Children are vulnerable to PM and acute otitis media (AOM), which is one of the most common diseases in children. However, studies on the relationship between AOM in children and PM are rare and their results are inconsistent. The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of PM on AOM in children on the basis of the Korea National Health Insurance service (NHIS) claims data. NHIS claim data from 2008 to 2015 was used to identify outpatient visits, antibiotic use to treat AOM, and demographic data. This data was combined with the data on PM2.5 (≤ 2.5 μm) and PM10 (≤ 10 μm according to its aerodynamic diameter) level extracted from air pollution data from Korean National Institute of Environmental Research for 16 administrative regions. The children with AOM were divided into three age groups ( less then  2, 2-4, 5-10 years). Generalized linear Poisson regression model was used to estimate the association between AOM and PM using daily counts of AOM and daily mean PM concentrations. It was adjusted to temperature, wind, humidity, season, year, age, and region. With an increase in PM2.5 of 10 μg/m3, the relative risk of OM increased by 4.5% in children under 2 years of age. The effect of PM2.5 was strongest influence on the day of exposure. The exposure to PM10 was related to the incidence of AOM on the day of exposure and the following seven days in all three age groups. The PM concentrations did not strongly affect either AOM duration or the use of antibiotics to cure AOM. The RR in the each lag day after exposure to PM10 was diverse according to the age groups. Regardless of PM size and children's age, the PM levels are positively related to the incidence of AOM. Mean and SD concentrations of PM10 and PM2.5 were 20.17 ± 3.91 μg/m3 and 10.83 ± 2.08 μg/m3 respectively. During follow-up 282 cases of incident hypertension were recorded. In the fully adjusted model, compared with the lowest quartile of PM10, the multivariate weighted ORs (95% CIs) for developing hypertension with increasing PM10 exposures were 0.82 (0.59-1.14), 1.28 (0.93-1.78) and 1.45 (1.05-2.01) in quartile 2, 3 and 4 respectively (p for a trend of 0.003). The corresponding weighted ORs according to PM2.5 exposures were 0.80 (0.57-1.13), 1.11 (0.80-1.53) and 1.48 (1.09-2.00) (p for trend 0.004). For each 5-μg/m3 increment in PM10 and PM2.5 concentrations, the odds for incident hypertension increased 1.22 (1.06-1.41) p = 0.007 and 1.39 (1.07-1.81) p = 0.02 respectively. In conclusion, our study contributes to assessing the impact of particulate pollution on the incidence of hypertension in Spain, reinforcing the need for improving air quality as much as possible in order to decrease the risk of cardiometabolic disease in the population.The aim of this study was to measure macular perfusion in patients with type 1 diabetes and no signs of diabetic retinopathy (DR) using volume rendered three-dimensional (3D) optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA). We collected data from 35 patients with diabetes and no DR who had OCTA obtained. An additional control group of 35 eyes from 35 healthy subjects was included for comparison. OCTA volume data were processed with a previously presented algorithm in order to obtain the 3D vascular volume and 3D perfusion density. In order to weigh the contribution of different plexuses' impairment to volume rendered vascular perfusion, OCTA en face images were binarized in order to obtain two-dimensional (2D) perfusion density metrics. Mean ± SD age was 27.2 ± 10.2 years [range 19-64 years] in the diabetic group and 31.0 ± 11.4 years [range 19-61 years] in the control group (p = 0.145). The 3D vascular volume was 0.27 ± 0.05 mm3 in the diabetic group and 0.29 ± 0.04 mm3 in the control group (p = 0.020). The 3D perfusion density was 9.3 ± 1.6% and 10.3 ± 1.6% in diabetic patients and controls, respectively (p = 0.005). Using a 2D visualization, the perfusion density was lower in diabetic patients, but only at the deep vascular complex (DVC) level (38.9 ± 3.7% in diabetes and 41.0 ± 3.1% in controls, p = 0.001), while no differences were detected at the superficial capillary plexus (SCP) level (34.4 ± 3.1% and 34.3 ± 3.8% in the diabetic and healthy subjects, respectively, p = 0.899). In this study, we tested whether a combination of radiomic features extracted from baseline pre-immunotherapy computed tomography (CT) images and clinicopathological characteristics could be used as novel noninvasive biomarkers for predicting the clinical benefits of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients treated with immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs).

