Peer networks at school and students' position in these networks can influence their academic well-being. We study here individual students' network position (isolation, popularity, social activity) and peer network structures at the school level (centralization, density, clustering, school connectedness) and their relations to students' academic well-being (school burnout, SB; schoolwork engagement, SE). Classroom surveys for 14-16-year-olds (N = 11,015) were conducted in six European cities (SILNE survey). Students were asked to nominate up to five schoolmates with whom they preferred to do schoolwork. SB and SE correlated negatively (-0.32; p less then 0.0001). Students had on average 3.4 incoming (popularity; range 0-5) and 3.4 outgoing (social activity; 0-5) social ties. Percentage of isolated students was 1.4. Students' network position was associated weakly with academic well-being-popular students had less SB and higher SE, and socially active students had higher SE. School-level peer networks showed high clustering and school connectedness, but low density and low centralization. Clustering was associated with higher SB. Low centralization and high school connectedness protected from SB. Dense networks supported SE as did high average school connectedness. Correlations between these network indicators and academic well-being were, however, low. All the PAP salts were analyzed using single-crystal X-ray diffraction, powder X-ray diffraction, infrared spectroscopy, differential scanning calorimetry, and thermogravimetric analysis. The presence of minute amounts of PAP in paracetamol solids gives a dark color to the product that was difficult to remove through crystallization. In our study, we found that the addition of small quantities of the aforementioned acids helps to remove PAP from PA during the filtration and washings. This shows that salt formation could be used to efficiently remove challenging impurities.Background As part of the efforts to find natural alternatives for cancer treatment and to overcome the barriers of cellular resistance to chemotherapeutic agents, polymeric nanocapsules containing curcumin and/or methotrexate were prepared by an interfacial deposition of preformed polymer method. Methods Physicochemical properties, drug release experiments and in vitro cytotoxicity of these nanocapsules were performed against the Calu-3 lung cancer cell line. Results The colloidal suspensions of nanocapsules showed suitable size (287 to 325 nm), negative charge (-33 to -41 mV) and high encapsulation efficiency (82.4 to 99.4%). Spherical particles at nanoscale dimensions were observed by scanning electron microscopy. X-ray diffraction analysis indicated that nanocapsules exhibited a non-crystalline pattern with a remarkable decrease of crystalline peaks of the raw materials. Fourier-transform infrared spectra demonstrated no chemical bond between the drug(s) and polymers. Drug release experiments evidenced a controlled release pattern with no burst effect for nanocapsules containing curcumin and/or methotrexate. The nanoformulation containing curcumin and methotrexate (NCUR/MTX-2) statistically decreased the cell viability of Calu-3. The fluorescence and morphological analyses presented a predominance of early apoptosis and late apoptosis as the main death mechanisms for Calu-3. Conclusions Curcumin and methotrexate co-loaded nanocapsules can be further used as a novel therapeutic strategy for treating non-small-cell lung cancer.This work highlights new results on the synthesis of the TiAl3 intermetallic phase using self-propagating high-temperature synthesis. This method is considered a promising sintering route for intermetallic compounds. It was found that the reactions proceed in two stages. Below the melting point of aluminum, the Ti2Al5 phase forms at 450 °C after long annealing times by a direct solid-state reaction between the aluminum and titanium, and is converted consequently to TiAl3. This is a completely new finding; until now, many authors have believed in the preferential formation of the TiAl3 phase. The second stage, the self-propagating strongly exothermic reaction, proceeds above the melting point of aluminum. It leads to the formation of the TiAl3 phase accompanied by Ti2Al5 and Ti3Al phases. The reaction mechanism was shown in the form of chemical equations, which were supported by calculating Gibbs energy. Reaction temperatures (Tonset, Tmaximum, and Toffset) were determined after induction heating thanks to recording by an optical pyrometer. This finding provides completely new opportunities for the determination of activation energy at heating rates, in which common calorimeters are not able to detect a response or even measure. Peer networks at school and students' position in these networks can influence their academic well-being. We study here individual students' network position (isolation, popularity, social activity) and peer network structures at the school level (centralization, density, clustering, school connectedness) and their relations to students' academic well-being (school burnout, SB; schoolwork engagement, SE). Classroom surveys for 14-16-year-olds (N = 11,015) were