aim of the present study was to elucidate the functional role of hsa-miR-328-3p/STAT3 pathway in the effects of propofol on gastric cancer proliferation.

Bioinformatics was used to analyze the molecular expression differences of hsa-miR-328-3p/STAT3 axis in stomach adenocarcinoma (n = 435) and normal samples (n = 41) from TCGA database. The expression of the above molecules in gastric cancer cells SGC-7901 and normal gastric mucosal cells GES-1 was verified via qPCR. The dual-luciferase assay was carried out to confirm the interaction between hsa-miR-328-3p and STAT3. Subsequently, the cell proliferation and the expression of the above molecules in SGC-7901 and GES-1 cells were evaluated after 10μM propofol treatment. Finally, we analyzed whether propofol still inhibited the proliferation of gastric cancer by suppressing STAT3 pathway after hsa-miR-328-3p down-regulation.

Compared with normal samples, the expression of hsa-miR-328-3p was significantly down-regulated in stomach adenocarcinoma samples, while the expression of STAT3 and downstream target genes (MMP2, CCND1 and COX2) was up-regulated. The results were consistent with those in GES-1 and SGC-7901 cell lines. Meanwhile, we found that hsa-miR-328-3p can bind to the 3'-UTR of the potential target gene STAT3. Furthermore, propofol significantly inhibited the proliferation of gastric cancer cell line SGC-7901, where hsa-miR-328-3p was up-regulated and the expression of STAT3 and downstream proliferation-related target genes were down-regulated. However, the growth inhibition of propofol on SGC-7901 cell was significantly reversed after the inhibition of hsa-miR-328-3p.

To sum up, propofol suppressed the STAT3 pathway via up-regulating hsa-miR-328-3p to inhibit gastric cancer proliferation.

Appropriate integration of differential biological information based on protein-protein interaction (PPI) network has been proven useful in predicting essential proteins. The main intention of this research is to provide a comprehensive study and a review on identifying essential proteins by integrating multi-source data and provide guidance for researchers. Detailed analysis and comparison of current essential protein prediction algorithms have been carried out and tested on benchmark PPI networks. In addition, based on the previous method TEGS (short for the network Topology, gene Expression, Gene ontology, and Subcellular localization), we improve the performance of predicting essential proteins by incorporating known protein complex information, the gene expression profile, Gene Ontology (GO) terms information, subcellular localization information, and protein's orthology data into the PPI network, named CEGSO. The simulation results show that CEGSO achieves more accurate and robust results than other compared methods under different test datasets with various evaluation measurements.Accumulating evidence witnesses the negative influence of air pollution on human health, but the relationship between air pollution and premature babies has been inconsistent. In this study, the association between weekly average concentration of air pollutants and preterm birth (PTB) was conducted in Xuzhou, a heavy industry city, in China. We constructed a distributed lag non-linear model (DLNM), an ecological study, to access the associations between ambient air pollutants and PTB in this study. Totally, 5408 premature babies were included, and the weekly average levels of PM2.5, PM10, SO2, NO2, O3, and CO were 61.24, 110.21, 22.55, 40.55, 104.45, and 1.04 mg/m3, respectively. We found that PM2.5, PM10, SO2, and NO2 significantly increased the risk of PTB, and the susceptibility windows of these contaminants were the second trimester and third trimester (from 12 to 29 weeks). A number of publications have encountered that PFA is an efficacious treatment for solitary PF-OA. Computed Tomography (CT) images can be used as an alternative to the time-consuming RT-PCR test, to detect COVID-19. In this work we propose a segmentation framework to detect chest regions in CT images, which are infected by COVID-19. We use an architecture similar to U-Net model, and train it to detect ground glass regions, on pixel level. As the infected regions tend to form a connected component (rather than randomly distributed pixels), we add a suitable regularization term to the loss function, to promote connectivity of the segmentation map for COVID-19 pixels. 