The data from 92 consecutive patients with lung cancer who had been treated with ICIs were retrospectively analyzed. In total, 88 radiomic features were selected from the pretreatment CT images for the construction of a random forest model. Radiomics model 1 was constructed based on the Rad-score. Using multivariate logistic regression analysis, the Rad-score and significant predictors were integrated into a single predictive model (radiomics nomogram model 1) to predict the durable clinical benefit (DCB) of ICIs. Radiomics model 2 was developed based on the same Rad-score as radiomics model 1.Using multivariate Cox proportional hazards regression anicopathological factors can be used prior to the initiation of immunotherapy for identifying NSCLC patients who are the most likely to benefit from the therapy. The aim of this study was to explore the experiences, needs and wishes of healthcare professionals with respect to carrying out a psychosocial and lifestyle assessment of childhood obesity.

Fourteen semi-structured interviews were conducted with Dutch healthcare professionals, who are responsible for coordinating the support and care for children with obesity (coordinating professionals, 'CPs'). The following topics were addressed in our interviews with these professionals CPs' experiences of both using childhood obesity assessment tools and their content, and CPs' needs and wishes related to content, circumstances and required competences. The interviews comprised openr attitude with that of the child and their parents.

Alongside the need for a suitable tool for conducting a psychosocial and lifestyle assessment, CPs expressed the need for requisite knowledge, skills and attitudes. This prospective study explored plaque morphology according to the underlying culprit lesion pathology (rupture versus erosion) in relation to the triglyceride glucose (TyG) index in patients with acute ST-elevated myocardial infarction (STEMI) who underwent primary percutaneous coronary intervention and optical coherence tomography (OCT) for culprit lesions to elucidate the effects of the TyG index and type of plaque on the incidence of major adverse cardiovascular events (MACEs).

A total of 274 patients with STEMI aged ≥ 18years who underwent pre-intervention OCT imaging of culprit lesions between March 2017 and March 2019 were enrolled. Malaria re-emerged in 1993 in the Republic of Korea (ROK), with numbers peaking in 2004 before decreasing to current levels. Eight Anopheles species (Anopheles sinensis, Anopheles pullus, Anopheles belenrae, Anopheles lesteri, Anopheles kleini, Anopheles sineroides, Anopheles koreicus, Anopheles lindesayi) are distributed throughout Korea. Members of the Anopheles Hyrcanus group currently cannot be identified morphologically. The other species of Anopheles can be identified morphologically, except when specimens are damaged in traps. The purpose of this study was to develop a rapid and accurate method for simultaneous molecular identification of the eight Anopheles species present in the ROK.

NHIS claim data from 2008 to 2015 was used to identify outpatient visits, antibiotic use to treat AOM, and demographic data. This data was combined with the data on PM2.5 (≤ 2.5 μm) and PM10 (≤ 10 μm according to its aerodynamic diameter) level extracted from air pollution data from Korean National Institute of Environmental Research for 16 administrative regions. The children with AOM were divided into three age groups ( less then  2, 2-4, 5-10 years). Generalized linear Poisson regression model was used to estimate the association between AOM and PM using daily counts of AOM and daily mean PM concentrations. It was adjusted to temperature, wind, humidity, season, year, age, and region. With an increase in PM2.5 of 10 μg/m3, the relative risk of OM increased by 4.5% in children under 2 years of age. The effect of PM2.5 was strongest influence on the day of exposure. The exposure to PM10 was related to the incidence of AOM on the day of exposure and the following seven days in all three age groups. The PM concentrations did not strongly affect either AOM duration or the use of antibiotics to cure AOM. The RR in the each lag day after exposure to PM10 was diverse according to the age groups. Mean and SD concentrations of PM10 and PM2.5 were 20.17 ± 3.91 μg/m3 and 10.83 ± 2.08 μg/m3 respectively. During follow-up 282 cases of incident hypertension were recorded. In the fully adjusted model, compared with the lowest quartile of PM10, the multivariate weighted ORs (95% CIs) for developing hypertension with increasing PM10 exposures were 0.82 (0.59-1.14), 1.28 (0.93-1.78) and 1.45 (1.05-2.01) in quartile 2, 3 and 4 respectively (p for a trend of 0.003). The corresponding weighted ORs according to PM2.5 exposures were 0.80 (0.57-1.13), 1.11 (0.80-1.53) and 1.48 (1.09-2.00) (p for trend 0.004). For each 5-μg/m3 increment in PM10 and PM2.5 concentrations, the odds for incident hypertension increased 1.22 (1.06-1.41) p = 0.007 and 1.39 (1.07-1.81) p = 0.02 respectively. We collected data from 35 patients with diabetes and no DR who had OCTA obtained. An additional control group of 35 eyes from 35 healthy subjects was included for comparison. OCTA volume data were processed with a previously presented algorithm in order to obtain the 3D vascular volume and 3D perfusion density. In order to weigh the contribution of different plexuses' impairment to volume rendered vascular perfusion, OCTA en face images were binarized in order to obtain two-dimensional (2D) perfusion density metrics. Mean ± SD age was 27.2 ± 10.2 years [range 19-64 years] in the diabetic group and 31.0 ± 11.4 years [range 19-61 years] in the control group (p = 0.145). The 3D vascular volume was 0.27 ± 0.05 mm3 in the diabetic group and 0.29 ± 0.04 mm3 in the control group (p = 0.020). The 3D perfusion density was 9.3 ± 1.6% and 10.3 ± 1.6% in diabetic patients and controls, respectively (p = 0.005). Using a 2D visualization, the perfusion density was lower in diabetic patients, but only at the deep vascular complex (DVC) level (38.9 ± 3.7% in diabetes and 41.0 ± 3.1% in controls, p = 0.001), while no differences were detected at the superficial capillary plexus (SCP) level (34.4 ± 3.1% and 34.3 ± 3.8% in the diabetic and healthy subjects, respectively, p = 0.899). In this study, we tested whether a combination of radiomic features extracted from baseline pre-immunotherapy computed tomography (CT) images and clinicopathological characteristics could be used as novel noninvasive biomarkers for predicting the clinical benefits of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients treated with immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs).