conducted in six European cities (SILNE survey). Students were asked to nominate up to five schoolmates with whom they preferred to do schoolwork. SB and SE correlated negatively (-0.32; p less then 0.0001). Students had on average 3.4 incoming (popularity; range 0-5) and 3.4 outgoing (social activity; 0-5) social ties. Percentage of isolated students was 1.4. Students' network position was associated weakly with academic well-being-popular students had less SB and higher SE, and socially active students had higher SE. School-level peer networks showed high clustering and school connectedness, but low density and low centralization. Clustering was associated with higher SB. Low centralization and high school connectedness protected from SB. Dense networks supported SE as did high average school connectedness. Molecular weight and chain-length distribution analysis showed a decrease of molecular weight (from 1.1 × 106 to 1.1 × 105 g/mol) without an obvious change of chain-length distribution in PS1, while PS2-4 exhibited an increased proportion of DP 6-12 with a stable molecular weight distribution, indicating a distinct model of structural modification by AqGBE. The enhancement of peak viscosity was related to increased hydrophobic interactions and pieces state of PS1, while the contents of SDS and RS in PS1 increased by 37.7 and 49.4%, respectively. Our result provides an alternative way to increase the RS content of potato starch by branching modification.In this study, carboxymethyl cassava starch (CMCS)-functionalized magnetic nanoparticles (CMCS@Fe3O4) were synthesized via a simple one-pot co-precipitation method using CMCS materials with varying degrees of substitution, and used for the adsorption/removal of doxorubicin hydrochloride (Dox; a clinically available anti-cancer drug) from aqueous solution. The adsorption of Dox was studied using experimental conditions with varied pH, temperature, initial Dox concentration, and CMCS@Fe3O4 dosage. The CMCS@Fe3O4 adsorbents were characterized by scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, thermogravimetric analysis, and vibrating sample magnetometry. Each CMCS@Fe3O4 adsorbent exhibited a cubic inverse spinel iron oxide phase, small particle size, favorable magnetic properties, and good thermal stability. Batch adsorption experiments showed that the Dox adsorption efficiency reached 85.46% at a CMCS@Fe3O4 concentration of 20 mg mL-1 at 303 K in pH 7.0. The adsorption experimental results indicated that the adsorption kinetics followed a pseudo-second-order model and the Langmuir equation. Considering the environmentally nontoxic nature of Fe3O4 and starch, the CMCS@Fe3O4 material demonstrated significant potential for removing Dox from aqueous solution and in magnetic targeted drug delivery systems for synergistic tumor treatments.Water chestnut (Trapa bispniosa), rice and corn starch were modified with sodium alginate and subjected to dry heating for 0,2 and 4 h for at 130 °C. The physicochemical, thermal and morphological properties of native as well as modified starches were determined. Thermal and morphological properties were studied using Differential Scanning Calorimeter (DSC) and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). It was observed that the dry heating of starches with and without sodium alginate significantly reduce the swelling power, solubility, paste clarity whereas, water absorption and syneresis increased. The swelling power was higher for corn starch as compared to other starches while rice starch has higher syneresis. In the presence of sodium alginate the water absorption was increased in all starch samples upon heating. The onset temperature was found to be increased after dry heating of all starches. The maximum increased was noticed for rice starch. Morphological studies showed the damaging of granule surface with the accumulation of leached amylose and gum but total degradation was not observed. Peak viscosity, final viscosity, breakdown, and setback of RS- sodium alginate mixture were reduced on dry heating. Although pasting temperature of rice starch was not significantly changed.Biofilm composition from fish myofibrillar protein (FMP) and chitosan solution (CS) incorporated with rosemary extract (RE) was developed and applied to monitor the freshness of fish fillets. The effects of different concentrations of RE as well as physical, mechanical, structural and functional properties of FMP/CS films were investigated. Films containing RE showed reduced water solubility and water vapor permeability and enhanced tensile strength and elongation at break. Results also showed good compatibility of the components and good dispersion of RE in the matrix. However, the content of RE (0.2%, v/v) added in the composite films produced aggregations and had negative effects on their film-forming properties. The antioxidant capacity of composite films was related to the level of RE and demonstrated by the DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl) free radical scavenging assay. Chilled grass carp fillets wrapped with different films to evaluate the preservative effect. Results of thiobarbituric acid reactive substances, pH