The output from pyrolysis has a different composition than traditional fossil-based hydrocarbon streams, and therefore, must be evaluated to correctly process as feedstock. The authors have previously shown that gas chromatography coupled to vacuum ultraviolet detection (GC-VUV) provides accurate identification and quantification of the hydrocarbon composition (paraffins, isoparaffins, olefins, naphthenes, and aromatics - PIONA) of fossil-based liquid hydrocarbon streams.1 Therefore, GC-VUV was evaluated for analysis of the pyrolysis oils from plastic waste. Using an in-house modified spectral library in combination with the PIONA+ software, accurate identification and quantification of the hydrocarbon composition of pyrolysis oils from C4 through C30+ was possible with a limit of detection of 0.1 wt.%. To the best of our knowledge, this article is the first example of accurate PIONA-type quantification of pyrolysis oils by GC-VUV.
A peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC) is often necessary for patients receiving chemotherapy, but there is a risk of PICC-related venous thrombosis (VT). We sought to use the Caprini thrombosis risk model and color Doppler flow imaging for the dynamic monitoring of an eventual thrombosis in patients receiving chemotherapy.

This prospective study was carried out from January 2018 to May 2019 in patients who underwent PICC implantation and maintenance at the First Affiliated Hospital of Fujian Medical University. The outcome event was the occurrence of PICC-related upper extremity venous thrombosis confirmed by color Doppler flow imaging.

A total of 201 participants were enrolled, of whom 108 (53.7%) developed VT. Three participants (1.5%) developed symptomatic VT. Univariable logistic regression analysis suggested that the Caprini score (odds ratio [OR], 1.243; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.074-1.438; P= .003), the PICC model (OR, 0.448; 95% CI, 0.223-0.901; P= .024), and a previous history omit its predictive value in the clinical setting.
The objective of this study was to evaluate the incidence of, the risk factors for, the nature of the disease, and the management of hypersensitivity reaction (HSR) after cyanoacrylate closure (CAC) of incompetent saphenous veins in patients with chronic venous disease.

Data consisting of all incompetent saphenous veins, including great saphenous veins, anterior accessory saphenous veins, and small saphenous veins, treated with CAC at Siriraj Hospital (Bangkok, Thailand) from January 2017 to December 2018 were retrospectively evaluated.

A total of 126 saphenous veins, including 106 great saphenous veins (84.1%), 7 anterior accessory saphenous veins (5.6%), and 13 small saphenous veins (10.3%) of 126 limbs from 101 patients were included. We explored the role of enhanced intracellular oxidative stress and NLRP3 inflammasome activation of platelets in ITP. The expression of NLRP3 inflammasome was assessed in platelets from active ITP patients and healthy donors. Both the mRNA and protein expression level of platelet NLRP3 inflammasome was upregulated in ITP patients compared with healthy donors. Besides, the elevated caspase-1 activity and increased co-localization of NLRP3 and its adaptor molecule ASC indicated activation of NLRP3 inflammasome in ITP platelets. Significantly decreased intracellular antioxidant capacity was observed in ITP platelets. H2O2 supplementation elevated the expression of NLRP3 inflammasome and increased IL-1β secretion in ITP platelets. Preincubating ITP platelets with NAC down-regulated the expression of NLRP3 inflammasome. Pretreating ITP platelets with NLRP3 inhibitor MCC950 or caspase-1 inhibitor Z-YVAD-FMK significantly reduced the proportion of pyroptotic cells in H2O2-treated ITP platelets and suppressed IL-1β secretion in supernatants. This study, through the use of an online anonymous survey, explored the perceptions and expectations of United States (US) pet owners regarding end-of-life issues, with a focus on after-death body care. Participants living in the US who were the current owners of at least one cat or dog, had a regular veterinarian, and had made end-of-life decisions for at least one pet were recruited for the study. Survey respondents included 2043 dog and/or cat owners (41.4% male, 57.9% female) of which 68% had made cremation decisions and 32% had made burial decisions for at least one pet in the past. The majority of these owners indicated they preferred to work with a specific crematory (43%) or cemetery (70%) and over 95% of these owners reported feeling it important to work with their preferred after-death body care service. In terms of guidance, most owners indicated they rely on their veterinary team to help them with end-of-life decisions and orchestrating arrangements on their behalf with tertiary pet aftercare services/companies. Participants indicated being more likely to use veterinary staff for pet death and dying as well as after-death body care and memorialization than any other source. When asked about these after-death body care conversations, 73% indicated they need 20 minutes or less. Participants expressed significant concern over several aspects of after-death body care (e.g., body mislabeling, type of container used for short term and long-term storage). Results of this study create the foundation for practical, ethical after-death body care recommendations to help guide veterinary teams acting on their clients' behalf.