The data from 92 consecutive patients with lung cancer who had been treated with ICIs were retrospectively analyzed. In total, 88 radiomic features were selected from the pretreatment CT images for the construction of a random forest model. Radiomics model 1 was constructed based on the Rad-score. Using multivariate logistic regression analysis, the Rad-score and significant predictors were integrated into a single predictive model (radiomics nomogram model 1) to predict the durable clinical benefit (DCB) of ICIs. Radiomics model 2 was developed based on the same Rad-score as radiomics model 1.Using multivariate Cox proportional hazards regression anicopathological factors can be used prior to the initiation of immunotherapy for identifying NSCLC patients who are the most likely to benefit from the therapy. The following topics were addressed in our interviews with these professionals CPs' experiences of both using childhood obesity assessment tools and their content, and CPs' needs and wishes related to content, circumstances and required competences. The interviews comprised openr attitude with that of the child and their parents.

Alongside the need for a suitable tool for conducting a psychosocial and lifestyle assessment, CPs expressed the need for requisite knowledge, skills and attitudes. This prospective study explored plaque morphology according to the underlying culprit lesion pathology (rupture versus erosion) in relation to the triglyceride glucose (TyG) index in patients with acute ST-elevated myocardial infarction (STEMI) who underwent primary percutaneous coronary intervention and optical coherence tomography (OCT) for culprit lesions to elucidate the effects of the TyG index and type of plaque on the incidence of major adverse cardiovascular events (MACEs).

A total of 274 patients with STEMI aged ≥ 18years who underwent pre-intervention OCT imaging of culprit lesions between March 2017 and March 2019 were enrolled. Eight Anopheles species (Anopheles sinensis, Anopheles pullus, Anopheles belenrae, Anopheles lesteri, Anopheles kleini, Anopheles sineroides, Anopheles koreicus, Anopheles lindesayi) are distributed throughout Korea. This randomized controlled trial included 23 patients who had rapid maxillary expansion (RME). Subjects were randomly assigned to a conventional expansion control group (n = 12) or an overexpansion group (n = 11), who started treatment at 13.2 ± 1.5 and 13.8 ± 1 years of age, respectively. Cone beam computed tomography scans (11 cm) were obtained prior to rapid maxillary expander (RME) delivery and approximately 3.7 months later. Initial hand-wrist radiographs were used to determine the participants' skeletal maturity.

Overexpansion produced significantly greater expansion of the nasal cavity (2.1X-2.5X), maxillary base (2.3X), buccal alveolar crest (1.4X), and greater palatine foramina (1.9X). Significantly greater intermolar width increases (1.8X) and molar inclination (2.8X) changes were also produced. The nasal cavity and maxillary base expanded 23%-32% as much as the screws were activated. Skeletal expansion was positively correlated with RME screw activation (R = 0.61 to 0.70) and negatively correlated (R = -0.56 to -0.64) with the patients' skeletal maturation indicators (SMIs). Together, screw activation and the patients' SMI scores explained 48%-66% of the variation in skeletal expansion.