value, Free amino acid and total volatile basic nitrogen indicated that FMP/CS/RE composite film could protect the fish fillet well and inhibit the lipid oxidation. In this study, we report hyaluronic acid and Pullulan-based injectable hydrogel loaded with curcumin that could potentiate reepithelization, increase angiogenesis, and collagen deposition at wound microenvironment to endorse healing cascade compared to other treatment groups. The physical interaction and self-assembly of hyaluronic acid-Pullulan-grafted-pluronic F127 injectable hydrogel were confirmed using nuclear magnetic resonance (1H NMR) and Fourier transformed infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), and cytocompatibility was confirmed by fibroblast viability assay. The CUR-laden hyaluronic acid-Pullulan-g-F127 injectable hydrogel promptly undergoes a sol-gel transition and has proved to potentiate wound healing in a streptozotocin-induced diabetic rat model by promoting 93% of wound closure compared to other groups having 35%, 38%, and 62%. The comparative in vivo study and histological examination was conducted which demonstrated an expeditious recovery rate by significantly reducing the wound healing days i.e. 35 days in a control group, 33 days in the CUR suspension group, 21 days in unloaded injectable, and 13 days was observed in CUR loaded hydrogel group. Furthermore, we suggest that the injectable hydrogel laden with CUR showed a prompt wound healing potential by increasing the cell proliferation and serves as a drug delivery platform for sustained and targeted delivery of hydrophobic moieties.Chemical liver injury threatens seriously human health, along with the shortage of efficiency and low-toxicity drugs. Herein, the novel oral nanocomplexes composed of deoxycholic acid-grafted chitosan and oleanolic acid were constructed to reverse the CCl4-induced acute liver damage in mice. Results indicated core-shell nanocomplexes, maintained by the hydrophobic interaction between deoxycholic acid and oleanolic acid, could be dissociated in the intestine. Notably, the nanocomplexes possessed superior hepatoprotective effect in vivo, possibly due to the synergistic effect between grafted chitosan and oleanolic acid. Mechanism investigations suggested that nanocomplexes reversed CCl4-induced liver injury through improving hepatic antioxidant capacity via NrF2/Keap1 pathway and regulating inflammation response via NF-κB signaling pathway. Intracellular pathogens such as M. tuberculosis have co-evolved to combat the nutritional immunity developed by the host. It has developed eminent mechanisms to sequester essential metal ions from the host system. One such prominent mechanism to scavenge metal ions to thrive in the host cell involves ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporters, which transport metal ions (in free and/or complex forms) across the cell membrane. This study employs a high-throughput data mining analysis to identify open reading frames (ORFs) encoding metal uptake ABC transporters in M. tuberculosis H37Rv. In total, 19 ORFs resulting in seven ABC transport systems and two P-type ATPases were identified, which are potentially involved in the uptake of different metal ions. The results also suggest the existence of a subunit sharing mechanism in M. tuberculosis where the transmembrane and nucleotide binding domains are shared among different ABC transport systems indicating the import of multiple substrates via a single ABC transporter. Sudan was one of the first African countries to recognize the importance of radiation oncology in multidisciplinary cancer care and began investing in it in the 1960s. Today, there are 4 comprehensive cancer centers in the country, which offer radiation therapy and employ 10 radiation therapy machines for a population of about 45 million people. This proportion is an indication that Sudan still has an underfunded health care system with a lack of infrastructure and human resources. The present manuscript intends to provide a well-rounded overview of radiation oncology in Sudan today.
Data are scarce from low-income and middle-income countries (LMICs) to support the choice of vaccination schedule for the introduction of pneumococcal conjugate vaccines (PCV). We aimed to compare the immunogenicity of four different infant PCV10 schedules in infants in Vietnam.

In this single-blind, parallel-group, open-label, randomised controlled trial, infants aged 2 months were recruited by community health staff in districts 4 and 7 of Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Eligible infants had no clinically significant maternal or prenatal history and were born at or after 36 weeks' gestation. Participants were randomly assigned (335454) using block randomisation, stratified by district, to one of six PCV10 or PCV13 vaccination schedules. Here we report results for four groups group A, who were given PCV10 at ages 2, 3, 4, and 9 months (a 3 + 1 schedule); group B, who were vaccinated at ages 2, 3, and 4 months (3 + 0 schedule); group C, who were vaccinated at ages 2, 4, and 9·5 months (2 + 1 schedule); and group D, who were vaccinated at ages 2 and 6 months (two-dose schedule).