The results presented here showed that there were obvious differences between the species of culturable DOX-RBCs and ARG hosts in the pig farm WWTPs, which may be due to various environmental factors. This highlights the urgent need for further research on the relationship between RBCs and ARG hosts.The phytogenic algicide sanguinarine shows strong inhibitory effects on some bloom-forming cyanobacteria and exhibits great potential in cyanobacterial bloom mitigation. To evaluate the possible ecological effects of sanguinarine on microalgae, the effects and possible mechanisms of sanguinarine on the competition between bloom-forming cyanobacterium Raphidiopsis raciborskii (formerly named Cylindrospermopsis raciborskii) and green alga Scenedesmus obliquus were investigated through co-culture competition test and comparative toxicological study including growth characteristics, chlorophyll fluorescence transients, activities of antioxidant enzymes, and lipid peroxidation. The results of Raphidiopsis-Scenedesmus co-culture competition test showed that sanguinarine decreased the competition ability of R. raciborskii, which benefitted S. obliquus in winning the competition. Toxicological studies have shown that sanguinarine exhibited high inhibitory effects on the growth and photosynthesis of R. raciborskii but no obvious toxicity on S. obliquus at concentrations of no more than 80 μg L-1. These arrangements allowed cells to use more acetyl-CoA and to reduce carbon atom loss. The upregulation of NH3-dependent NAD+ synthetase complemented the NAD+ consumption by catabolism, maintaining the redox balance. The synthesis of 1-deoxy-D-xylulose-5-phosphate was suppressed, which would affect the accumulation of end products of its downstream pathway of isoprenoid synthesis. After recovery culture for 12 h, the state of cells returned to stability and the main impacts on metabolic network triggered by triclocarban have disappeared. However, drug resistance caused by long-term exposure to environmentally relevant concentration of triclocarban is still worthy of attention. The present study revealed the molecular events under triclocarban stress and clarified how triclocarban influence the metabolic networks.This study assesses the occurrence of microplastics (MPs) in coastal and sea surface sediments, as well as water samples, collected from the coastal region of the southern Caspian Sea, Mazandaran province, Iran. A total of 32 sediment and 10 water samples were studied. The mean concentration of MPs was 15 units kg-1 in the sediments and 710 units m-3 in the coastal water. Fibers constituted by far the dominant MPs in both media, accounting for 97% of the MPs in both sediment and water samples. The MPs were mainly black in color. The dominant size of MP particles in sediment samples was between 250 and 500 μm, while the fraction >1000 μm dominated in the water samples. Polyethylene terephthalate (PET), polystyrene (PS), and nylon (NYL) were the main polymers and/or copolymers composing MPs in both sediment and water samples. The MP particles had a relatively smooth surface morphology, although signs of weathering were observed. The number of MP particles in sediment and water samples showed a general decrease from west to east in the study area. This may be reflecting the spreading of MP loading from the outlets of Sefidrud, Tonekabon, Chalus, the major rivers entering the Caspian Sea just west of the study area, and the overall decrease in the spatial distribution of touristic and fishery activity. The main sources of MP particles could be local emissions from a large number of domestic wastewater effluents and urban surface runoff due to high population density, and industrial and fishing activities in this region. This study indicated that MP particles, based on their characteristics and chemical composition, are circulated between coastal waters, and shore and sea surface sediments of the Caspian Sea, leading to their uneven distribution in the different depths. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first work studying the distribution of MP particles in sea surface sediments and also the most comprehensive on MPs in shoreline sediments and coastal waters in the southern Caspian Sea.
The Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education has defined six core competencies (CCs) that every successful physician should possess. However, the assessment of CC achievement among trainees is difficult. This project was designed to prospectively evaluate the impact of resident identification of CC as a component of morbidity review on error identification and standard of care (SOC) assessments. The platform was assessed for its reliability as a measure of resident critical analysis of complication causality across postgraduate year (PGY).