2D-anisotropic total-variation is used for this purpose, and therefore the proposed model is called "TV-UNet". Through experimental results on a relatively large-scale CT segmentation dataset of around 900 images, we show that adding this new regularization term leads to 2\% gain on overall segmentation performance compared to the U-Net model. Our experimental analysis, ranging from visual evaluation of the predicted segmentation results to quantitative assessment of segmentation performance (precision, recall, Dice score, and mIoU) demonstrated great ability to identify COVID-19 associated regions of the lungs, achieving a mIoU rate of over 99\%, and a Dice score of around 86\%.In this paper we consider the signal-to-interference-and-noise ratio (SINR) optimization problem in the multi-user multi-input-single-output (MISO) uplink wireless network assisted by intelligent reflecting surface (IRS) under individual information rate constraints. Background and objectives Cytokine thymic stromal lymphopoietin (TSLP) plays a pivotal role in the pathogenesis of atopic diseases such as atopic dermatitis, allergic rhinitis, and asthma. Resveratrol (RSV) exerts various pharmacological effects such as antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, neuroprotective, and anticancer. Although, it has been verified the beneficial effects of RSV on various subjects, the effect of RSV on thymic stromal lymphopoietin (TSLP) regulation has not been elucidated. Materials and Methods Here, we examined how RSV regulates TSLP in HMC-1 cells. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, real-time polymerase chain reaction, Western blotting, and calcium assay were performed to evaluate the effect of RSV. Results TSLP production and mRNA expression were reduced by RSV. RSV down-regulated nuclear factor-κB activation, IκBα phosphorylation as well as activation of receptor-interacting protein2 and caspase-1 in HMC-1 cells. In addition, RSV treatment decreased the up-regulation of intracellular calcium in HMC-1 cells. It has been reported that habitual miso soup consumption was associated with lower insulin resistance. However, the association between habitual miso consumption and the presence of sarcopenia in patients with T2DM, especially sex difference, was unclear. In this cross-sectional study, 192 men and 159 women with T2DM were included. Habitual miso consumption was defined as consuming miso soup regularly. Having both low skeletal muscle mass index ( less then 28.64% for men, less then 24.12% for women) and low adjusted hand grip strength ( less then 51.26% for men, less then 35.38% for women) was defined as sarcopenia. The proportions of sarcopenia were 8.7% in men and 22.6% in women. The proportions of habitual miso consumption were 88.0% in men and 83.6% in women. Among women, the presence of sarcopenia was lower in the group with habitual miso consumption (18.8% versus 42.3%, p = 0.018); however, there was no association between habitual miso consumption and the presence of sarcopenia in men. Habitual miso consumption was negatively associated with the presence of sarcopenia in women (adjusted odds ratio (OR), 0.20 (95% confidence interval (CI) 0.06-0.62), p = 0.005) but not in men. Depending on the method, between 54% and 98% of measured metabolic features change in a time-dependent manner, with the major changes in both polar metabolites and lipids occurring in the first 48 h. The statistical analysis highlighted the remodeling of the polyamine biosynthesis pathway, with marked differences in the dynamics of precursors, intermediates, and cofactors. Moreover, phosphatidylcholines, the major class of membrane lipids, underwent a drastic shift in acyl chain composition with polyunsaturated species decreasing from 60% to 25% of the total pool and specifically depleting species containing a 204 fatty acid. Grazing by herbivorous protists contributes to structuring plankton communities through its effect on the growth, biomass, and competitiveness of prey organisms and also impacts the transfer of primary production towards higher trophic levels. Previous evidence shows that heterotrophic processes (grazing rates, g) are more sensitive to temperature than autotrophic ones (phytoplankton growth rates, μ) and also that small cells tend to be more heavily predated than larger ones; however, it remains unresolved how the interplay between changes in temperature and cell size modulates grazing pressure (i.e., gμ ratio). We addressed this problem by conducting an experiment with four phytoplankton populations, from pico- to microphytoplankton, over a 12 °C gradient and in the presence/absence of a generalist herbivorous protist, Oxyrrhis marina. We found that highest g rates coincided with highest μ rates, which corresponded to intermediate cell sizes. There were no significant differences in either μ or g between the smallest and largest cell sizes considered. The gμ ratio was largely independent