ACPs were developed for the elements H, B, C, N, O, F, Si, P, S, and Cl. The ACP parameters were determined using an extensive training set of 118655 data points, mostly of complete basis set coupled-cluster level quality. The target molecular properties for the ACP-corrected methods include noncovalent interaction energies, molecular conformational energies, reaction energies, barrier heights, and bond separation energies. The ACPs were tested first on the training set and then on a validation set of 42567 additional data points. We show that the ACP-corrected methods can predict the target molecular properties with accuracy close to complete basis set wavefunction theory methods, but at a computational cost of double-ζ DFT methods. This makes the new BLYP/6-31G*-ACP, M06-2X/6-31G*-ACP, and CAM-B3LYP/6-31G*-ACP methods uniquely suited to the calculation of noncovalent, thermochemical, and kinetic properties in large molecular systems.A set of three Cr-dimer compounds, Cr2Q2(en)4X2 (Q S, Se; X Br, Cl; en ethylenediamine), with monoatomic chalcogenide bridges have been synthesized via a single-step solvothermal route. Chalcogenide linkers mediate magnetic exchange between Cr3+ centers, while bidentate ethylenediamine ligands complete the distorted octahedral coordination of Cr centers. Unlike the compounds previously reported, none of the chalcogenide atoms are connected to extra ligands. Magnetic susceptibility studies indicate antiferromagnetic coupling between Cr3+ centers, which are moderate in Cr2Se2(en)4X2 and stronger in Cr2S2(en)4Cl2. Fitting the magnetic data requires a biquadratic exchange term. High-frequency EPR spectra showing characteristic signals due to coupled S = 1 spin states could be interpreted in terms of the "giant spin" Hamiltonian. A fourth compound, Cr2Se8(en)4, has a single diatomic Se bridge connecting the two Cr3+ centers and shows weak ferromagnetic exchange interactions. This work demonstrates the tunability in strength and type of exchange interactions between metal centers by manipulating the interatomic distances and number of bridging chalcogenide linkers.Poly(l-alanine-co-l-lysine)-graft-trehalose (PAKT) was synthesized as a natural antifreezing glycopolypeptide (AFGP)-mimicking cryoprotectant for cryopreservation of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs). FTIR and circular dichroism spectra indicated that the content of the α-helical structure of PAK decreased after conjugation with trehalose. Two protocols were investigated in cryopreservation of MSCs to prove the significance of the intracellularly delivered PAKT. In protocol I, MSCs were cryopreserved at -196 °C for 7 days by a slow-cooling procedure in the presence of both PAKT and free trehalose. In protocol II, MSCs were preincubated at 37 °C in a PAKT solution, followed by cryopreservation at -196 °C in the presence of free trehalose for 7 days by the slow-cooling procedure. Polymer and trehalose concentrations were varied by 0.0-1.0 and 0.0-15.0 wt %, respectively. Cell recovery was significantly improved by protocol II with preincubation of the cells in the PAKT solution. The recovered cells from protocol II exhibited excellent proliferation and maintained multilineage potentials into osteogenic, chondrogenic, and adipogenic differentiation, similar to MSCs recovered from cryopreservation in the traditional 10% dimethyl sulfoxide system. Ice recrystallization inhibition (IRI) activity of the polymers/trehalose contributed to cell recovery; however, intracellularly delivered PEG-PAKT was the major contributor to the enhanced cell recovery in protocol II. Inhibitor studies suggested that macropinocytosis and caveolin-dependent endocytosis are the main mechanisms for the intracellular delivery of PEG-PAKT. 1H NMR and FTIR spectra suggested that the intracellular PEG-PAKTs interact with water and stabilize the cells during cryopreservation.Climate change will stress urban sanitation systems. Although urban sanitation uses various infrastructure types and service systems, current research appears skewed toward a small subset of cases. We conducted a systematic literature review to critically appraise the evidence for climate change impacts on all urban sanitation system types. We included road-based transport networks, an essential part of fecal sludge management systems. We combined the evidence on climate change impacts with the existing knowledge about modes of urban sanitation failures. We found a predominance of studies that assess climate impacts on centralized sewerage in high-income contexts. The implications of climate change for urban nonsewered and complex, fragmented, and (partially) decentralized sanitation systems remain under-researched. In addition, the understanding of the impacts of climate change on urban sanitation systems fails to take a comprehensive citywide perspective considering interdependencies with other sectors and combinations of climate effects. We conclude that the evidence for climate change impacts on urban sanitation systems is weak. To date, research neither adequately represents the variety of urban sanitation infrastructure and service systems nor reflects the operational and management challenges of