A total of 1945 general surgery cases with complications were assessed for error identification and SOC management between January 1, 2016, and December 31, 2018. CC identification was additionally assessed between January 1, 2019, and December 31, 2019, and included 708 general surgery cases. Data were evaluated for error assessments and overall SOC management. PGY4 and 5 residents were compared for number of cases and complications reviewed, severity, error causation, and CC relevance.

Rice bran dietary fiber (ERBDF) subjected to pre-water-washing and complex enzyme treatment using heat-stable α-amylase, alcalase, and glucoamylase had significantly higher (p less then 0.05) proportions of cellulose, hemicellulose, lignin, and lower proportions of lipid, protein, and starch than rice bran dietary fiber subjected to complex enzyme treatment without pre-water-washing. Cellulase modification of ERBDF significantly decreased (p less then 0.05) cellulose, hemicellulose, starch, and protein contents while the relative lignin content increased. Cellulase modification significantly improved (p less then 0.05) water-holding capacity, oil-holding capacity, swelling capacity, cholesterol absorption capacity, and glucose adsorption capacity, while decreasing the emulsifying capacity and glucose dialysis retardation index. Among the thawing treatments, the carbonyl content, dityrosine content, and surface hydrophobicity of MPs in MAT were the lowest, whereas the total sulfhydryl content, water-holding capacity, and Ca2+-ATPase activity were the highest, suggesting that MAT retained MPs properties better. MAT possessed a more stable tertiary structure and exhibited slight changes in MPs aggregation and degradation. There was an insignificant difference (P > 0.05) in the immobilized water and free water between the MAT samples and FM, indicating a tighter interaction between water and muscle protein in MAT. Thus, MAT could retain the physicochemical and structural properties of MPs, which provided a combination of thawing treatments for application in meat industry.The present work describes the development of an in silico model to predict the retention time (tR) of a large Compound DataBase (CDB) of pesticides detected in fruits and vegetables. The model utilizes ultrahigh-performance liquid chromatography electrospray ionization quadrupole-Orbitrap (UHPLC/ESI Q-Orbitrap) mass spectrometry (MS) data. The available CDB was properly curated, and the pesticides were represented by conformation-independent molecular descriptors. In an attempt to improve the model predictions, the best four MLR models obtained were subjected to a consensus analysis. The optimal model was evaluated by means of the coefficient of determination and the residual standard deviation in calibration, validation, and prediction, along other internal and external validation criteria to accomplish the guidelines defined by the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development. Finally, the in silico model was applied to predict the tR of an external set of 57 pesticides.The grapevine red blotch disease (GRBD) was first noticed in 2008, impacting grape ripening. In general, GRBD reduces grape and wine quality resulting in significant economic losses. The purpose of the present study was to evaluate the effect of GRBD on agronomical parameters of 'Cabernet Sauvignon' vines at harvest. Using a metabolomics approach, the influence on primary and secondary metabolite profiling in skin + pulp/flesh and seeds were also determined. GRBD influenced °Brix and berry weight, as well as primary and secondary metabolites in both tissues. 1D 1H NMR was effective in quantifying the main primary and secondary metabolites affected by GRBD. RP-HPLC was similarly able to quantify the main phenolics affected. Multivariate analysis showed the influence of the virus on grape metabolites using both tools in two berry tissues. The effectiveness of both tools to describe sample variability was compared and the most affected metabolites in each tissue could be identified.Lonicerae Japonicae Flos (LJF) has historically been widely utilized as a tea and health food. To better understand and evaluate its quality evaluate its quality, a near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) method was developed for the rapid and simultaneous analysis of the 3 main active components (chlorogenic acid, isochlorogenic acid A and isochlorogenic acid C). The NIRS model was built using 2 different strategies partial least squares (PLS) as a linear regression method and artificial neural networks (ANN) as a nonlinear regression method. Furthermore, the NIRS method was applied to analyze the 4 main quality factors, which included 5 processing methods (shade drying, sun drying, vacuum drying, freeze drying and hot-air drying), 2 kinds of harvest time (flower bud stage and florescence stage), 2 species and 8 geographical origins. Collectively, NIRS is a promising method for the quality analysis of LJF.
Skin and soft tissue infections (SSTIs) are a common complaint in the ambulatory setting and pose a significant burden on the health care system.