of cell size and CN ratios, and its thermal dependence was low although species-specific differences were large. We suggest that the similar gμ found could be the consequence that the energetic demand imposed by rising temperatures would be a more important issue than the mechanical constriction to ingestion derived from prey cell size. Despite the difficulty of quantifying μ and g in natural planktonic communities, we suggest that the gμ ratio is a key response variable to evaluate thermal sensitivity of food webs because it gives a more integrative view of trophic functioning than both rates separately.Natural ponds in the Brazilian Cerrado harbor high biodiversity but are still poorly studied, especially their microbial assemblage. The characterization of the microbial community in aquatic environments is fundamental for understanding its functioning, particularly under the increasing pressure posed by land conversion and climate change. Here, we aim to characterize the structure (abundance, richness, and diversity) and composition of the Bacteria and Archaea in the sediment of two natural ponds belonging to different basins that primarily differ in size and depth in the Cerrado. Sediment samples were collected in the dry and rainy seasons and the transition periods between both. The structure and composition of Bacteria and Archaea were assessed by 16S rRNA gene pyrosequencing. We identified 45 bacterial and four archaeal groups. Proteobacteria and Acidobacteria dominated the bacterial community, while Euryarchaeota and Thaumarchaeota dominated the archaeal community. Seasonal fluctuations in the relative abundance of microbial taxa were observed, but pond characteristics were more determinant to community composition differences. Microbial communities are highly diverse, and local variability could partially explain the microbial structure's main differences. Functional predictions based in 16S rRNA gene accessed with Tax4Fun indicated an enriched abundance of predicted methane metabolism in the deeper pond, where higher abundance of methanogenic archaea Methanocella, Methanosaeta, and Methanomicrobiaceae was detected. Our dataset encompasses the more comprehensive survey of prokaryotic microbes in Cerrado's aquatic environments. A secondary aim of this study was to assess the psychometric validity of the Amsterdam Misophonia Scale (A-Miso-S) questionnaire tool in this population. The A-Miso-S was administered online to medical students at the University of Nottingham. To assess the validity of the A-Miso-S, a factor analysis was conducted. To determine prevalence and severity the results of the questionnaire were quantitatively analysed using SPSS. Actor analysis was conducted. Free text responses to one questionnaire item were analysed using a thematic approach. Responses were obtained from 336 individuals. Clinically significant misophonic symptoms appear to be common, effecting 49.1% of the sample population. This is statistically significantly higher prevalence than previous studies have found (p  less then  0.00001). Using the classification of the A-Miso-S, mild symptoms were seen in 37%, moderate in 12%, severe in 0.3% of participants. No extreme cases were seen. The A-Miso-S was found to be a uni-factorial tool, with good internal consistency. This study has provided new information on misophonia and validity of the A-Miso-S questionnaire in a sample population of UK undergraduate medical students. The results indicate that misophonia is a phenomenon that a significant proportion of medical students experience though only a small subset experience it severely.Detection of lead(II) (Pb2+) ions in water is important for the protection of human health and environment. The growing demand for onsite detection still faces challenges for sensitive and easy-to-use methods. In this work, a novel surface plasmon resonance (SPR) biosensor based on GR-5 DNAzyme and gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) was developed. Thiolated DNAzyme was immobilized on the gold surface of the sensor chip followed by anchoring the substrate-functionalized AuNPs through the DNAzyme-substrate hybridization. The coupling between the localized surface plasmon (LSP) of AuNPs and the surface plasmon polaritons (SPP) on the gold sensor surface was used to improve the sensitivity. The substrate cleavage in the presence of Pb2+ ions was catalyzed by DNAzyme, leading to the removal of AuNPs and the diminished LSP-SPP coupling. The optimal detection limit was 80 pM for the sensor fabricated with 1 μM DNAzyme, corresponding to two or three orders of magnitude lower than the toxicity levels of Pb2+ in drinking water defined by WHO and USEPA.