already stressed systems.Bacterial DnaK is an ATP-dependent molecular chaperone important for maintaining cellular proteostasis in concert with cofactor proteins. The cofactor DnaJ delivers non-native client proteins to DnaK and activates its ATPase activity, which is required for protein folding. In the bacterial pathogen Mycobacterium tuberculosis, DnaK is assisted by two DnaJs, DnaJ1 and DnaJ2. Functional protein-protein interactions (PPIs) between DnaK and at least one DnaJ are essential for survival of mycobacteria; hence, these PPIs represent untapped antibacterial targets. Here, we synthesize peptide-based mimetics of DnaJ1 and DnaJ2 N-terminal domains as rational inhibitors of DnaK-cofactor interactions. We find that covalently stabilized DnaJ mimetics are capable of disrupting DnaK-cofactor activity in vitro and prevent mycobacterial recovery from proteotoxic stress in vivo, leading to cell death. Since chaperones and cofactors are highly conserved, we anticipate these results will inform the design of other mimetics to modulate chaperone function across cell types.CRISPR-based gene editing is a powerful tool with great potential for applications in the treatment of many inherited and acquired diseases. The coelution of intact proteins results in overlapped mass spectra, and hence, an increased peak capacity for protein separation is needed. Herein, ethane-bridged hybrid monoliths with well-defined large mesopores were successfully prepared based on the sol-gel condensation of 1,2-bis(trimethoxysilyl)ethane and tetramethoxysilane, followed by two-step base etching of the Si-O-Si domain while maintaining the Si-C-C-Si domain in the structure. Relatively homogeneous macropores of 1.1 μm and large mesopores of 24 nm were obtained, permitting fast mass transfer of large molecules and efficient diffusion without obstruction. The use of less hydrophobic C1 ligand further sharpened the peak shape and improved peak capacity. A 120 cm-long capillary column was used for top-down proteomic analysis of E. coli lysates under low backpressure with 16 MPa. High peak capacity of 646 was achieved within 240 min gradient. With MS/MS analysis, 959 proteoforms corresponding to 263 proteins could be unambiguously identified from E. coli lysates in a single run. Furthermore, to illustrate the separation performance for large proteoforms, such monoliths were applied to top-down analysis of the SEC fraction of E. coli lysates with Mw ranging from 30 to 70 kDa. With highly effective separation, 347 large proteoforms with Mw higher than 30 kDa were detected in the single 75 min run. These results showed great potential for top-down proteomic analysis in complex samples.Biomaterial-associated infection is difficult to detect and brings consequences that can lead to morbidity and mortality. Bacteria can adhere to the implant surface, grow, and form biofilms. Antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) can target and kill bacterial cells using a plethora of mechanisms of action such as rupturing the cell membrane by creating pores via depolarization with their cationic and amphipathic nature. AMPs can thus be coated onto metal implants to prevent microbial cell adhesion and growth. The aim of this systematic review was to determine the potential clinical applications of AMP-modified implants through in vivo induced infection models. Following a database search recently up to 22 January 2022 using PubMed, Web of Science and Cochrane databases, and abstract/title screening using the PRISMA framework, 24 studies remained, of which 18 were used in the random effects meta-analysis of standardized mean differences (SMD) to get effect sizes. Quality of studies was assessed using SYRCLE's risk of bd to progress toward potential clinical application.Preprocessing of liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) raw data facilitates downstream statistical and biological data analyses. In the case of targeted LC-MS data, consistent recognition of chromatographic peaks is a main challenge, in particular, for low abundant signals. Fully automatic preprocessing is faster than manual peak review and does not depend on the individual operator. Here, we present the R package automRm for fully automatic preprocessing of LC-MS data recorded in MRM mode. Using machine learning (ML) for detection of chromatographic peaks and quality control of reported results enables the automatic recognition of complex patterns in raw data. In addition, this approach renders automRm generally applicable to a wide range of analytical methods including hydrophilic interaction liquid chromatography (HILIC), which is known for sample-to-sample variations in peak shape and retention time. We demonstrate the impact of the choice of training data set, of the applied ML algorithm, and of individual peak characteristics on automRm's ability to correctly report chromatographic peaks. Next, we show that automRm can replicate results obtained by manual peak review on published data. Moreover, automRm outperforms alternative software solutions regarding the variation in peak integration among replicate measurements and the number of correctly reported peaks when applied to a HILIC-MS data set.