We sought to determine the accuracy of ultrasound for detecting soft tissue abscesses by emergency medicine associate providers (APs).

This was a prospective observational study of adult patients with suspected SSTI in the emergency department of a rural tertiary care academic medical center. The AP performed and interpreted point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) of the suspected infected area. Ultrasound images and interpretation were reviewed by the attending emergency physician with either rejection or agreement of the image interpretation, diagnosis, and management. If incision and drainage was performed, presence or absence of purulent drainage was recorded.

Sixty-four patients with suspected SSTI were enrolled 29 had POCUS-proven abscesses and 33 had cellulitis; 2 were excluded. AP clinical evaluation alone for identifying abscess revealed sensitivity of 92.

The present study revealed the molecular events under triclocarban stress and clarified how triclocarban influence the metabolic networks.This study assesses the occurrence of microplastics (MPs) in coastal and sea surface sediments, as well as water samples, collected from the coastal region of the southern Caspian Sea, Mazandaran province, Iran. A total of 32 sediment and 10 water samples were studied. The mean concentration of MPs was 15 units kg-1 in the sediments and 710 units m-3 in the coastal water. Fibers constituted by far the dominant MPs in both media, accounting for 97% of the MPs in both sediment and water samples. The MPs were mainly black in color. The dominant size of MP particles in sediment samples was between 250 and 500 μm, while the fraction >1000 μm dominated in the water samples. Polyethylene terephthalate (PET), polystyrene (PS), and nylon (NYL) were the main polymers and/or copolymers composing MPs in both sediment and water samples. The MP particles had a relatively smooth surface morphology, although signs of weathering were observed. The number of MP particles in sediment and water samples showed a general decrease from west to east in the study area. This may be reflecting the spreading of MP loading from the outlets of Sefidrud, Tonekabon, Chalus, the major rivers entering the Caspian Sea just west of the study area, and the overall decrease in the spatial distribution of touristic and fishery activity. The main sources of MP particles could be local emissions from a large number of domestic wastewater effluents and urban surface runoff due to high population density, and industrial and fishing activities in this region. This study indicated that MP particles, based on their characteristics and chemical composition, are circulated between coastal waters, and shore and sea surface sediments of the Caspian Sea, leading to their uneven distribution in the different depths. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first work studying the distribution of MP particles in sea surface sediments and also the most comprehensive on MPs in shoreline sediments and coastal waters in the southern Caspian Sea.

This project was designed to prospectively evaluate the impact of resident identification of CC as a component of morbidity review on error identification and standard of care (SOC) assessments. The platform was assessed for its reliability as a measure of resident critical analysis of complication causality across postgraduate year (PGY).

A total of 1945 general surgery cases with complications were assessed for error identification and SOC management between January 1, 2016, and December 31, 2018. CC identification was additionally assessed between January 1, 2019, and December 31, 2019, and included 708 general surgery cases. Data were evaluated for error assessments and overall SOC management. PGY4 and 5 residents were compared for number of cases and complications reviewed, severity, error causation, and CC relevance.