Data from 1,992 families in Calgary, Alberta (81% White; 47% female; 94% >$40,000 income) from the All Our Families cohort were included. Mothers reported on cumulative social risk (e.g., low income and education, maternal depression) at <25 weeks of gestation, child's temperament at 36 months of age (surgency/extraversion, negative affectivity, effortful control), and child's screen use (hours/day) at 60 months of age. In this study, we used whole-exome sequencing (WES) to determine the variant causing autosomal recessive nonsyndromic hearing loss (ARNSHL) segregating in 3 separate Iranian consanguineous families (with 3 different ethnicities Azeri, Persian, and Lur), followed by cosegregation analysis, computational analysis, and structural modeling using the I-TASSER (Iterative Threading ASSEmbly Refinement) server. Also, we used speech-perception tests to measure cochlear implant (CI) performance in patients.

One small in-frame deletion variant (MYO15A c.8309_8311del (p.Glu2770del)), resulting in deletion of a single amino-acid residue was identified. We found it to be cosegregating with the disease in the studied families. We provide some evidence suggesting the pathogenesis of this variant in HL based on the American College of Medical Genetics (ACMG) and Genomics guidelines. Testing revealed ABO incompatibility between maternal type A and infant type AB. The maternal alloantibody screen was negative. The infant's direct antiglobulin test was positive, and anti-B IgG was eluted off the infant's red blood cells (RBCs). Testing of the mother's plasma revealed a high anti-B titer. The infant was successfully treated with phototherapy and intravenous immunoglobulin. The bilirubin and hematocrit stabilized, and the infant was discharged home. This case was unusual because of its severity and unusual ABO constellation. Furthermore, this report is an exemplary educational case study on how effective collaboration between the clinical team and the blood bank laboratory is critical in reaching the correct diagnosis. Here, we sorted 12 murine adult hematopoietic cell populations at different stages and identified 30,796 editing sites through RNA sequencing. While the dynamic landscape of the RNA editome comprised of stage/group-specific and stable editing patterns, but also undergoing significant changes during lineage commitment. Notably, we found that antizyme inhibitor 1 (Azin1) was highly edited in hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells (HSPCs). Azin1 editing results in (i) an amino acid change to induce Azin1 protein (AZI) translocation to the nucleus, (ii) enhanced AZI binding affinity for DEAD box polypeptide 1 (DDX1) to alter the chromatin distribution of the latter, and (iii) altered expression of multiple hematopoietic regulators which ultimately promotes HSPC differentiation. We discuss the pathophysiological mechanisms that alter the autonomic brain-liver communication in these diseases, and how they could represent important targets to prevent or treat metabolic dysfunctions. We discuss how sympathetic hyperactivity to the liver may represent an early event in the progression of metabolic diseases and could progressively lead to hepatic neuropathy. We hope that this discussion will inspire and help framing a model on the importance of better understanding the chronology of autonomic dysfunctions in the liver in order to apply the right strategy at the right time.The consumption of dietary phytochemicals has been associated with several health benefits and relevant biological activities. It is postulated that biotransformations of these compounds regulated by the microbiota, Phase I/II reactions, transport proteins, and deconjugating enzymes contribute not only to their metabolic clearance but also, in some cases, to their bioactivation. A number of factors (age, genetics, sex, physiopathological conditions, and the interplay with other dietary phytochemicals) modulating metabolic activities are important sources and contributors to the interindividual variability observed in clinical studies evaluating the biological activities of phytochemicals. In this review, we discuss all the processes that can affect the bioaccessibility and beneficial effects of these bioactive compounds. Herein, we argue that the role of these factors must be further studied to correctly understand and predict the effects observed following the intake of phytochemicals. This is, in particular, with regard to in vitro investigations, which have shown great inconsistency with preclinical and clinical studies.

Kidney involvement is frequent among patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), and occurrence of AKI is associated with higher mortality in this population. DESIGN, SETTING, PARTICIPANTS & MEASUREMENTS We conducted a single-center retrospective study to describe the characteristic features of proteinuria measured within 48 hours following admission among patients with COVID-19 admitted in a tertiary care hospital in France, and to evaluate its association with initiation of dialysis, intensive care unit admission, and death.

Among 200 patients with available data, urine protein-creatinine ratio at admission was ≥1 g/g for 84 (42%), although kidney function was normal in most patients, with a median serum creatinine of 0.94 mg/dl (interquartile range, 0.75-1.21). Median urine albumin-creatinine ratio was 110 mg/g (interquartile range, 50-410), with a urine albumin-protein ratio <50% in 92ne protein-creatinine ratio ≥1 g/g at admission is strongly associated with poor kidney and patient outcome.

This article achieves four key issues that were not solved in the previously existing literature 1) the existence of at least one Filippov solution in a discontinuous IPFONN; 2) the existence and uniqueness of periodic oscillation in a nonautonomous IPFONN; 3) global exponential stability of IPFONNs; and 4) impulsive control global Mittag-Leffler stabilization for FONNs.