Rice bran dietary fiber (ERBDF) subjected to pre-water-washing and complex enzyme treatment using heat-stable α-amylase, alcalase, and glucoamylase had significantly higher (p less then 0.05) proportions of cellulose, hemicellulose, lignin, and lower proportions of lipid, protein, and starch than rice bran dietary fiber subjected to complex enzyme treatment without pre-water-washing. Cellulase modification of ERBDF significantly decreased (p less then 0.05) cellulose, hemicellulose, starch, and protein contents while the relative lignin content increased. Cellulase modification significantly improved (p less then 0.05) water-holding capacity, oil-holding capacity, swelling capacity, cholesterol absorption capacity, and glucose adsorption capacity, while decreasing the emulsifying capacity and glucose dialysis retardation index. MAT possessed a more stable tertiary structure and exhibited slight changes in MPs aggregation and degradation. There was an insignificant difference (P > 0.05) in the immobilized water and free water between the MAT samples and FM, indicating a tighter interaction between water and muscle protein in MAT. Thus, MAT could retain the physicochemical and structural properties of MPs, which provided a combination of thawing treatments for application in meat industry.The present work describes the development of an in silico model to predict the retention time (tR) of a large Compound DataBase (CDB) of pesticides detected in fruits and vegetables. The model utilizes ultrahigh-performance liquid chromatography electrospray ionization quadrupole-Orbitrap (UHPLC/ESI Q-Orbitrap) mass spectrometry (MS) data. The available CDB was properly curated, and the pesticides were represented by conformation-independent molecular descriptors. In an attempt to improve the model predictions, the best four MLR models obtained were subjected to a consensus analysis. The optimal model was evaluated by means of the coefficient of determination and the residual standard deviation in calibration, validation, and prediction, along other internal and external validation criteria to accomplish the guidelines defined by the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development. Skin and soft tissue infections (SSTIs) are a common complaint in the ambulatory setting and pose a significant burden on the health care system.

We sought to determine the accuracy of ultrasound for detecting soft tissue abscesses by emergency medicine associate providers (APs).

This was a prospective observational study of adult patients with suspected SSTI in the emergency department of a rural tertiary care academic medical center. The AP performed and interpreted point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) of the suspected infected area. Ultrasound images and interpretation were reviewed by the attending emergency physician with either rejection or agreement of the image interpretation, diagnosis, and management. If incision and drainage was performed, presence or absence of purulent drainage was recorded.

Sixty-four patients with suspected SSTI were enrolled 29 had POCUS-proven abscesses and 33 had cellulitis; 2 were excluded. AP clinical evaluation alone for identifying abscess revealed sensitivity of 92.

Altogether, the results suggested a coordinate involvement of Maillard reaction, protein and lipid oxidation to milk browning and off-flavors formation in UHLM.The purpose of this paper was to investigate the effects of Cyclocarya paliurus polysaccharide (CP) on gut microbiota composition and predict metabolic function in healthy mice. Healthy Kunming mice were continuously gavaged with CP for 20 days, and mouse feces were collected for analysis. The results showed that CP could remarkably increase the short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs; acetic acid, propionic acid, butyric acid, and valeric acid) in the feces of healthy mice in a dose-dependent matter. 16S rRNA showed that 200 mg/kg body weight CP was effective in increasing diversity of the gut microbiota in healthy mice and affected the relative abundance of specific bacteria. Lachnospiraceae, Clostridiales, and Clostridia were identified as the phenotypic biomarkers of the CP-H group compared with the normal control group. In addition, PICRUSt2 showed that starch and sucrose metabolism, amino acid metabolism, glycerolipid metabolism, pantothenate and CoA biosynthesis, biosynthesis of unsaturated fatty acids, and C5-branched dibasic acid metabolism are the primary enriched phenotypic KEGG pathways in the CP-H group. These findings suggested that early CP intervention could enhance the metabolic function of gut microbiota by increasing the release of SCFAs and altering the composition of gut microbiota.The morphoanatomical characteristics of leaves were associated with altitude, hillside, and the cup quality of coffee produced in the Matas de Minas region. Although the small magnitude, there are correlations between cup quality with altitude and morpho-anatomical traits. Despite facing the differences of management inherent to 363 sampling sites, Northwestern hillside had significant lower cup quality, whereas only stomata density (SD) and thickness of the leaf epidermis in the adaxial face (AdET) showed significant differences between hillsides. Altitude, leaf mass per area (LMA) and SD, and to a lesser extent the thickness of the leaf epidermis in the abaxial face (AbET), were correlated (Spearman's correlation) with cup quality. Interestingly, AbET correlations were negative. Mantel's test significant correlations were found between coffee cup quality vs. altitude, LMA and petiole phloem area (PPhA). The spatial autocorrelation was significant only with LMA. Also, SD, to a lesser extent, was associated with cup quality. Despite the complexity of the association among the environment, plant growth and development, this is the first report to associate morpho-anatomical features of the leaf with the coffee cup traits. First, to ensure repeatability of the microscopy results, a classification of the fresh and stored beans (aged at 35 °C and 83% relative humidity) into different hardening levels (the Non-aged, Aged and Very-hard aged sample) was performed based on the texture values of cooked half-cotyledons. Cell wall strength of the cotyledons was evaluated, showing that the aged samples (HTC seeds) exhibit stronger cell walls with more/stronger pectic cross-linkages than the Non-aged sample. After a sequential pectin extraction aiming at removing pectin fractions of different solubility, cell wall autofluorescence and immunolabeling of JIM7, LM9 and 2F4 epitopes in the residual materials were examined. Upon ageing, the samples exhibited an increased Ca2+-pectin and ferulic acid-pectin crosslinking, these pectic complexes being accumulated primarily at the intercellular spaces.

Despite minimal acromial thinning observed at the first immediate postoperative state, the acromions showed significant thinning at the second postoperative MRI, with a mean reduction of 32%. Along with acromial thinning, an exaggerated concave contour of the acromial undersurface was observed in some patients. In the subacromial space, a loculated fluid collection developed in 91% of the patients at the second postoperative follow-up. No statistically significant association was noted between postoperative acromial thickness change and clinical or radiological factors (P value > 0.05).

Moreover, this characterization also gives a parameter threshold above which the epidemic disease eventually tends to extinction, and below which the epidemic outbreak happens.Fibroepithelioma of Pinkus (FEP) is a subtype of basal cell carcinoma (BCC) that can clinically resemble intradermal nevi (IDN) and fibromas. We performed a retrospective review of consecutively biopsied lesions confirmed to be FEP on histopathology diagnosed from January 1, 2008 to April 8, 2019. Clinical (n = 48), contact non-polarized dermoscopy (NPD) (n = 44), and contact polarized dermoscopy (PD) (n = 22) images from 36 patients were reviewed. Mean age was 64.5 years (SD 15.1 years, range 24-86 years) at diagnosis of first FEP lesion. Most lesions were located on the torso (n = 28, 58.3%), followed by the lower extremity (n = 9, 18.8%). The most common differential diagnoses at the time of biopsy included BCC (n = 40) and nevus (other than IDN, n = 5). Clinically, FEP were pink (95.8%), scaly (66.7%) papules (77.1%) displaying disrupted skin markings (62.5%) and absence of hair follicles (87.5%). NPD revealed serpentine (97.7%), dotted (81.8%), or polymorphous vessels (86.4%), and hypopigmented to pink lines intersecting at acute angles (HPLA) (52.3%). PD demonstrated serpentine (95.5%), dotted (86.4%), or polymorphous vessels (81.8%), shiny white lines (50.0%), and HPLA (59.1%). This is a blinded randomized clinical trial with 42 women with facial melasma (skin phototype I-IV), randomized into Group A (microneedling and 5% retinoic acid) or Group B (5% retinoic acid alone). Four procedures were applied with 15 days intervals (4 blood collections). Clinical improvement was assessed using the Melasma Area Severity Index (MASI). Serum oxidative stress levels were evaluated by protein oxidation (carbonyl), lipid peroxidation (TBARS) and sulfhydryl groups, as well as enzyme activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase (CAT). The statistical analyzes were performed by generalized estimation equation (GEE). There was a reduction in MASI scale and TBARS levels in both groups over time (p  less then  0.05), with no difference between groups (p = 0.416). There was also a substantial increase in the carbonyl levels at 30 days (p = 0.002). The SOD activity decreased after 30 days, regardless of group (p  less then  0.001), which was maintained after 60 days. In Group A, there was a reduction in sulfhydryl levels at 60 days (p  less then  0.001). It is important to highlight that both groups demonstrated efficacy in the clinical improvement of melasma within at least 60 days, reducing the MASI score by almost 50%. However, microneedling with retinoic acid seems to be the worst treatment because there is a reduction in the non-enzymatic antioxidant defense, which is important to protect against oxidative stress.
